  • Police Highways M-Way stop areas 9 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Would guess is not cheap, and from a safety point of view I can't see how reversing a vehicle onto these ramps is preferable to being able to drive straight in- and will someone trying doing a u turn to drive into one?
  • Golf 1.3 cl 1988 (engine electrical ?) 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Another symptom is especially noticeable at night when I have headlights on, the lights suddenly go really bright and the engine seems to hang back just a little for 2 or 3 seconds before the lights return to their normal brightness and the car drives as normal again. Today when driving I noticed that the engine held back just a little again, and this time I had no lights on. The symptoms also lasted for 2 or 3 seconds before the power is there again.
  • Tall Vehicle Suggestions 27 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Having decided that the Yaris would be a suitable replacement for my RAV (and thanks to all previous respones on my purchasing dilemma) I now find the car is too low to the ground to safely navigate my steep and weirdly shaped drive. I have a two-day test vehicle and have managed to get it stuck on drive this morning (drive is steep then flattens out rather quickly). Has anyone any suggestions for a car which would sit higher off the ground - again must be: small cute reliable economical OR - any way to elevate the YARIS - would fitting larger tyres do the trick or would this compromise the ride, economy, speedo (have looked through some previous posts)?

  • Peugeot306 noise & vibration over 30mph 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Only ever started when going above say 50mph and when i'd slow down to about 30mph would stop. It also only started about half an hour in to a drive when car was warmed up. It stopped doing it for a good few months and now noise and vibration is back again when driving at high speeds. Has anyone got any ideas??
  • Lexus GS300 - drinking too much fuel 21 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi, 99 model, mk2 with 85k. Car struggles to get 18 in mixed driving, even when driving with light foot. Cruising on motorway at 60mph returns just 24mpg. I know from other owners of same car, that they can get around 25mpg in mixed driving, and up to 32mpg at a steady cruise.
  • Astra 1.3 Diesel. Any one driven one? 28 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Hi, Trying to get owner feedback on the Fiat Diesel engine in the Astra. I know on paper it looks faster and quicker than the basic 1.7 CDTI engine, but whats it like to drive? Does anyone understand why its got a six speed gear box? Is there a point? I am not looking at replacing until June or July, but would jump now if a good deal comes along hence the reason to do my home work without test driving one.
  • Automatic/Semi-automatic? 2 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Why do I need to know? I have an Automatic license. Its a long story but I cant face the trauma of retaking my driving test so please dont suggest it :) I'm not sure which of the new cars I'm legally allowed to drive. I know that I physically 'could' drive one by keeping it in automatic mode all the time, but if it's categorised by the DVLA as a manual then legally I'd need L plates and a qualified driver with me at all times...
  • What age to stop driving? 13 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Ok I know people make mistakes and this sort of thing happens all the time with all ages but I doubt he even realised he had nearly caused an accident. Surely older drivers should know when to call it quits, both my grandfathers gave up driving in their late 60's and this was 25 years ago when there was a lot less traffic on the roads. Perhaps it is time for a compulsory maximum age limit - 80 perhaps and then it is "game over".....what do you think?
  • Jerky Peugeot 306 9 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I've also noticed that the trip meter resets itself when the jerking begins. For example, I will drive the car into my local town and it will be fine, and when I come to drive home again, I will start the engine with no problems, but the trip meter will be set to zero, and under the above conditions it will jerk.
  • official mpg figures and reality 7 May 2005 (Forum)
However, I hear of plenty of drivers who find that they get nothing like the quoted combined figure. This could be due to the way I drive, or the conditions I drive in, of course. (And I sort of get the impression that people with Honda Accord diesel engines don't usually get the mileage they expect, but people with VAG diesels do.)
  • Audi A6 crankshaft 15 Apr 2005 (Forum)
i have an oil leak off the crankshaft on my 1998 1.8T A6. the audi garage said it would cost £343. is there any short term measure i can do - like put a sealant on it? the leak is very small and the only reason i need to get it done is that it drips on the drive (its dripping onto the cover underneath the engine then eventually drips onto drive). audi said to keep an eye on the oil level and i have been and it only drips a spot a day so nothing major but as we have blocked pave drive then its making a mess. id imagine i can get it done cheaper at a non-audi approved garage. they also said that they would need to take the cambelt and tensioner off so to get to it so would be advised to get this done at the same time - total cost £513.
  • 60mile commute to work 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I can get a pretty decent car (golf GTI, bmw 3 series) from the company for about £420/month (ie including tax, loss of allowance, etc). Or I could drive my current car (5yr old Golf GTI), but am loath to put 15k extra miles on it a year and suffer the extra depreciation. Or I could go out and buy a cheap car (£1k) to drive to work and keep the Golf for weekends.
  • Parking Complaint by Neighbour 2 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I share a house with a couple of guys and we all have cars - I am lucky as I have the space on the drive. However, because of restrictions with access to the neighbouring properties the others cannot park on either the front drive or at the rear of the property. The only option is to park on the road outside.
