This could make a good buy for anybody looking for an everyday car with retro appeal and the ease-of-driving that automatic transmission brings. After all, the MkII Astra is one of those models from the ’80s that’s still available for relatively little money, yet which offers plenty of usability. -
A Grand Monday: Rover 600 11 Aug 2014 (News)
This particular car has clocked up 132,000 miles so far, and is described by its Rover-specialising vendor as driving superbly. We admit that the 620Si isn’t the most sought after of Rover 600 specifications; and we can see from the photographs in the link that this example isn’t cosmetically perfect, with a slight ding in the bootlid and no doubt some minor tidying required if you’re fussy about aesthetics. -

A Grand Monday: Alfa 33 13 Jan 2014 (News)
It also added some very tempting Cloverleaf-branded models to the range, which incorporated such toys as four-wheel drive and 16-valve engines. But by then, it was looking like a bit of a relic, not helped by the fast that the opposition had caught up and overtaken Alfa Romeo comprehensively during the '80s. But that was then, and this is now - and what might have seemed a bit average back then, can look like a beautiful survivor today. -

Preview: H&H classic car sale, Duxford, 16 October 7 Oct 2013 (News)
The car was immaculate, perfect, with tonneau covers and spares etc which had never been used. The asking price was beyond my means and in any case I had no driving licence or any sensible place to keep the car even if I were able to acquire it.' He picked up the car in May 1954, and from then, it was either used sparingly, or housed in professional storage. -

American Honda Civic Hybrid owner wins fuel economy court case 3 Feb 2012 (News)
"The court stated in error that advertising EPA fuel economy estimates is misleading unless the advertising also explains the effects of stop-and-go driving and the use of air conditioning. In fact, federal law does not permit states or state courts to impose additional requirements of this kind," said Honda, which has offices in Torrance. "Thus, a Honda advertisement that accurately referenced EPA mileage estimates, truthfully stated that a driver can get 'up to 50 mpg' and carefully noted that mileage will vary is not misleading as a matter of law," This is only a small claims court judgement and may not stand up on appeal, but it is indicative of a growing sense of unease among owners that real life fuel consumption figures bear no relation to the official ones. -

Rare Mercedes 220SE Ponton Cabrio at auction 1 Jul 2011 (News)
Deriving from the German word Ponton, meaning pontoon, the design trend reputedly originated from the German wartime practice of adding tread armour along the full-length of tank sides, and typically led to the integration of the front fenders within the full-width, full-length bodywork. One of only 17 right-hand drive models from approximately 2000 220SE Coupé and Cabriolet models manufactured, the six-cylinder ‘soft top’ on sale at Historics auction bears all the hallmarks of the obviously oversized, slab-sided appearance of vehicles in the post-war Ponton period. -
