Audi 80 B2 1.8 - Just another Pierburg 2e2 question.. 5 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Since I fixed the flange the mixture smells super rich though, exhaust is pretty white which maybe because of the cold here in Norway (no sweet smell, compression all works out, not using any coolant) but it seems odd that it doesn't burn off the condensation and settle after a drive. Also the engine still over-runs. Sometimes it doesn't at all, then every 3rd or 4th drive it'll over-run for 2 or 3 seconds. -
Volkswagen Passat 1.6 TDI Bluemotion - Car Giant AA Warranty on Passat 25 Apr 2016 (Forum)
This was all replaced through Car Giant with no problem plus I was given a courtesy car for a week with excellent customer service Now however 7 months down the line, the car had started losing coolant at a quick rate. I rang Car Giant again who then put me in touch with the AA who covered my Warranty. The AA told me to recover the car at my own expense to Halfords nearby which i done so. Halfords then diagnosed it very quickly as a leaking waterpump and told AA they would new order a new one however they would not replace it without replacing the timing belt kit as this was standard practice when replacing the waterpump. -
Citroen Relay - Van Smoking Heavily! Please help 19 May 2015 (Forum)
4- No other symptoms of HGF, the heaters are warm, no coolant loss. I appreciate its just guesswork for you lot, but hopefully the symptoms may correspond to something somebody else has had problems with. -
Mini Hatch One 2007 (57) - Overheating issue 20 Nov 2014 (Forum)
There is no loss of oil, no change in the oil colour (the oil was recently changed, and is still a nice clear golden colour), and the engine coolant pink water is not going down. There is no sludge on the oil cap. Could it be a head gasket, or any other suggestions? If it is a head gasket, does anyone have any experience on how much this could cost in terms of lamour hours/parts etc? -
BMW 3 Series E46 - water leaking under carpet in drvers footwell. 16 May 2014 (Forum)
Ive read that you need to press down on the wiper blade 6cm from where the nut is and it should pop up but its no luck. How do I remove it? Also, its not coolant I can smell either, just water. I don't know how and if I should mess around with the accelator pedal to remove the carpet. Ive put my hand in all the nooks and crannies to see if its wet and its all dry. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus Mk1 Speedo not working when it's Hot 18 Jul 2013 (Forum)
The speedo kept dropping out at times, but only when the weather was hot. The temp reading on the dash was normal, coolant levels normal, oil level normal, and again, no loss of power or engine management light, just the speedo and mileometer. So, I replaced the VSS again, this time the part only cost me £12.00 and it came with a lifetime warranty. -
Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9 (1993) - Do I keep my pristine Peugeot 205 GTi ?? 17 May 2013 (Forum)
(The original lacquer was starting to craze on the roof, despite all the waxing!), and new brake lines\discs, new coolant\breather hoses and much more. The Interior is all original , and again in excellent condition. I don't use the car much nowadays, as I have my 'every day' car, and if I did sell it now, I would probably upgrade my existing car. -
Seat Leon 1.4l 16v 2003 - Seat Leon engine start failure in cold weather 13 Dec 2012 (Forum)
Has this got anything to do with the cold or the coolant pump or the accumulator? It’s very strange, just to stop like this. Also, I’m mainly a weekend driver, as I commute to work by train. I would appreciate any info, suggestions or even ideas what to try. -
2005 Renault Grand Espace 3.0 dCi - Renault Grand Espace Overheating 14 Nov 2012 (Forum)
All anyone is willing to tell me is that my engine is broken and i need to replace the engine. Here are my questions: 1. Can i continue to drive the car (making sure the coolant and oil is in good shape)? it woudl seem to me i can. I will watch the temp guage to make sure it doesn't overheat. 2. if we cannot use the car, should i replace the engine or is it worth replacing the head gaskets or liner? -
peugeot 106 1.5 diesel - Does this head gasket look ok? 2 May 2011 (Forum)
I can't understand why the gasket looks okayish, does this indicate a warped head or engine block problems? The original problem was exhaust gases pressuring the coolant system even when cold, as can be seen here.. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLoonyl#p/a/u/2/jqMa85d0hqg also, first thing in the morning it took a while to start, with smoke out the back, after it had started , it was fine all day. -
Volkswagen Golf IV - Golf IV - Engine Temp displayed as Cold 30 Nov 2010 (Forum)
After a few months of working the dial stopped working again, this time it would either work or not at all. This time I replaced the Coolant Temp Sensor (the green plastic one with the O ring), again for a few months it worked fine and then stopped working one day and hasn't since. I have been driving around for a few months with the engine temp reading as zero, the engine gets hot and it doesn't seem to perform any differently. -
Ford Fiesta 1.25 1996 - Another Overheating Fiesta! 26 Oct 2010 (Forum)
When i got there i opened the bonnet & noticed the heater valve inlet hose looked quite swollen, so i touched it, at the point the plastic pipe it connects to disintergrated, covering me in rather hot, smelly, brown coolant. So, to get home i bypassed the heater valve with a bit of copper pipe, and had to stop twice to let it cool down on the way home. Ordered a new heater valve from ford, fitted that the next day, had a bit of an air lock which sorted itself out, then started overheating again. -

Done 2000 miles in my car now 24 Sep 2009 (Forum)
They are nicer and probably less troublesome cars out there but changing will cost quite a bit more than what I have now so there is just no point. I know my car has not used a single bit of oil in the 2000 miles I have had it, not used any coolant or anything which is more than can be said for some unknown car. I also find my engine perfect for my needs, as its 65bhp on a light weight car and it can also do 45-50mpg quite easily as well as offering very cheap insurance. -
Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.4 Overheating - now problems 27 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I pulled over into a lay-by a few hundred metres down the road. Popped the bonnet and was greeted by a strong smell of burning antifreeze an empty coolant bottle and a very hot engine. Took the air filter assembly off to reveal a split hose between the heater matrix and engine. RAC guy stretched the hose to re-fit and filled the bottle back up with water and off I went. -
Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - 1990 1.3 Fast idle when warm, overheating, overrun 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Cooling fan may or may on come on. When stopped idle remains (quite) fast. Engine temp rises in compartment. All coolant hoses and inflow manifold appear to get uniformly very hot. Sometimes after the temp has risen I am gettign overrun when I turn off the iginition, but this is not consistent. I am not using the car for long journeys at the moment as I am not confident the temp will behave. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 2.5 V6 Auto - Auto cooling system? 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
There is a small rad in behind the front of the lower bumper, in front of the main rad. Any thoughts would be very welcome! The coolant level is still fine. -
Mk1 Leon temp gauge & fuel gauge 31 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Both the fuel gauge and temperature gauge have been intermittently faulty for a while now - I had the dealer run a diagnostic check and the fuel gauge sender needs to be replaced (fault code 00771 030 - open circuit or short to positive), as does the coolant temperature sender (code 01039 030 - open circuit or short to positive). Also, the steering angle sender has a sporadic fault (00778 014), which may explain why the car tends to drift left when I let go of the wheel, even though I've had the alignment checked. -
