  • Peugeot 407 - Seat comfort in family car 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)

  • Long warranties and selling 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Some are 5 years, one is 7 years, and one is now doing a 100,000 mile lifetime warranty. A lot of people sell their cars after just a few years because they think it's going to start costing lots of money. I wonder whether these warranties will make any of these people keep their cars for longer? Replacing a 3 year old car seems like a big waste if it has another 2+ years warranty.
  • Advice re car suitable for new driver 26 Sep 2008 (Forum)
In our household we have 2 vehicles, a Picasso and a Berlingo. Our 17 year old has started driving lessons and our plan is to get rid of the Berlingo and buy a small car that he can learn to drive in and, when he's passed his test, have use of when I don't need it. Our requirements are - a low insurance group, the car should not feel basic(I'm used to some comfort) and we are looking to spend between £3000 & £5000.
  • Auction - Risky? 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying a car at auction. These days what's the risk? The way i see it, if i buy a car from a small dealer, the only diff. is I pay more and he gives me say a 3 month warranty. (Which i could buy easily myself) So if i cut out the middle man, and buy a car under 3 years old, I have the safety of the manufacturers warranty, and if the car is older I can take out a aftermarket warranty, ( I know some companies are better than others) and save a packet.
  • Road Tax question. 25 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi Can somebody tell me if I am understanding the road tax mess ? I am now looking for another car but if I buy another 2ltr after 2001 I will have to pay more tax as it is the size of the engine that they are taxing . But if it is before 2001 like my old car it is done on the emissions test . £190 ?
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 330d - sometimes reluctant to sart when warm. 10 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Before taking BiL's car down the dealer, any views on my theory. The car still runs on its original pair of keys (nearly seven years old now). Would the age of the key battery (both OE) potentially cause immobiliser failure to engage.
  • my amphibious car project 9 May 2007 (Forum)
it may sound a bit topgear ish but as i live next to the sea and a good slipway i was thinking of making an amphibious car. something very simple and light like an old fiat uno with an outboard. what do you experts think. keep it simple please. i presume i'll have to add bouyancy etc and seal all doors and keep the driving engine dry ish.
  • Modified cars and road legality 8 May 2007 (Forum)
I'm considering buying myself an old banger and converting it to be purely electric powered. However, I have no idea if I would be allowed to do this and the car still be road legal, or if I would have to get it tested somehow and certified - does anyone have any idea, information or links to point me to?
  • service history 4 Nov 2005 (Forum)
hi, i bought a 3 year old car last year, which was previously a motability car, as confirmed by the v5. These cars are inspected every year, including all servicing and again on handover back to motability after the 3 years lease is up.

  • What Car Depreciation Index 29 Apr 2004 (Forum)
What does the BR think of this data? Realistic, reliable? I'm about to start looking at a replacement for the 8yr old Audi and at face value it looks like just what I need to help me decide between sticking with older prestige models that although the depreciation is much lower, run the risk of a big repair bill (as I've just had with the Audi) or putting my motoring budget more towards funding depreciation on a much newer used car but having the protection of a car still with a good chunk of warranty and lower probability of hefty repairs.
  • Bi-Xenons 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
A two-question query?. 1. I thought Bi-Xenons headlights were intended to ?last the life of the car? or so I read in What Car? A few years back. I have recently seen 2 year-old cars of all makes with one bulb failed. Obviously not true?. 2. My wife?s car has Bi-Xenons fitted..they work OK but there is a warning label under the bonnet stating that they must only be changed by a dealer, plus there is a warning 'Warning: Risk of Death!
