    For past 6 months I have noticed a tapping noise from engine when accelerating especially after 2,000 rpm. It is very pronounced on cold start but can still be heard after long motor way runs. My wife says it sounds like I'm running some great big sewing machine! Could it be the fuel - I have made several trips to France recently and have filled up with 95 E10 grade petrol. Most petrol stations now have only this grade and rumour has it that this new stuff can cause problems with old cars.

    Hi Guys , we own a pt petrol , but a friend has a 2.2 deisel , went to start it on drive and it wont go , went to chysler they looked new pump , which they did , still wont go then said we dont know , pump is working fine , still wont go , funny thing is give it a sniff of easy start and it runs for a few seconds , then dies he took it to another garage , 8 weeks later still not running after changeing a couple of sensors , and of course no real manuals to have a look at for deisels either , any help guys would be great he has had it 14 weeks and only driven for 2 does anyone have a diagram of how the system works ie. from ecu to relsay to sensor , pump etc etc

    Not sure if it started when I was reversing once and the engine laboured due to low revs but is a annoyance never the less. I don't want the usual dealer run around - can't see the problem or say that is normal It is noticed at higher speeds (50+) on straight runs so no ability to test on corners as this isn't an F1 car Different topic... My warranty is to end in a few weeks and am thinking about the renewal but not sure if I will keep the car as it has been the most problematic of any I had tbh but need a 7 seater.

    Hi all - I'm considering a 55 plate 2.0 petrol SE with 70K for around £5K. Full HSH I was wondering what they are like to live with - Whatcar claims they are expensive to run - if this so? What sort of MPG will I get on long runs on motorway at 80mph - A roads. I'd like 35mpg - is that realistic in your eyes? I use an excellent indie garage - I'm assuming they will be able to service it - is there anything about these that would mean I'd have to use a Honda dealer.

    Tried a simple kit with a one way valve and the same kit with the valve removed and a 1/2 bottle of fluid maintained. I've tried with engine running and without. I bleed in the order RR/LR/RF/LF as per Haynes. I can get a hard pedal without the engine running - but then I get a long pedal travel and minimal brakes.... No ABS. No bleed nipple on the master cylinder.

    On the review on this site I noticed that it states "TSB 12th March 2007. If customers complain of poor running due to carbon build up on the valves, replace the valves with a modified scraper type which will eliminate carbon built up and running faults." Does anyone have any further detail on this? From past experience with the dealers round here I will immediately get fobbed off and my warranty expires in about 6 months so if needed I would liked this done soon before I'll have to pay for it myself a year down the line when the problem is worse.

    Oil is clean and hasn't really dropped since the last service (8 months ago). Its going into MINI next week, however the warranty runs out on the 25th Sept and dont want a big bill.. It runs fine, doesn't overheat and performance is ok - initial thoughts were head gasket, but never heard of it being a problem on this engine before..

    The other day I put new battery in, took it for a spin but the positive terminal was loose so it brought up the ECU light as it juddered for a few moments. I reconnected pos terminal and car runs no problem I've tried disconnecting battery for 10 mins and reconnecting but the light stays on. Car is running perfectly and I don;t have time to take to dealers just to get light extinguished (I have recent diagnosis of serious illness and am currenly undergoing treatment).

    I got into my Forester yesterday to find the heater blower running, this was before I'd put the key in the ignition. I always have it on at least number 1 when using the car. When I tried to start the car the battery was flat, presumably caused by the blower running since it was last used over 24hrs previously.

    About 3 months ago my head gasket went, I had it changed at a car garage and when I got it back it wasn't timed correctly. I re-timed it myself and it was then running okay and it was running okay and starting first time Until a couple of weeks in it was needing more turning over to start. This problem grew and grew until it will not start at all. I have changed the plugs, checked for any loose or damaged HT leads, dampness etc.

    Driving home gently at 1500 to 1800rpm and then accelerating produces steady smoke and then a billow as the car accelerates. The smoke is black. Looks like over fuelling. The engine runs very smoothly, mpg is good as ever, performance is slightly down on normal. Only noticed the problem this week and i have run the tank right down, put common rail injector cleaner through and put new fuel in.

    hi there my sister has an audi A4 quattro 3.0L V6 52plate the problem is sometimes it turns over but wont start i plugged my diagnostics in and up came P0116 and P0118 it was telling me the engine coolent temp circuit was high also when the engine heated up it would not run properly and the engine was very hot with the fan running all the time. I bought a temp switch but i couldn,t find where it went all the sensors i found did not match what they gave me unless its the wrong one,does anyone know where its located?

    Experienced poor running since mid-March 2008. Dealer diagnosed that the coil pack needed replacing and replaced this on May 6th. Then diagnosed that the HT lead was corroded and needed replacing. They cobbled together a HT lead together from another car to keep the two running.

    In a London Taxi, same lump as early Galaxys & some Mondeos I think: seems to have better acceleration with the turbo pressure hose unplugged off the EGR...

    I have inherited my late father's Audi A6 petrol Avant and whilst it generally runs well and returns 34mpg I have had a nagging problem. It has a misfire sometimes! It is more a hesitation or hiccup rather than a regular miss. The odd thing is that if the engine is switched off and restarted it normally totally dissappears.

    I have a 2006 Focus TDCi. It has always been a good starter and ran well - until now. A number of friends are running up to 25% vegetable oil in their 5 year old diesels so I decided to try it. I put a small percentage in a full tank of diesel - 6 litres in about 45 litres of fuels and it worked well. No problems at all.

    The oil level on the dipstick now when the engine is cold is 1 -2 mm about the maximum notch. I am not too bothered about this but would like someone to put my mind at rest. Also when I have run the engine for say 3 minutes from cold and then I check the oil, there are a few bubbles visible in the oil on the dipstick. Is this normal to have some bubbles after the engine has been run or does this mean that the crankshaft is whipping up the oil in the sump ?

    My Audi 80TDI has suddenly started smoking when the engine is ticking over after a run. The car has covered 120K mostly local miles and has a full VW service history. My VW specialist has treated the engine with injector cleaner and recommended a long run to clear the exhaust out. But after changing the air filter which involved disconnecting the pipe to the EGR valve I noticed clouds of smoke intially out of the exhaust on tick over.

    But hang on a moment -- since the whole point of modern multigrade oils is that viscosity *increases* with temperature, would it not be better to drain it when it's cold? In addition, if the engine has not been run for a few hours -- or days -- then the oil will have drained off the up-and-down and round-and-round bits back into the sump. And when the oil runs over your fingers as you remove the sump plug, you won't get scalded either.
