  • Dental work 19 Aug 2002 (Forum)
It's annoying - especially if it's your own money - but you can't stop it, short of "guarding" your car all the time. By the time the car is three years old it will look like all the others. Alternatively, you could do what we do - always try to take the Citroen C15 white van to the supermarket. Then watch the beemer and merc drivers scatter!
  • Alloy Wheels 29 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Walking to my car this evening I saw three cars in the space of about 50 yards wearing what I must describe as hideous alloy wheels. They weren't bangers either - a BMW, a VW, and a Peugeot all less than 3 years old.
  • Cheapest new car in Britain? 18 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Seen on display outside Safeways in Haverfordwest, Pembs to-day. Brand new Suzuki (I think it's the Alto, didn't have time for a close look) with decals...
  • Daewoo - cambelt warning 11 Nov 2001 (Forum)
This a Vauxhall inspired unit! Mate of mine just had his go @ 38k. Daewoo wern't interested as the car was 4 years and 3 months old. Repairs cost almost £1300!! I know of another Deawoo car where the belt broke @ 45k. Hope these messages from real life serve as warning to Daewoo drivers!
  • Used Saab 9-3 25 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Considering buying a used 9-3 - 2 yrs old 25,000 miles What should I watch out for? Is this a good vehicle - I'm looking for something solid, comfortable and safe - good on the motorway and ok to drive in town. I've looked at the car-by-car breakdown - just wondering if anybody has good/bad experiences of these.
  • Volvo V90 - Volvo V90 / V60 Question mark on Residual values 30 May 2019 (Forum)
Never owned a Volvo before so I visited the nearest dealer and drove a V60 Momentum Pro. Nice car and I really liked it. The sales guy mentioned the Road Fund Licence changes and that as this car had a list price of £44k when new, it would attract a higher rate of RFL (about £465 per year) - the screen price was £29,000 and the car was 7 months old.
  • Renault megane 2002 1.9dci - Loose back end - Shocks? 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I recently gave my old megane to my girlfriend until MOT runs out in October,  We were away on a trip this weekend, with the car fully loaded with four passengers (one a tad heavy) and a boot full of bags etc.
  • 2002 Ford Ka 1.3i - Buying advice - Buying a cheap temporary car, advice needed 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
There is a small amount of rust on the drivers door and one of the a pillars. They've replaced both of the sills recently and had the bottom of the car treated with wax-oil at the same time. Its had new front tyres fitted recently and break pads too. They've looked after the car very well. I had a nice car myself up until last month where I had to sell it due to lack of use.
  • Mazda 626 (2000 - 2002) - 00 2.0D Diesel leak 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
It doesn't seem likely this area could have been disturbed but it is a bit of a coincidence that the leak started when it did. Anyway I then took the car to my normal independent garage. They took the head off and decided it needed a new fuel pipe and injector - cost £392. I gave them the go ahead about 10 days ago now. Yesterday I thought I had better chase them as SWMBO was getting restless what with no car and a 2 year old daughter...
  • Replacement car - advice wanted please 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I would probably be looking at a 1 to 2 year old car. Probably only drive about 7,000 miles pa, mostly local trips but with longer ones each month. Will consider most cars but definitely not any Vauxhalls. It would be nice if it wasn't too ugly, but considering the appearance of the Civic that's obviously not my first priority.
  • Street parking - right of access? 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
There is one house at the end which has a very old and very small shed/garage that opens *directly* onto the road (i.e no pavement). Even so, it's so small you would not get a modern car of any description in there. That includes an old style Mini.
  • Good quality bangers 29 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Every other car actually running around on the road of the same age or parked up seemed to be in much better condition. The stuff in car dealers seemed to be total rubbish. Several had missing door mirrors, dents, rust or all over scratches that seemed unusual for 10 year old cars.
  • Low mileage insurance? 15 Apr 2022 (Forum)
I get frustrated trying to get insurance quotes. It just seems they are harvesting data. I pondering getting a an electric car, but wanted to keep the old petrol one, for longer journeys and more capacity. Someone pointed to me to a classic car, but they wanted £2,000 in premiums. Although it is n't a classic car, but an older car.
  • Handing back a car on Hire Purchase 25 May 2021 (Forum)
Hi all. I am almost 30 months into a 5 year HP payment plan on my current car. As far as I am aware this means I could hand the car back to the selling dealer and walk away with nothing more to pay. However, being almost two and a half years old the bodywork is not perfect, no dents but a few minor scratches that could do with work before the dealer would sell it on.
  • 2015-2016 - Toyota Yaris or Ford Fiesta? 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Hi. I am looking for a used car for around 6-7k which I think could get me around 5 years old car. I quite like the look of a Ford Fiesta ( 1.1L or 1L ecoboost) and Toyota Yaris 1.3L petrol cars (both 2016 models). I'm having hard time deciding between the two so was hoping for some opinions on which on may be a better choice?
  • Peugeot 3008 - Scrape on approved used car 3 Dec 2019 (Forum)
've put a deposit down on an approved used car (just over a year old) and afterwards whilst looking at the car again noticed a little scrape on the opening side of the drivers door, as though it's been opened against a wall or something.   Picture here:  20191203-094233.jpg   The dealer has told me they can touch it up but will still be visible.
  • Finding the name of the previous owner of a car 13 May 2018 (Forum)
I am sure a few years ago, the V5 document gave the number of previous keepers and the name and address of the most recent.  However, the V5 which has just arrived for my wife's new (to her) car has only the number of previous keepers and no name.   The car is only 20 months old and was bought from a main dealer, so I assume it was a demonstrator or Mobility owner.  In any event, I 'm not worried, only curious; but when did they stop putting the name of the previous keeper on?

  • Hyundai i30 Estate - Buying a new car 15 Aug 2010 (Forum)
However the dealer will give me no discount from the list price as I'm getting the benefit of their manufactures trade in trade up which gives me £3000 for my old car.  Does anyone know if the dealership is pulling a fast one when they say there is no movement in their price in these circumstances?  List price is 17,150 + 395 (paint) less £3000 trade in trade up my car is only worth £1000 max.
