  • Commemorative Jaguar D-type Race at Goodwood Revival 22 Jul 2014 (News)
    It went on to win the Le Mans 24 Hour endurance race the following year with Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb driving for Jaguar’s works team.  The Scottish Ecurie Ecosse outfit added more Le Mans victories for the D-type in 1956 for Ron Flockhart and Ninian Sanderson, and in 1957 for Flockhart and Bueb.  In 1957, five of the top six finishers at Le Mans were D-types; the first four all powered by the 3.4-litre engine and the JD Hamilton car in sixth of Duncan Hamilton and Masten Gregory equipped with a 3.8-litre powerplant.  D-types have also raced before at the Goodwood Revival.

  • Two barn find Jaguars on offer at the Restoration Show 20 Mar 2014 (News)
    Both cars have interesting histories that should appeal to collectors lured by the promise of the barn find project. The Drophead coupe, VLP929 (above), is the 74th example of the 622 right hand drive cars built. During the 1980s, the car was bought by an Italian collector and exported to Sicily where it was discovered a short while ago alongside a cache of other British sports cars. It returned to the UK, where the seller abandoned plans to restore, leaving it pretty much as found.
  • Toyota announces Prius recall: 30,000 cars affected 12 Feb 2014 (News)
    The problem appears to be related to the software that controls the boost converter in the intelligent power module, part of the hybrid system’s inverter assembly. The boost converter is required when driving with a high system load, for example when accelerating hard from standstill. Toyota has said that the software setting could lead to higher thermal stress occurring in certain insulated-gate bipolar transistors in the boost converter which may lead to them deforming or being damaged.
  • Donington Historic Festival to feature anniversary Maserati race 30 Jan 2014 (News)
    This would be followed in 1927 by Maserati winning the Italian constructors' title and Alfieri’s brother Ernesto taking the Italian drivers' title. In the subsequent decades, Maserati would drive into the motorsport history books with a series of iconic models and success in Grand Prix and sportscar racing, two Indy 500 wins and victory in the 1957 Formula One World Drivers’ Championship for Fangio in the 250F.
  • All London taxis to be zero-emissions capable from 2018 17 Jan 2014 (News)
    .  To date its one Achilles heel, particularly of older models, has been the pollution generated by chugging diesel engines.  “As part of my mission to improve our air quality and drive innovation, I’m making a firm pledge to Londoners that from 2018 all taxis presented for licensing should be zero emission capable.  The cleaner, greener vehicles I’ve seen today are proof that the evolution of the great London cab is well and truly underway.”
  • Alfa Romeo takes victory in the Rally of The Tests 8 Nov 2013 (News)

  • New car sales reach five year high in September 4 Oct 2013 (News)
    September is traditionally a popular time in the UK for new car sales as it’s one of the two months when a new registration number is issued. However, recent economic growth and an improved outlook for 2014 has been attributed as a driving force behind the 19 th consecutive month of growth of sales, with buyers keen to take advantage of fuel-efficient new models.  Although the figures for September 2013 (403,136) are still short on the average before the credit crisis of 2008, it’s widely believed that UK registrations will continue to be strong for the remainder of the year.  ‘The September new car registrations figure was the highest monthly total since March 2008.
  • Mercedes-Benz R-Class withdrawn from the UK market 27 Sep 2013 (News)
    The car, which appeared in concept form as the Vision in 2002 went on sale in the UK in 2005, and after initially promising sales (especially to the chauffeur-drive market), has tailed off in recent years - leading to its demise. The super-sized MPV-cum-4x4 crossover with room for seven has become an increasingly niche choice in a luxury sector that continues to be dominated by more conventionbal saloons, as epitomised by the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Audi A8.

    . The Terraplane was assembled in the US manufacturer's British factory in Brentford, West London and has the classic 1930s styling with a 'waterfall' grille.  Also on offer will be a 2002 metallic silver all-wheel-drive Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Tiptronic, with full power roof, estimated at  £11,000-£13,000, while the very highly-spec'd 2004 Jaguar XJ8 4.2 SE (X350) looks a real bargain, estimated at £5,000-6,000.
  • Paris Motor Show 2012: SEAT debuts the new Leon 27 Sep 2012 (News)
    SEAT will show the five-door model at the Paris Motor Show, in both FR and SE trim. Sportier FR models have a retuned exhaust note and a ‘Drive Profile’ system that allows users to alter power steering and throttle response, as well as gearing in models with a DSG gearbox. Besides the five-door, the range will incorporate a three-door ‘SC’ model and an ‘ST’ estate.
  • Two XK150 Roadsters in Historics Auction Tomorrow 25 May 2012 (News)
    Two in the same auction is almost unheard of. Yet on Saturday 26th May you will have the opportunity to buy a pair. Both left hand drive. The red 1958 car in the foreground is either a standard 3.4 or an SE (probably an SE) returned to England from California in 1992, then underwent an eight year restoration by Contour Autocraft.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary, the club will drive its cars to the Transport Museum in Coventry on April 7.
