Should I buy a car if its service history is missing? 14 Apr 2014 (Ask HJ)
I have tested and driven a 2008 Volvo V70 2.4D for sale with 43,000 miles on the clock and an asking price of £9850. The car is in excellent condition,... -
Citroen C5 Tourer 3.0 HDi Estate - Door hinges not a warranty item? 2 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My car is just over 4 years old with 40k miles. The driver's door is making a bit of a graunching sound when opened, the Citroen dealer says it needs new hinges. These are apparently not covered by warranty (I have Citroen extended warranty) but are considered "bodywork" problems and I've been advised to take it to a bodyshop. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso - Rear shock absorbers - replace them? 12 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi all, I have noticed that the rubber dust cover on both of the rear shock absorbers are torn. Otherwise the shock absorbers seem fine - the car passed MOT and as far as I can tell, they work. I am wondering if I should replace them because of the damaged dust cover. -
Overseas advantages of RAC/AA/Greenflag 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
The time has come for renewing my Breakdown cover, and shell out some quid for another years worth of breakdown cover. Between the three mentioned above, apparently there is one which gives you additional benefits while in the US/Europe i.e discounts with other purchases eg car hire etc. -
Any - Temporary insurance for learners. 30 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I've been looking at the short term car insurance policies for learners using a relative's car, and for a couple of days of cover they're certainly affordable (especially if she pays). Question is, has anyone else here used this type of insurance and if so, is there anything which is not immediately obvious to be aware of? -
Niche Motor Insurance Query 6 Jan 2003 (Forum)
We could buy her a car, but we don't need two and this would be costly. So, I wondered if it would be possible to get insurance that would cover just her business mileage. My first thought was to try one of the motoring syndicates at Lloyds of London. -
Omega V6 noisy idle after repair..... 1 Sep 2002 (Forum)
(cambelt been changed at 40K and 78K, current mileage 93K). It also sounds similar to "noisy" tappets. Would replacing the rocker covers have something to do with this? Before the work was carried out the car idled very smoothly and near silent when the bonnet was closed - it was hard to tell from inside the car whether the engine was started or not. -
Ford Mondeo Mk3 - Ford Mondeo Mk3. Water in footwells 14 Jan 2017 (Forum)
I once again removed the pollen filter to discover the drain facility, a rectangular section channel from the drain holes secured to the underneath of the cover, had come adrift. This obviously allowed draining water to drop immediately into the car. This channel is secured to the cover at manufacture by either thermo-plastic welding or some adhesive. -
'Metal' interiors 21 Feb 2005 (Forum)
strips? around not only ?B?, but also ?A? pillars. People do notice such things. It?s OK in cheap cars, but not in expensive ones. Looks nasty especially when in contrast with bright body colours, like red or yellow. Ah, BTW ? the new Passat (coming soon) has those un-covered too ;) -

Claim dilemma - work vs personal insurance 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Pub discussion on Sat night, one guy had used the office pool car to visit a client and when he returned to the car park, managed to reverse it into the side of his own car! Should he claim off work insurance - if he had hit any other car this would be the outcome - or claim off his own insurance (insured comprehensive). -
She's leaving home - the insurance dilemma 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
But her insurers seem unable to oblige in providing cover whilst the car is not being used and only offer a 'suspension' which actually provided no cover at all but preserves the no claims. Another option may be to look at a multi car policy where my wife and I can use any of three vehicles, and my daughter can be added to the policy to use her own car for holiday periods. -
Driving in Europe 26 Nov 2001 (Forum)
One of the more profitable earners must be the continental car breakdown cover offered by the AA and the like. It's reasonable to charge for the cost of English-speaking telephone support, emergency hotel accommodation and repatriation costs (although this must be a rather unusual event) but a £ 60+ rate quoted for 15 days cover seems to ignore the fact that a member cannot be requiring UK service at the same time. -
VW GOLF - Insurance failing to pay....who is at fault? 8 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi, new to this forum but urgently need advice, so apologies for length of post. My 20 year old daughter was involved in car accident 2 weeks ago, and her vw golf was written off. Her cover with Diamond was fully comp, SDP and commuting to and from home and place of business. She works for a solicitors and often in the morning, on her way to work, she picks up post from DX office in town. -
Ford Zetec. 3 door. Petrol 2004 reg. - Annual servicing by Ford 11 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Dear Sir, Each year I have a full service and MOT on the car. This was done two weeks ago. During the service routine the engineer gets me to buy a winter seasonal service as well. I point out that if the car is getting a full service then anything done in the seasonal winter service would surely be covered. -

Why is my premium so high for a 10 year old, low value car? 13 Nov 2017 (Ask HJ)
I've noted that to insure my car, which is 10 years old and is worth about £1000, costs the same as insuring a similar size car and engine that costs £12,000.... -
