Well in my defence, it was all down to the wife, One of those well intentioned Xmas pressies which seemed destined to languish unused in my garage along... -
New wheels for NoWheels 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I have ruled out a Vauxhall Astra (good value, but the ride is horrible), anything FIAT (reliability), Seat Leon (looks nice, but pricey), VW Golf (price), Peugeot 307 (reliability) and a Mazda 323 (steering too light, I found a 1992 model deeply scary to drive). My first question is about the Xsara. It looks tempting, but I have doubts abt the reliability of Peugeot/Citroen petrol engines: I have been told that they do good diesels, but not-so-good petrol engines. -
5 grand to spend and enjoyment wanted 30 Apr 2003 (Forum)
So, as you can see I've hardly been spoiled. Here are a few I've considered or have been suggested: Mk1 Mazda MX5. Ideally British Racing Green, leather interior. Early 1.6s have 118 bhp, 1.8 has 130. Rear wheel drive. Light. Probably not ideal for a lot of motorway driving. And they aint cheap, and the Jap imports (which Honest John isn't keen on?) -
Top 10 diesels on the market 11 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Cons: Diesel choice is plentiful but the 70bhp 1.4 is a wheezer. £14,050 buys a 1.9 whizzer. Tiscali verdict: 9/10 -------------------------- 5. Mazda CX-7 On sale: Autumn 07 Pros: Mazda is playing zoom-zoom catch-up on the diesel front, but the shapely flanks of the CX-7 promise to make up for any shyness in this market. So you want perfromance and practicality? -
MPG Petrol & Diesel Figures/Car Economics 17 Nov 2021 (Forum)
They are all family hatchbacks, and the following are in the running: Ford Focus, VW Golf, Seat Leon, Kia C’eed, Hyundai i30, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla. Obviously years and mileage vary plus specs available. I’ll focus on the Golf figures, as it’s been the leading candidate, but thinking about others now. I’m a new driver with limited car experience, so apologies if basic questions. -
Toyota Yaris - New car - first week review 7 Apr 2018 (Forum)
We went back to Toyota as we had had a first generation Aygo for 5 years, which until it started letting in water like the Titanic served us well. We also considered Mazda 2 – more expensive and local dealer not the best. Suzuki Swift – similar price to Toyota, but shorter warranty. Seeing cars get ever more technology and systems which don’t really benefit the owner, I am actually appreciating this car for what it doesn’t have. -
VW Crafter CR35 2.5TDI - DPF!!! As usual. 20 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Hi guys, I have had my fair share of DPF problems with my Mazda 6 but the ones im having with our VW Crafter is frustrating to say the least. Ok, We got our van on lease for 4 years - in the space of 1 year, we've had a new engine paid for by warranty due to failed DPF regenerations, after this its been in and out of the dealership approx. 15-20 times, every time the light comes on we take it for on long empty road for a regen... -
Need to repalce Focus RS with something economical - Really don't know what car to get!!! 17 May 2010 (Forum)
I personally don't mind diesels, used to own a Ford Focus 1.8TDCI and while having the RS spent 2 months in a 308 HDI which did 600 miles to a tank on a heavy foot when commuting. So far I've been looking at Mazda 6's but hear their diesel engines are pretty much the worst out there. So what I started looking at next was a Vauxhall Signum with a 1.9 cdti 150bhp. They're nice and roomy (i'm 6ft7), they can carry all my walking gear and others if people go with me. -
Can a driver refuse to give a statement insurers? 23 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I was so surprised to see him reversing towards me, I didn't have time to check behind me (it was clear as it turned out), select reverse and move out of the way before he hit me. My guess as to the cost of the damage is more than a couple of hundred pounds (it's a 2006 Mazda 6), considering it's a whole new bumper and a straightening out job on the internal damage. I'm thinking, probably a couple of grand, even though it doesn't look much. I was driving my children to nursery at the time (1 and 4 years old), so I jumped out of the car and took the pick-up driver's name, number plate and phone number. -

Where have all the good cars gone? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
You can imagine the standard, it looks like someone’s hit it with a rattle can and he’s not alone in this. I’ve recently viewed countless Fiesta’s, Mazda 2’s, Suzuki Swift’s and VW Polo’s with almost all having some very poor paint repairs that’ll soon become very tatty. The trade has changed markedly since I was selling new and nearly new stock. Most cars came back in good order and repairs were almost always up to insurance approved standards. -
Help choosing suv, budget £16k or £300/month 16 May 2018 (Forum)
Used 3 series estate although they ride quite low. Used CX-5 petrol although worried it will lack grunt, similar to the petrol crv. Mazda guy did say the 2.5 was coming to the UK though but haven't read anything else about that and I'm sure it wouldn't be quick enough anyway as his current contract car expires in the summer. In general he is quite open minded, although being in his late 50's definitely would prefer something a little 'plusher'. -
Which used estate would you buy-petrol or diesel? 26 Aug 2016 (Forum)
However, due to a change in job location, in 12 months my mileage will go up significantly to about 20k a year on A roads and motorway. I did have a Mazda 3 2007 1.6 Diesel and (I'm guessing here...) due to my driving habits, short commute etc, I experienced terrible and expensive DPF problems. The whole experience has REALLY put me off ever owning another diesel. -
Another 'help me choose' thread 27 Feb 2016 (Forum)
OR I could get a BMW 328i Touring, with a similar specification to the Skoda, for £32k-£35k after discount. The third option was a Mazda 6 Sport, but having looked at the dimensions this seems too large for my needs, and too wide for my driveway. I would prefer a manual, so understand I need to check the wonky offset pedal box of the BMW to make sure my size 11s fit. -
Honda CR-Z - New car - very first impressions 30 Oct 2014 (Forum)
The battery assists sensibly and MPG is going to be really good, although it'll take me a while to build up my pattern there. The tank isn't huge but again that's a minor thing. Stereo is pretty good; no Mazda Bose effort but possibly that was a little wasted in a noisy MX-5 anyway! All in all, I believe I've made a great choice (VED is very low and insurance has dropped by £130) and although I'll miss my MX-5 a lot, the CR-Z ticks all the boxes for sportiness, boot space and MPG. -
Audi Q2 - first 1,000 miles 25 May 2018 (Forum)
But a good car and worth a look for anyone in the market for this sort of car (MPV / SUV / crossover - don't ask me the difference). Mazda CX-3 - felt good to drive but the 2-litre petrol is too sluggish at low revs. You get to see why the competition all fit turbos. Skoda Karoq - they have tried too hard with the movable rear seats and the floor has a huge step up with the seats down. -
More proof salesmen are idiots 29 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Well its a contender but actual interior space is not great for the cars size. Its big enough for us but the cheaper and better equipped Mazda CX5 is probably a bit bigger, shame I have no faith in the 2 litre non-turbo petrol being up to the job. The Nissan Quashqai is smaller and probably not quite big enough but the Nissan X-Tail is little more expensive and considerably bigger. -
Which car to choose....... 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Options are: Nearly new Fiat Panda 100HP Pros: Same power as Fabia, tight handling, small to wash, cheap to buy, low insurance for what it is, similar size/lightness to Aygo, feels better built than Aygo, built in Bluetooth, climate control, 6 speed box, looks good, young image Cons: Inherent fear of Fiat reliability/rust/build quality, no heated seats, parking sensors or cruise control, harsh bouncy ride, miniscule fuel tank/poorer mpg, tax, poor NCAP rating, very small boot. Nearly new Mazda 2 1.5 Sport Pros: cheap to run, cruise control, good build, should be reliable, good handling reports (not been for test drive yet), looks a bit "younger" than the Bora, interior a bit more imaginative than Panda. -
It's a rattling good car, anyway 14 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have a 6 week old Ford Lynx, a very neat little car locally assembled in the Philippines and exported across Asia-Pacific, based on a Mazda derived engine. My partner, the lissom Growlette, also has one, bought last year. Both cars are Honda Civic value but at local prices and Ford service here is excellent. Mine went in for its 1000km checkup.
