  • Mazda 3 - Engine check light codes 15 Jan 2024 (Forum)
My Mazda3 (gen-1, 1.6 petrol) threw an engine check light the other day whilst I was out on a shopping trip.  The car seemed fine otherwise, and...
  • Honda Jazz - Replacement for Honda Jazz 1 Jun 2025 (Forum)
I was told in no uncertain terms to leave well alone, and flagged instead towards the no doubt excellent Mazda CX3 and its slightly bigger sibling, the CX30. Still thinking along those lines, and I now have the money in the bank to do something decisive. Question this time, however, is about the Nissan Qashqai.
  • N/A - Low-profile wheels/tyres 31 Dec 2023 (Forum)
I've been meaning to post this for a while. As some may recall, I'm running a Mazda CX-5 and have been very impressed with the car - except for one thing. It's the SportNav model and that means the dreaded low-profile wheel/tyre set-up. (The specs are 225/55R19/99V.) The ride, on original Toyo Proxes tyres, was pretty harsh.
  • Time to choose another car 19 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I drive over 15,000 miles/year, mainly motorway miles with a 270-mile each-way trip once a fortnight.  My trusty 2012 Mazda 6 2.2d at nearly 200k miles is going from trusty to rusty, so time to think about replacing it.  I average around 56mpg on the motorway, and do very little town driving.  The other car in the family is a Renault Captur, which I enjoy driving but it's not been reliable unfortunately, as it doesn't like periods of not being driven, e.g. 3 weeks between being used.
  • What to choose for long motorway trips? 16 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I’ve been dividing my mileage between two cars, my main car is a Mazda 6 diesel with the 2.2ltr 163ps engine, year 2012.  I’ve had this one since new but it’s now at 157,000 miles and showing its age.  The second car was a 2001 Peugeot 206 2.0 diesel HDi which I owned from new, and covered 100,000 miles before it succumbed to the ‘corrosion virus’ so we had to scrap it last year.
  • Mercedes-Benz B-Class, Kia Venga, Hyundai iX20 - Best used mini-MPV/compact car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
This would be a first car, so on the one hand I want something small (think a second hand Citroen C1, or Mazda 2) but cannot find anything like that with a higher driver seat, but as I also want a slightly bigger boot than the C1, I started looking at these mini-MPVs. Guess I also have to consider insurance, and am unsure which of these is better in that way.
  • Car suitable for taller driver 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
My current car is a Toyota Yaris which is limited on comfort as I drive with a small pillow for lumbar support. These cars are what I like at present: 2015 Mazda 3 2.0 Petrol Sport-Nav 2014 Audi A3 1.4 TSI Sport (Sportback) 2015 Seat Leon 1.4 TFSI FR Tech I do like the Honda CRZ but not sure on fit and comfortableness. My wife’s car is a Honda CRV Auto so wouldn’t mind an auto as long as it’s reliable and good enough for my commute.
  • Ford Fiesta Mk4 1.25 16V 1999 - Coolant temperature sensor / gauge 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Hi, my elderly mum's elderly Mk4 Fiesta (OK technically it's a Mazda 121 but same as Mk4 Fiesta) has just passed its MoT so it lives for another year. The temperature gauge is not working and stays on the minimum. I've replaved the temperature sender unit that screws into the thermostat housing (oval shaped grey 2 pin electrical plug).
  • Petrol, Reliable, Automatic, Family Car..... 27 Jan 2018 (Forum)
but I really like automatics.... The only other petrol / automatic cars I can come up with are: Mazda 6 Tourer, Suzuki Vitara, Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, Honda Civic Tourer - (However I hate the look of the Honda) What do you guys think???????
  • Multi-car insurance 29 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I haven't had the renewal quote yet, so wanted to ask what were your experiences of multi-car policies for 3 cars? Would a classic policy be better for the Mazda with a specialist provider (like all the ads I see in Practical Classics!)? Do you think 3 separate policies would work out cheaper using a comparison site, and has that been your experience? I will shop around this year (I didn't last year as my wife looked elsewhere and it was cheaper for her to stick with Aviva, so we did!)
  • Nissan Almera Tino - Old Car, New Car 15 May 2016 (Forum)
I'm looking for a petrol estate, manual tranmission. The Toyota Avensis looks appealing - but so does the Mazda 6 estate. The next car needs to get me up to my late 50s - and cope with university runs for my son (currently aged 12).   All sounds v long term - but I plan to keep the Tino until I have a nice wad of cash - probably 2.5 years and I'd like a 3 year old replacement.
  • New car for Mrs Happy Blue? 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The facelift version of the Juke, doesn't address the boot issue, so I am going to get her to look at the Honda HR-V (although she says she doesn't need a Hormone Replacement Vehicle!), Mazda CX-3 and the Audi Q3. I think I could also tempt her into another Captur, as our family seem to like the one I have.   Any other suggestions?  She wants automatic, SatNav and a reversing camera and style/image is important to her, so suggesting a Kia Venga will not go down well.......Is a Mini Countryman a sensible option?
  • Looking for a reliable 2nd hand car 19 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I am after a bit of advice from you knowledgable chaps. I am currently driving a 11 year old mazda 6 which hab been reliable enough during the last 4 years I have had it.  It's getting to the point now where it needs a bit of work (suspension, new tyres) and old cars will generally be worse for reliability I will be buying my car from BCA auctions as my father in law is a car trader.
  • Any - Narrowing down new car options 14 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I do around 17k a year which involves a daily commute to work which is 15 miles each way and a long trip 1-2 times a month Current car is a 2004 Mazda 3 2.0l Petrol. I love the car but it's not as quick as i'd like for overtaking and the sound-proofing leaves a lot to be desired on motorway cruises. Looking for a car no older than 2 years.
  • Replacing a Ford fusion 1.4 tdci, but what with ?. 31 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I am not a big fan of Fords (I consider them unreliable, solely because everyone I've had has cost me a lot of money, in comparison to any other make) and having owned several Japanese cars (no problems and more reliable than my best Ford), I have shortlisted the following; Mazda 3 1.6ts diesel, Honda Civic 1.6 petrol & 1.7 cdti (which wife has), Honda Jazz, and the Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 hdi exclusive, strangely the Citroen and in pariticular the 2.0 hdi has some excellent user reviews, I did like the look of the cmax (pity Honda don't do something similar), but it's a ford & the write up on this web site ain't great.
  • Truck of the Year!! 10 Jan 2012 (Forum)
In the past the award has gone to larger-engined vehicles such as the Ford Explorer, F-150 and Mazda CX-9. "We are honored that the all-new Range Rover Evoque has been named the 2012 North American Truck of the Year, one of the most celebrated automotive awards in our industry,” said Andy Goss, President, Jaguar Land Rover North America.
  • any - new car for wife 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Was now starting to look at newish cars (still under warranty) for local up to 50 mile daily commute plus occasional long distance dash. trying to work out how to get best crash protection in case of impact at motorway speeds and reasonable performance/economy. maximun size ceed/focus class. have already excluded new astra because of driving position for me. also, She won't have anything italian spanish or french, likes Toyota, but expensive and 30 miles to a dealer for servicing. Mazdas seem to be slightly better copies of equivalent fords, but expensive too. Astra fails because at 6'2" there is NO Room for even a child behind me! most of the time will be 2 of us but occasionally 4.
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Would you buy an ex Driving School car? 8 May 2011 (Forum)
what would be a fair price for me to pay? I only drive 5k pa, but fancy a change after 18 months with my utterly reliable Mazda 626 2.0 SE petrol...I shall only be keeping the car until mid 2010 when my fiance and I wed, when we shall then buy a convertible as a joint wedding present to ourselves, and I would hate to lose too much value in depreciation!
  • Honda Accord CTDi - buying used family car 10 Apr 2010 (Forum)
i wanted to change my car last year when we were expecting our first baby, but things didn't go the way we would had like so i just stuck to my good old Mazda 323. Now we're expecting baby once again and i want to change my car. its getting really old now and SwMbo is on my case to change my car. i've got around 7 - 8k to spend and i've shortlisted 2/3 cars. want your opinion about them.
  • Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - Car Comfort 18 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Living with it day to day is a different matter, excellent handling comes at a price it seems. It's all the worse because the other car we have is a Mazda Premacy. This may not handle anywhere near as well but driving it is like sliding your feet into comfortable old slippers. Does anyone have any advice on how to increase the ride comfort before this car inflicts any more damage on our spines?
