What's my car worth? 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
If I can buy it cheaper from the lease company than I could sel it for, I might go for it. It's a BMW 320d ES Touring 2004 '04' plate. It will have 120k on the clock when it should go back and a years MOT. All tyres are fairly new, full BMW service history, no dents or scratches, interior in good condition. -

Will platform sharing die soon ? 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
They have interviewed Takeo Fukui - CEO of a well known car company and his views are that independence suits car companies best and I suppose that when you consider who are the most successful car companies at the moment (financially) they are all indpendent - BMW, Toyota & Honda. Any history these had with mergers etc ended in disaster for them (particularly Honda and BMW with Rover). He states that too much is made of platform sharing and common componenets and it does not necessarily make cars cheaper, it makes for compromises. -
"import" car. 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
The price seems average, considering its a nice colour and decent interior. The only giveaway is that BMW uk dont recognise the car (they have to check their international system which shows all the options on the car) and the pdi was done by some germans. I have never come accross this before, is it worth going for? -
Danger of long service intervals 5 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Took a 2 year old BMW 318i Compact for a test drive from Croydon BMW - lovely car only 16,600 miles auto.leather.sunroof etc. but on start up it rattled like a diesl for 2 mins and the oil warning light came on. Checked the oil level under pretence of looking at the engine and it was well below minimum and not very clean. -

Coincidence?? 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Saxo was stopped on a slip road, bad damage to offside front and front wheel/suspension hanging off. 4. Saxo and BMW stopped by side of dual carriageway, Saxo behind BMW which had front badly damaged, didn't see what had happened to Saxo. The first two seemed to be driven by youngsters (ie under 25) other two had middle aged people standing by them so it's not all down to "baseball capped youths"! -
Audi A4 Reliability? 28 Sep 2003 (Forum)
A colleague at work has had to have extensive work to the electronics/engine management system of his BMW 320D at less than a year old. Are the enormous volumes that BMW/Audi now sell at affecting build quality? I must say, if I was changing my Co car now I would go for another Accord. -
Non-functioning alarm remote control 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
This will be my wife's key, and not used so often, but I don't want to run that risk. I've seen reference here in The Back Room to companies who will, for example, reset BMW dashboard computers for a fraction of BMW's quoted price. Does anyone know if it is possible to fix this remote control in a similar way? Martyn [Back Room moderator] ==================== mailto:webmaster@honestjohn.co.uk -

Washer bottle algae 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
As you may have seen in technical, a problem with my washers turned out to be green jellified algae at the washer pump. I was 'comforted' by the news that BMWs suffer the same problem........ Any ideas for the reasons it appears and how you stop it forming? -
So FWDs are not that bad? 7 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I think after this hard core winter, even the purists will agree that FWD cars are not that bad after all? So many people with complaints against BMW, Merc + other RWDs. And the tree huggers will also realize that we need 4x4s sometimes. :) -

Audi - conspicuously absent from auction 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I was trawling through the catalogues of upcoming auctions. There are plenty of upmarket BMWs, Mercedes, Porsches etc. But Audis are conspicuously absent. Does Audi have a closed disposal channel ? Is there some other explanation for this ? Or is it just a fluke ? Thanks
