  hello in the near future and hopefully no more than a few months, my daughter may want to buy a small automatic car as she has recently passed her test on a auto. She is not sure what car she learnt to drive in or took her test in other than it was a small car and a automatic - lol. my question is, what would be a good small auto to drive locally that is relatively cheap to run, insure, relaible and safe and max spend about 4/5k plus insurance.

  My Father's 2000X Mercedes E430 has an intermittent problem with the automatic gearbox. One of two things happens. Either: 1. The gearbox goes into neutral while driving (usually on acceleration), and refuses to go back into gear. or 2. The gearbox gets stuck in one gear and will not change either automatically or by overriding with the tiptronic function.

  Hi chaps, My current car had to be sc***ped due to rust so I'm now looking for a replacement. Budget is  £13k  looking for petrol or hybrid automatic. Like the look of Mazda 6 (petrol) just wondering where there are any other options I have missed? Hatchback could work if it has magic seats not sure how common they are now. I'm in Birmingham.

  I need advice please on which car should buy, I need a smallish car which has to be Automatic because I’m partially disabled and has to have satnav, rear and back parking sensors, good drivers seat because I suffer with my back, and good mpg as well. Hope you can help me.

    I happy to seen a well known YouTuber, who scorned someone had got a manual in an high end luxury car.  However, another YouTube enthusiast M539, did n't like automatic on his BMW, and preferred manual on country windy roads.  Just wondering what the wisdom of this forum have to say on the matter?

  When I had a vehicle with a manual gearbox if it stopped and I put it into a low gear and pressed the starter/ignition I could move it forward on the ignition.  Handy to get it off the road onto the verge on breakdown. Now I have automatic will the same apply if I select drive and press the start button? Dont want to try in case it is a NO NO and I cause damage, dvd

  I read in todays paper, I won't say which one as it tends to set people off in another direction, that it can cost £100 more on the premium for driving an automatic car. Apparently the reason is due to the added complication of auto boxes and cost to repair?  Since when has an insurance company had to concern itself with repairs to auto gearboxes other than the odd box damaged in crashes?

  I get WhatCar every month and the new cars all seem to be either hybrid or full electric models.All of these cars, by their very nature, are automatics so does this mean that slowly manuals are going to disappear? Do you think the manufacturers will produce a manual version of an electric car? I know it doesn't need it but you can't beat stirring a manual gear box on a twisty road.

    Not essential but long term I would prefer auto.  Budget not to exceed 11,000 pounds.  Some have 4 speed automatic transmission and some e  6 speed.  What are the advantages, disadvantages of different number ?

  Hello I just bought a CRV 2014 petrol 2.0 automatic. I do all in town London driving and I'm getting around 25MPG, often less. I have the eco option on, and I very rarely go over 30MPH. Is this normal? how can imporve on this.?

  The older style auto gearboxes "slush-box" seem to be going out of fashion.  Is it possible to ceep, with no throttle input, with the newer dual-clutch automatic gearboxes?   Are they now more reliable or are they still having many failures with reliability?  I need a new vehicle, auto, but must be able to creep within an inch of positioning in my very narrow drive.

  Hi, i was wondering if anyone knew the approximate cost of replacing the gearbox, on a semi automatic yaris, it's an '05 and has mileage in the twenties, and the whole gearbox has gone on it. Does anyone know also why this might have happened to a car with such low mileage too? Any advice etc... would be really appreciated, as we're in dire straits at the moment!

  I have not used my 1996 automatic Primera for seven months. I would like to start using it again. What do I need to check. Thoughts that occur to me are deterioration of petrol, oil and rubber components. Any advice so that I can make a safe trip to the MOT test.

  I have a problem with my left knee and it looks like I need a car with an automatic transmission. It has to be reliable. I'd prefer something small (no bigger than my Mazda 323 because of a narrow garage). I'd also like something with a bit of oomph that handles well. I have a horrible feeling that I'm asking for the impossible, but any suggestions would be very welcome.

  Had a lift in a new CRV Automatic yesterday.A very smooth and comfortable vehicle. Gear shift lever on dashboard was a novel sight. Do these vehicles have any over ride buttons/levers for when the going gets tricky e.g. snow? The owner tells me he bought it for his wife to commute to Buxton, Derbyshire. -- I wasna fu but just had plenty.

  Need some advice... Has anyone ever driven a small engined automatic car such as a 1.3 or under? Looking at the new 1.0 Charade, Sirion and the soon to be released 1.1 Picanto from Kia. Are these cars unusable or are they simply slow? Could you get away with one from day to day if you don't go on the motorway?

Does this mean it is not a proper mechanical automatic box and one of these F Speed type electrical things that won't hold on hills and is jerk to drive?   Could anyone recommend a small reliable automatic for my wife? Our maximum budget is £2,000 which is somewhat limiting. Have spotted a few 1990-92 Renault Clio autos within price band, but the guides warn against old Renault autos for poor reliability.
