  • Longitivity of engines in Germany 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I drive a mondeo turbo diesel. When i start the car up i let the engine idle for say 10-15seconds before moving off. Give time for the oil to get around the engine/turbo etc. After a long/fast/hard run i let the engine idle for a while before switching off.
  • 306 estate tyres 18 Jul 2007 (Forum)
However, i was after michelin pilot primacy 195/55/15v but they have been superceded by the more expensive exaltos but the H rated primacys are around £77 locally The tyres i have on at the mo came with the car and have lots of tread but they are cheapo budjet tyres and i have got some motorway miles to cover. Im a firm believer in paying for what you get and am interested in the bigger brands. Ive read a review of vredestein sportact 3 of being very good but wanted some more opinions.
  • Are all laws legal 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have come across many laws around the world that are not really legal, for instance does the government have the right under a constitution to force you to buy car insurance when it doesnt supply cover of its own that is affordable for all citizens, ie schools and hospitals are offered by the government with private alternatives, can Mad Ken charge the congestion charge as this and some parking regulations may be ill legal under British or EU law or may contravene and Code of Conduct of the United Nations, We have had a case in Australia where our states were collecting fuel Tax and under the law they were not allowed to do so.

  • Peugeot 106 Clutch Cable Adjust 7 May 2007 (Forum)
I have achecked my haynes manual and it shows nuts on the end of the cable near the clutch pivot arm, mine does not have these it has some strange plastic shroud midway alond the cable behind the airbox clipped to the bulkhead. I don't know if mine is adjustable or if it's in two parts and this shroud covers some joint of some kind. It seems everytime i go to buy parts for this car i always end up with the wrong size or different looking part, do peugeot change specs evry 5 minutes or at random on their production line ?????
  • Barmy Insurance Company? 4 May 2007 (Forum)
If i bought one, paid this amount to insure me and I had an accident, is there any way of them getting out of covering me, seeing as they shouldn't be for such a little sum of money? Cheers
  • Clutch problems on Fiesta Zetec 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Yesterday the clutch on my 54 plate fiesta stopped working, you press it down and it does nothing, car is stuck in gear and can not move it. I am calling out the rac tomorrow, as I stupidly didnt have any cover so will call them out tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea what might be the problem? Have had no signs anything was wrong, apart from a couple of times in the morning, I put my foot on the clutch and it seemed to do nothing the engine just reved, lifted it back up and redid it and it worked fine.
  • A4 TDi 130PD 17 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Am I going to be hit with higher bills due to the need to replace injectors etc on a more regular basis / or just much more expensive per set than I am used to ? Can they cover the distance of the old sterotypical engine? Thanks Vern
  • Cam belt record? 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Recommended change interval is 40k miles or 5 years. Am tempted to whip the cover off and look at the condition of belt and teeth. Made me wonder though how much other BRers have exceeded cambelt design life by and got away with it?
  • Mondeo 03 water ingress 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The only clue i have, is that there is a trickle trace just on the lower part of the door just where the hing is. I contacted ford and they say water ingress is only covered in the first year of the cars life. On my service book it says the door has been treated for ingress before but there is no stamp from the dealer who carried out the repair. Thanks if you can help.
  • Voyager CRD, patchy history - do I buy? 9 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hello I'm sorely tempted by a very reasonably-priced 51-reg Voyager CRD. It's covered 62,000 miles. Service history - all at Chrysler main dealers - is as follows: 14,395 miles 30,574 miles 48,765 miles 61,946 miles With a new clutch at 55,651 miles. I'm concerned, though, that the servicing isn't all it might be.
  • Purchase Protection 2 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Just reading the Ts and Cs for my new chip and pin credit card however, and (I quote) "The following items are not covered (by purchase protection - SjB): Motorised vehicles, including but not limited to aeroplanes, cars, motorbikes, their motors, equipment and accessories." Oh well, just as well I don't currently need such a service!
  • Astra ignition timing 31 Aug 2004 (Forum)
What is the correct value for the ignition timing for the X14NZ engine? 2). Am I correct in thinking that I need to scribe a new mark on the cam-belt cover to reflect this figure (presumably 5 or 10 degrees BTDC)?
  • MGB Overdrive and pinking problem 22 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The overdrive is engaged in all gears and it kicks in wihtout moving the switch. The gearbox oil has been changed. The car only covers less than 2000 miles a year. Any advice greatly appreciated. Cheers Peter
  • Escort (CVH) compressions & spark plugs 6 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Second, any ideas why #4 plug is black (indicating rich running?) but the other three are OK? It's definitely sooty black and not oil-covered black. Thanks very much! Mark
  • paintwork and road grit 15 Nov 2003 (Forum)
With the winter salt + sand season approaching, can anyone reasure me about a phenomena I noticed last year on my 1999 peugeot boxer based camper van - at the end of the winter, the white paintwork was speckled with tiny "rust" spots - so tiny you had to gt on your hands and knees to see them. They covered the area from the mid door downwards, and I'm guessing they are the result of ferrous bits + bobs either in the grit or in the general road spray. A days T-cutting removed them, but my worries are: 1) I've never noticed this before on previous white cars. 2) If left, are these specks liable to burrow down and cause damage to the bodywork (presumably if I had a darker vehicle, I would not see them).
  • Traffic cops on BBC1 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Beat car in the ditch! Bet that cost a few cuppas and sticky buns in the canteen. As for those dozy women with kiddie in pushchair intending to walk in the dark on a pedestrian barred road from Sheffield to Doncaster!
  • Focus Terminator 18 Jun 2003 (Forum)
None of the available four-pot Zetec motors are deemed good enough, soo....they've shoe-horned a supercharged 4.6 litre V8 from the SVT Mustang Cobra under the hood, wound it up to 500bhp or so, and sent drive south to the rear wheels (straightforward job, apparently: the exhaust tunnel is already big enough to take a propshaft). Result is a car which covers the quarter mile in around 11 seconds and spins its wheels gleefully in third (no surprise: there's 500lbs/ft of torque). It's called the Terminator Focus and it's on sale to the public for $69,500 plus the donor Focus.
  • Shell Optimax Petrol 8 May 2003 (Forum)
I havent checked the figures but given my average driving style, routes and use of air con I feel that I am getting more miles from a tank in the last journey. Guess I will have to test this out more accurately, but so far I've covered over 300 miles and still have 1/4 tank remaining, whereas before I would be almost empty! Must be my imagination or just driving style has changed!!!! However I have noticed the car is quieter and smoother with the new fuel!
  • Peugeot 306 'M' reg turbo diesel. 17 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I have studied the 'laid up' sec. of FAQ's but it really doesn't fully cover my problem. My 19 yrs. old soldier grandson left his base in Germany in some haste last Feb. to go to Iraq, where he expects to stay some 6-12 months. He has left the above car standing unattended in Germany.
