New wheels for a gigging musician? 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
All this seems to me to point to one of the sales rep type of cars you see lots of, and probably one of the ones which is considered uncool, so that it's a bit cheaper. Then, if she finds a type of car that suits, how to finance it? Is leasing a viable option for a self-employed individual, or is it better to try to buy it on a finance deal? There seem to dozens of difft types of financing available, but it needs to be one which doesnt need a big deposit. -
Looking for a new car suitable for 3 kids 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I currently drive a 2015 Renault Clio which I bought used in 2017, and it was fine for when we were a family of 4 (2 kids), but now we have a 3rd on the way and the Clio is way too cramped I’m going to admit I know very little about cars, so all I can say really is that I’d like a nice spacious 5 seater car for about 10k (used, on finance). The C4 Cactus has caught my eye, especially with the panoramic roof. Any recommendations? :) -
PCP Mis-Selling... 15 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Undoubtedly some PCP will have been mis-sold, like just about everything at some point but the risk to the industry and economy is noteable as the cost of claims will be passed on to future customers so finance rates across all products will rise. Having said that if anyone has any questions I'll try to help, with clear impartial advice, as always. -
Honda Jazz SE - Insuring a car bought with PCP 26 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I have asked around and I am getting various opinions regarding this but surely with the amount of cars financed via PCP deals these days then it should be quite clear. It would be great if I could get some clarification for this as I want to avoid any issues in the unlikely event of a claim. Thanks -
Selling - The car 14 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Went to a local dealer who i know, and discussed cars with him, he said "lets have look at yours" on the valuation on his computer, everything came up rosy, except for the HPI check. Outstanding finance on the vehicle from 5 months before I bought it! Boy, did my face go red! Anyway a quick call to HPI and 5 minutes later they called me back to say sorted. See.... even little old me got caught out! -
Mazda 6 - Demonstrator, What discount to expect? 13 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Several brokers have them at under £17000 brand new. Drive the deal has it at £16600, including £1000 discount for using Mazda finance. What should I offer? What can I realistically expect to get it for? Any advice from more seasoned buyers gratefully received. -
Deposit paid - should car be taken off forecourt? 7 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hello all, My fiancee signed the forms for an '08' plate Grande Punto 1.2 Active on Sunday and dropped in a £500 deposit for the car yesterday (the rest is on finance). Yet today, the car is still on the forecourt for the great unwashed (note - tongue in cheek!) to prod, poke and generally crawl all over. To be fair, though, this particular dealer only leaves the boots open and keeps the main car locked until someone asks to see inside. -
FIAT - 0% deals 19 May 2008 (Forum)
I am going through the early stages of buying my next car and am looking at how best to finance it. My take on 0% deals is that they only tend to be on selected models i.e. low sellers, base models etc and this deal will be on the full RRP of the car, i.e. no discount for 0%.Am I correct. I am looking at a Fiat Bravo 1.6 Multijet Dynamic which is close to the top end of the range but has some serious discounting on the web. -
Manpower Shortage 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
This Government is quite willing to pay over £3,000,000 per day for the occupation of Iraq, yet will not finance a much needed resource in thei Country. How much longer can we tolerate this? We rarely see traffic cops on our motorways, and we hardly ever see a policeman in our village. -
Buying Mini Cooper, where ? 28 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Is it worth looking further afield for better discounts or do I just have to grin and bear it. I will not be using BMW / Mini finance as cash is available. Many thanks in advance for your replies. -
GAP insurance - worth it? 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
and the salesman is pushing GAP insurance. I won't bore you with the details but the car is effectively not financed and Tesco will replace the car like-for-like if written off within 12 months. So, is the £300ish for GAP insurance to cover the difference between Tesco's payout and the replacement value of a new car if written off within 3 years a good buy? -

Live within your means 19 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I've seen it as a salesman countless times myself with my advice swept to one side and a high mileage decade old BM or Merc taken on a 3yr finance agreement or personal loan by a customer who couldn't afford even one moderately expensive failure. A totally irrational purchase and one guaranteed to teach them a lesson at some point. I've seen loads of them (in non-running state) repossessed on the back of car transporters by finance companies who used one of our yards to store them before flogging them for scrap while the customer is left with a ruined credit profile. -
