Volvo V70 - Re-importing into U.K. 4 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Having brought my car over to Spain 5 years ago I now need to come back to the U.K. and bring the vehicle with me in a coup[le of months time. It currently has Spanish registration, insurance, tax and test certificate and the earliest document expires in 7 months time. -
Any - Falling new car sales - what happens next? 16 Jun 2011 (Forum)
(We were at the dealership to check out a used FR-V, not buy a new Accord!) This malaise will probably extend across Europe. Spain economy is hobbled. France and German banks have lost gazillions lending to Greece, and may need nationalised (taxpayer) money to stay 'healthy'. Basically, less and less people will be shelling out on new wheels, and even then on something more modest, than they might have bought before, or a used car. -
SEAT Ibiza II 1.4 VW AEX engine - Noisy tappets & engine vibrates with aircon 16 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Hi, i have a LHD Seat ibiza and i live in spain. It has a VW 1.4 AEX engine. The tappets are noisy. Any idea if they will cure themselves with it being hydraulic tappets or is replacement only option? (its an old car dont want to spend out on it), drives ok i guess though.Speedo reads 129,000 ms (80k miles) but based on the crook i bought it off, it6s prob false. -
Note said "Parking - fine" - That's nice, I said. 6 May 2010 (Forum)
Wardens (remember them?) emphatically do NOT get commission. Well, that's how they do it in Spain... -
Vauxhall Movano - Brake Failure - Whos Liability? 6 Jun 2011 (Forum)
This seems to be the cause of the grinding noise as no pad left at all on this side. Spoke to Dealer at weekend and he said his boss is in Spain but would fix problem and that he would call on Wednesday to arrange. I called back today to try to fix a specific day as I have lots of work this week and next week and need to use the vehicle.... -
Honda Jazz 2023 Hybrid. - Honda Intelligent Speed Limit control 6 Jul 2023 (Forum)
I also have a Nissan and that reads speed limits as I would expect - and even holds them in memory if I turn off the engine...as quite probably the same limit will apply when I turn it back on! Honda - loses all the info. I rented a Fiat in Spain last week and that behaved as I would expect. The Honda system is not fit for purpose and should not be advertised as a feature. It is completely useless as configured. -
Imperial measurements and pre-decimal money 8 Jun 2022 (Forum)
One of the delights of visiting the UK for me (along with meeting family and friends) is seeing imperial measurements being used - pints in pubs, miles on signs and phrases such as 'miles per gallon'. My cars in Thailand and Spain both display fuel economy as 'km per litre' - but I always convert to mpg. Ditto distances and speeds I mentally convert to Imperial. I have seen on British news media that Boris is going to allow the use of imperial measurements in shops and possibly re-introduce pounds shillings and pence. -
Toyota Yaris - Use a car cover, or not? 10 Apr 2022 (Forum)
My wife and I split our year between Thailand, Spain and the UK (we don't work - we have a residential property portfolio in UK). We have a car in each country. In about three weeks' time we will be leaving Thailand to spend early summer at our villa in Mojacar. -
Vauxhall Astra - Non UK resident car insurance 24 Feb 2022 (Forum)
My sister and I are British but reside in Canada and Spain respectively. Recently we bought a car in the UK which is garaged at our elderly father's house. We made him the registed owner even though he has no valid licence and can no longer drive. Between our two families we make several visits totalling more than 90 days per year but, having now bought the car it seems our non-resident status makes it SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE TO INSURE any of us to drive it. -
How to get a better APR 15 May 2019 (Forum)
£6-7k. I am not originally from the UK, so all the finance steps are new and different from my country, Spain. I have just confirmed and APR of 14.8% with Zuto for borrowing between £3000-7000 (I haven't decided yet about deposit amount) to be paid in 4 years. I have checked with my bank (which doesn't leave a mark on my credit rate) and it is just slightly better )14.3%. -
For a 25 year Old - Fun throwaway (hopefully not) 19 Dec 2017 (Forum)
At home he drives a choice of family cars from a BMW328ix, a mercedes c250 4wd and a humble toyota mini MPV (which is what he goes out and drives when he doesn't want to go fast but enjoy pushing it a bit. Last week I took him off for a well deserved week in spain, and he hated the fiat punto i hired, which was strange as he didn't drive it in spite of pestering me as he had forgotten his IDP... In january he will be 25 years old and I feel that I can add him as a second driver to a cheap and cheeful something. -
Jaguar XF - BMW 5 series 2011 Manual or Jaguar XF 2011 20 Aug 2016 (Forum)
So the question is more around manual vs automatic, I love driving and I go on driving trips to Switzerland/France/Spain/Scotland from London, so the question is will I love automatic as I get used to it or if driving pleasure is the priority, is manual the one to go for ? -
Toyota Corolla - Returning with an untaxed, un-MOT car 16 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We can't get a MOT without getting in to the UK. We are having to drive from Morocco through Spain and France with our vehicle that will not be taxed anywhere. I'm expecting that we can buy insurance online and print off the emailed cover note (but I might be wrong on this score?) We're concerned that the moment we approach Dover the customs people will give us grief or that on the way home (Bedfordshire) we'll be stopped at least once by the police. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Great car, pity about the dealer 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I have of course written to the C.E.O. of the Co-op, copied to Mazda, but, what would have happened if I had been unable to raise the money, I am due to drive to Spain in just over a week.. -
European driving licences, post-Brexit 23 Dec 2016 (Forum)
I've always thought it strange to allow a straight swap of licence when moving to a country that drives on the other side, but I benefited from that in Spain 20 years ago and my "skeleton" driving licence record still exists on the DVLA computer should I ever need to swap back! -
Worst car, forced to own through circumstances 20 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Regards NB As some Fords were uk produced,we were `allowed` a Fiesta, even though it was made in spain -
Toyota Corolla - What can I do with an old French registered car 25 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Unfortunately he has now gone to Spain to work and left the car with me and asked me to scrap it. Although it is very elderly it is a fantastic runner and I would think it had several more years life left before it totally gives up, so it does seem sad to crush the car, besides which I am not sure whether I can legally do this in this country. -
Many UK bus drivers don't speak English! 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I have been to many European countries, in Holland, Denmark, Sweden, majority of bus drivers understand English. In France, Spain, Switzerland mostly not. But how come in UK, drivers don't speak English??? -
Insurance Query - Two People 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Morning all, Some advice please. My Dad is off in Spain on his bike this week and so, for the next month I'm insured on his car which I plan on doing my trip to London in at the weekend. I am a named driver on his policy. My uncle's coming along too and has suggested sharing the driving so that it's not as hectic seeing as we'd be going there and back in the same day. -
UK Car abroad more or less permantly 23 Feb 2006 (Forum)
3)Are there any countries where their equivalent to the MOT is accepted by the authorities in the UK? I see many ads for UK registered cars (on ebay for example) which are in Spain or France- do their owners really drive them back to the UK several times per year or is there another solution? Thanks in anticpation
