    Reports that fuel additive Castrol Valvemaster is no longer available have been quashed. Castrol Classic Oils says the product is still available - and still on sale. The news comes after several Honest John Classics readers got in touch to express concerns that they could no longer find their preferred fuel additive.
  • American Honda Civic Hybrid owner wins fuel economy court case 3 Feb 2012 (News)
    "Thus, a Honda advertisement that accurately referenced EPA mileage estimates, truthfully stated that a driver can get 'up to 50 mpg' and carefully noted that mileage will vary is not misleading as a matter of law,"  This is only a small claims court judgement and may not stand up on appeal, but it is indicative of a growing sense of unease among owners that real life fuel consumption figures bear no relation to the official ones. Our Real Life Fuel Economy Register   shown that many owners don't even come close to matching the official figures in 'real world' conditions.  Honda Civic Hybrid is 48.4mpg in the register, compared to the official figure of 61.4mpg.  Changes to the way that official fuel consumption tests are conducted are coming.

A new Consumption Monitor displays fuel consumption and energy recovery levels at one and five-minute intervals, so drivers have instant feedback on the fuel efficiency of their driving style.
  • Fuel prices tumble again as petrol nears £1 a litre 12 Jan 2015 (News)
    The cost of fuel has fallen again, with Asda, Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsbury’s announcing 2p off the price of petrol and diesel. As a result,   motorists   filling up at Asda will now pay 103p for a litre of petrol and 110p for a litre of diesel.
  • Supermarkets cut fuel prices as the cost of oil plummets 28 Nov 2014 (News)
    Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons have announced similar reductions, with all three supermarkets reducing fuel prices by up to 2p a litre.  World oil prices have slumped in recent months, with the cost of Brent crude hitting its lowest value in four years.  However, RAC fuel expert Simon Williams believes there could be more good news in store for motorists, as retailers react to the lower wholesale cost of fuel.

    Despite that, new registrations were above forecast by 5,000 units, and the SMMT’s forecast for 2011 remains on track. The average fuel economy for cars registered in November was 52.3mpg. With the UK’s fuel prices higher than elsewhere in Europe, it makes sense that UK buyers are choosing more efficient cars. Indeed, fuel efficiency has been an important goal for car manufacturers over the past decade.
  • Sainsbury's offers 10x the amount of Nectar points on fuel during October 29 Sep 2015 (News)
    During October Sainsbury's is offering 10x the amount of Nectar points for every litre of fuel - the equivilent of a 5p per litre saving. The offer can be claimed by simply your Nectar card and follows a price cut by Sainsbury's of 2p per litre last week.  It lasts for the entire month of October and there is no limit to how many times you can fill up.
  • Motorists stand to save £10 a month as the cost of fuel plummets 17 Dec 2014 (News)
    Should the cost of diesel fall in line with the cost of petrol – to 103 pence-per-litre - owners would save £202 per year compared to July prices. Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Asda have announced continual fuel price reductions over the course of December, which look set to continue into the New Year.

    Renault is giving away a free digital tyre pressure monitor - worth £15 - when owners buy two Michelin fuel-efficient tyres from their Renault dealer in May and June. The correct pressure can be found in your car's handbook or maintenance booklet. Ensuring tyres are inflated to the correct pressure can have a positive impact on safety, fuel economy, CO2 and tyre life.
  • Ford announces 'most fuel-efficient car yet' 1 Dec 2009 (News)
    In addition to these technologies, a new software application called Eco Mode has been introduced to the new range. This has been designed to promote real-world fuel economy by changing driver habits and teaching motorists how to roll at the most fuel-efficient speed and calculate their percentage of cold-engine short trips.   • Fuel costs 'should be kept constant' 27 Jul 2009 (News)
    The Association of British Drivers has suggested the government should adopt a flexible approach to fuel duty. It explained that when the price of oil is high, the country's leaders could keep the cost of petrol and diesel relatively constant by reducing its statutory charges. The group stated this kind of sliding fuel tax would provide the UK economy with a boost.

    Now a new generation of truck builds on the capabilities of Toyota’s original Project Portal proof-of-concept machines that have pioneered the use of hydrogen fuel cell technology for cleaner transportation of cargo. The new truck provides better packaging and an estimated driving range of more than 300 miles on a tank of fuel – double that of typical drayage trucks on the average daily duty cycle.
  • Peugeot launches new car purchase scheme 30 Jun 2010 (News)
    Peugeot has launched a unique new ownership scheme called Just Add Fuel - a programme that covers all the major motoring costs in one single monthly payment. It means that driver's only have to worry about paying for fuel and also gives them the opportunity to drive a new car every three years.
  • Peugeot 308 Manages Nearly 90mpg 5 Mar 2010 (News)
    Coinciding with the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the Peugeot ECO CUP was designed to see if four different standard Peugeot HDi diesel models in the hands of everyday drivers could deliver fuel economy to match or beat the official government fuel economy figures. The result? They were not so much matched as shattered. The best return was a fraction shy of 90mpg and, what is more, this wasn’t in a tiny city car, hybrid or specially adapted vehicle.
