• Buying a 325i Coupe Sport 2 Oct 2004 (Forum)
  I'm looking to buy a 325i Coupe Sport along the following lines Manual gearbox, leather interior up to 1.5 years old up to £23k Any reasons why buying such a car is a bad idea eg resale value etc. Any suggestions as to where to buy such a car, is a BMW main dealer a good idea or simply over priced.. I have been offered a mystic blue manual 325i coupe sport with black leather (BMW head office car) through a main dealer which was registered in Dec 2003 and has 7k miles on for £24k.

  I get to try a fair few cars via business, but I'm getting increasingly bored with the blandness of them. No matter what the badge, you can spot a VAG product a mile off, Mercs are Mercs, BMWs are BMWs, Hondas are top-endy, Toyotas are soullessly efficient...I could go on. Worse still, even a lot of the Italian and French stuff - a byword for individuality years ago - suffers from a bad case of 'me too' disease.

  Have just picked up a 10 year old BMW 1 series petrol. Autotrader ad states a 3 month warranty on the car. On handover this morning, the trader tells me 'he doesn't remember seeing this on the advert'. Fortunately I took a couple of screen grabs of the adverts and sent them to him.

  Car will not start when primer pump NOT heard to run and conversely will start if pump is audible. Been messed around by BMW a bit, firstly it was definitely air in the fuel rail, which was bled and I was charged £135 for the pleasure. Fault still apparent. Secondly DDE warning lamp illuminated (think due to ezeestart being used to start engine as we were stuck 300 miles from home).

  Sometime it was clear who was bidding - company names emblazened on the fleece gave them away. Now looking at the prices of the Volvo V70 R-design and BMW 520d SE Business Edition (2009/09 or 2009/59 with less than circa 60,000 miles) on say autotrader and deducting an appropriate amount for the profit, I called a few BCA sites in respect of cars that had caught my eye, asking for a Guide Price.

  I have rang trading standards and they say that we havn't done anything wrong as we were unaware the car had its mileage tampered with. By the way, the car had a stamped BMW service that supported this mileage. My girlfriend has owned the car for over a year, having no trouble with it. The new owner says they will take legal proceedings to get a full refund, I have already explained to them that we are innocent and a victim aswell.

  I have been stupid.i have swapped a 1 1/2 yr old mini cooper which was in perfect condition.except for an annoying rattly dashboard ..for a 5 yr old BMW 318 ci..and now i have a big problem. when i start the car from cold..ie after an all night stop. the car starts and sounds like a true BMW.but after the oil has warmed up.it starts to have a clicking sound from around the tappets area.

  I am still driving the car for short distances only (up to 5 miles). I've taken this to my local garage but he says he can't help and I need an automatic gearbox or BMW specialist. Can anyone advise how to diagnose the problem, and any possible solutions? Am I ok to carry on driving it? We can do some diy maintenance ourselves, but if you know of a Yorkshire based specialist who might be able to help that would be useful.

  AA man declares nothing to be done other than relay car to BMW garage forecourt. Time now 8.00pm. Standing on forecourt of deserted BMW dealers with car full of kit and fairly ticked off wife. Try to get taxi to take us remainder of journey. It's Christmas Eve....."

  Any area that gets even moderate impact with a human being seems to deteriorate rapidly. Its why a BMW 645i is not only ugly, but a huge disappointment qualitywise and why if that is the standard of so called quality cars, id rather have a cheap one thanks! I actually like german cars and the image of them, I really do, but they can be shockingly fragile when subjected to normal day to day use.

  If you're going to buy a car with your head this could be it. In spite of its imperfections and my imminent decrepitude I couldn't get past the skate-like BMW 325d. It's a complete driver's car. The engine and transmission are so well matched and implemented I had to suppress a snigger every time I touched the gas. It pulled like a train. The steering is so heavy I will build up muscles in my arms.

  A colleague's wife has a 2001BMW E46 323i Saloon. He took the car in for a routine service at the local BMW main dealers last september. He is reasonably mechanically aware but tends to leave things to the dealers. About a month ago he began to notice a small amount of oil appearing upon his driveway, upon inspection he noticed that the engine sump nut was the cause.

  Have no money, but need a decent car to get around and meet clients, create new business. The wife and I have a Bmw 02 plate cabriolet, which is fantastic car. Love it. We need a car, which is going to look the part, and would love an auto 320 Bmw coupe bout an 02 plate. So my dilemma is Go for the heart = coupe bout £15K Or the head 51 plate mondeo £3K We have no money spare really, so I guess it?
