  • 51 Dualfuel Vectra cutting out on LPG 6 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My 136k Dualfuel Vectra has started cutting out when running on gas, usually when going from overrun to drive (ie going onto roundabouts, accelerating after slowing for corners etc. Continues running after manually switching to petrol, but then will not switch back to gas.

  • 206 HDI ECU Problems? 7 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi The last couple of days my Peugeot 206 1.4 HDi (2004) has started to misbehave. When the car has just been started from cold and has not been running for more than a couple of minutes the dashboard sometimes decides to reset itself following the sequence it follows when I first turn the ignition on. The engine carries on running normally but it's very uncomfortable being sat at traffic lights with the dashboard going crazy and clicking at me (assume that's solenoids or something behind the dash being reset).
  • VW Bora Heater 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Okay, I tried this in Technical with no response. Maybe one for Aprilla? My wife has a VW Bora 1.9TDi, 90PS which is now used for mostly local runs after a life of longer runs with me. In the winter the heater has always taken a good few miles to get up to full heat (around 10 minutes). I have a newer Golf TDi which appears to have an immersion heater because there is some heat from the heater within a mile or so.
  • Ford Focus aircon 11 May 2006 (Forum)
I don't suppose I've done too badly given it's worked perfectly for 7 years but I think the gas has run out on my aircon. I was just moving the car and had the aircon on and you can hear the condenser kicking in every 10 seconds or so and the air doesn't feel especially cold. Is this because the car has stopped?
  • Problem after timing belt change - Astra 27 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Hi I have just had a new timing belt fitted to my 2000 Astra Coupe, the care was running perfectly before i had it done. I drove the car out of the garage and it seemed to feel very sluggish. When its idleing, the rev counter is jumping all over the place, and almost goes to stall, then revs itself a bit to keep it running.
  • Hyundai diesel engine query 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
It is also quite sluggish for the first 1/2 mile or so. Also, even when the car has returned from a good long fast run, the smell of the car exhaust is quite oily. And I would say that the economy of the car on a good long run, is not marvellous at about 32mpg at best. Do people think that the injection timing is out slighty, or are all these symptoms simply characteristic of the engine/transmission combination?
  • Company Car opt-out and the industry 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
In the last couple of years huge swathes of former company car drivers have opted out and now run their own cars. This is in part due to subtle persuasion by the government and also by companies such as my own. My question for discussion is as follows, is this harming the sale of high-spec luxury cars and indeed new cars in the UK ?
  • problems with FireFox and Kia 27 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Is anyone else having a problem with the Kia Pop up ad locking up Firefox. I have tried it on 2 different PC's, One running XP the other running W2000Pro, And I have the same problem on both. When I have Clicked on the Kia Popup (either by accident or on purpose) a new window appears that then locks up the screen and it is a CTRL+ALT job to close it.
  • astra d 22 Aug 2005 (Forum)

  • Optimax Dream Car promotion 26 May 2005 (Forum)
Only yesterday did I become aware of the new Dream Car promotion run by Shell and the Sunday Times, via sales of Optimax. It has been running since 5 May and goes on until 6 July, but my regular filling station gave me no cards until yesterday. Note that no purchase is necessary and that cards can be obtained direct from the promotion company: Dream Car Promotion PO Box 454 St Albans AL4 0YE by sending a stamped, self-addressed envelope -- just one claim per person per day.
  • Spare Wheels 3 May 2005 (Forum)
Many early cars that I have seen in films etc, either had the spare wheel mounted on the outside of the boot, or occasionally on the side "running board". At what stage did it become norm for these to come inside the car into the boot and what instigated the change? Did early cars not have boots, or not big enough for a wheel? Or was running gear so much more complex?

  • Trading down car sizes. 25 May 2004 (Forum)
I could probably get about £10K for mine, pick up a Puma for £6K and pocket the cash and also save some money on the running costs especially in the first year as third year 75 ownership takes a another big bite out of the value. Would this seem like a sensible thing to do? There is a method for my madness which I can explain shortly.
  • Cavalier 16V Ecotec Failed MOT Emissions 1 Apr 2004 (Forum)

  • Fiesta automatic choke problems 4 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Please can someone help me! I'm a student and have been running a 1.1 mk3 (L reg) fiesta on a shoestring but i think I've finally met my match. Basicly whenever I try and start the car using the "cold start" procedure or otherwise it floods the engine. The engine turns and ALMOST fires, but doesn't.
  • Mk I Mondeo Roof Bars 16 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Has anyone got any experience of fitting original Ford roof rails (the ones running running from front to back) on a secondhand estate. All the aftermarket ones look pretty weedy & don't have a large enough distance apart (front to back) to give me chance of carrying large timber sheets etc.
  • AC - Cross threaded spark plug 17 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My questions are: a) Could it keep running without problems for some time (it does not seem to have affected it so far) b) Is there an alternative to having the cylinder head reconditioned? (if not, then I\'m going to trade it in because it\'s worth less than the cost of the work).
  • HELP!! Ford Escort 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
It starts first time, every time, but, after about 5seconds it starts to splutter, and stall, that is unless you stay in the car and keep your foot on the accelerator. At this point it appears to be running on 3 cylinders, and some black smoke is comming out of the exhaust. After about 5-7 mins of high-ish revs, i get a puff of blackish smoke, the revs increase and the car then runs smoothly!! I have changed the spark plugs, HT leads, Dist cap and rotar arm, and quite frankly i am at loss as to where the problem lyes?
