Government to make E5 fuel available for classic owners 11 Mar 2020 (News)
The Government has confirmed that it will continue to make fuel containing 5% bioethanol available for owners of historic vehicles. It’s good news for classic car owners, who feared that they would be forced to use fuel containing 10% bioethanol, which can be harmful to older vehicles. The news comes after Ministers announced plans to introduce E10 at all pumps in a in a bid to meet its tough environmental targets. -
Fuel prices set to increase as Brexit hits sterling 29 Jun 2016 (News)
The RAC has said the impact on fuel prices is not as bad as first feared, following Britain’s vote to leave the European Union. “Despite the dramatic fall in the strength of the pound in the aftermath of Britain’s referendum vote to leave the European Union there has not been as big an effect on wholesale fuel prices as might have been expected,” commented RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams. -

Sainsbury’s to open a hydrogen fuel station 29 Oct 2014 (News)
The only by-produce of a hydrogen fuel cell car is water, and proponents argue that hydrogen reduces so-called ‘range anxiety’ because hydrogen cars can be re-fuelled in the same way a petrol or diesel car can. However, hydrogen is often produced using fossil fuels, denting its ‘well-to-wheel’ CO2 efficiency, and is problematic to store, requiring a pressurised fuel tank. -
Credit crunch 'leading to interest in alternative fuels' 15 Jul 2008 (News)
Rising fuel prices and the onset of the credit crunch have lead to an increase in interest in alternative fuels, an automotive body has claimed. British Car Auctions (BCA) has remarked that while the public is still struggling to get to grips with green issues, the recent state of the economy has lead to a rise in the popularity of eco-friendly models. -
Fuel duty petition launched by motor publication 7 Jul 2008 (News)
A petition against the rising price of fuel duty in the UK has been announced. The protest has been organised by What Car? magazine, which has claimed that some £9 billion was spent on the tax during June 2008. It stated that this is an increase of around £2 billion on the amount recorded over the same month in 2007. -

Opec deal could push up fuel prices by 9p-per-litre 1 Dec 2016 (News)
Motorists are facing a jump in fuel prices after OPEC countries agreed a cut in the global production of oil. The deal could see 9p added to a litre of fuel, with oil prices on course to reach $60 a barrel before the end of 2016. The surge in oil prices will add an average of £5 to the cost of filling up a family car and a peak of $60 a barrel would result in a 9p-per-litre increase at the forecourts, according to the AA. -

UK motorists will continue to bear the costs of misleading official fuel economy figures, after it emerged that the Brexit vote has cast doubt on EU plans to introduce a new, more realistic test by 2017, HonestJohn.co.uk has found. Motorists face further years of confusion over fuel economy figures after the Government refused to commit to EU plans to implement a new fuel and emissions test by late 2017. The news comes as HonestJohn.co.uk analysis shows that the gap between advertised and Real MPG economy is at its widest ever, with fewer than two out of every 10 cars achieving their advertised MPG. -

Fuel prices are on course to drop below £1-a-litre in time for Christmas, after three of Britain's largest supermarkets slashed 2p off a litre of petrol and diesel. Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's will pass on the forecourt cuts on 9 December - bringing the average cost of unleaded down to 101p and diesel to 104p. -
