A mysterious problem - BMW 25 Nov 2006 (Forum)

Reliability Index - false information? 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Those of you who have not seen the reliability index http://www.reliabilityindex.co.uk/ Basically it is a system where every car is scored on its reliability, average mileage and age to breakdown, average cost of repair and average time to repair. The car is then given a Reliability Index score and then the cars are ranked (top 10, top 100, worst 10 etc) Obviously this is good for manufacturers who apear at the top (free advertising) and bad for manufacturers that apear at the bottom (bad press) Now what if the reliability index was a load of cobblers and doesn't bear any resemblence to how reliable the car is? -

Civics with wet boots? 9 Feb 2004 (Forum)
"Apparently, the body retains rainwater around the hatchback so if the hatch is opened after the car has been standing in a shower the retained water cascades into the boot." So says HJ's car-by-car breakdown for the latest Honda Civic. Any of you backroomers encountered this problem? And if so does it affect 2-dr models as badly as 5-dr? -

No Ariel Atom in CBC 19 May 2009 (Forum)
Thought I'd see what HJ has to say about these cars - which I believe are road legal - but strangely they don't appear in the CBC breakdown. Little mention of the company or the Atom in the forums either. Looking at the Ariel website, seems company has links, via some well respected cars and motorbikes, back to the Penny farthing of 1870. -

Buying a Vel Satis 31 Oct 2004 (Forum)
We're talking 3.5 V6 Initiale for about 20 000 Euro in Germany, 2-years old. HJ's Car-by-Car Breakdown says it's: "A very different driving experience from almost anything else. Curiously un-carlike to drive, but not unpleasant." Hmmm... I'm scheduled for a test drive on Saturday. -
Freelander TD4 8 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The wife has set her heart on a Freelander TD4, brand new. Now I know Freelanders have had a variable reputation but is that in the past? The car-by-car Breakdown paints a rather bleak picture but I was wondering if a new one would be OK. Has anyone had experience of the new facelifted Freelander, especially the TD4 BMW engine? -
Rover 200 1.1 7 Jan 2002 (Forum)
A colleague is considering buying one of these - in the car by car breakdown it says that this engine is not a good performer for its size. What are we talking about here ? Real snail's pace, unacceptable noisy at motorway speed ? He's replacing an elderly 309 diesel so he's hardly used to the highest level of refinement. -

Pajero|shogun experince wanted 24 Mar 2004 (Forum)
My wife is considering a used Pajero around the £4-£5000 mark. I was surprised at the MPG figure on the Car byCar Breakdown pages (22MPG for the diesel) Anyone got any experience of running an older import ( around the 93K year\reg), good or bad? Thanks in advance. -
E320 Yes. Mondeo V6 NO 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have bought......and I await criticism, cos I have already had it from all quarters........A 97 'P' Mercedes E320 Auto. I downloaded all of the bumpf from car by car breakdown and I told myself and SWMBO that I would not buy for many reasons, all listed in cxc breakdown.. Only going to see it as my mate had arranged it. Honest to God! Well.......Got there and I looked and I looked and I struggled to find a fault. 54K. -
VW passat 22 Dec 2002 (Forum)

Cambelt prices 309 13 May 2002 (Forum)
Halfords Southport say £87 before AA discount. I've read about tensioners. What parts are Halfords likely to recommend changing? And in the Car by Car breakdown HJ recommends changing 'cambelt end seals.' What are these and are they important? The car's done 75k. Cheers -
Mazda 323 - Battery not working then works 28 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Went out for short trip this evening, stopped car and left lights on max 5 mins, went to start car and it would not start so called out breakdown services. Tried car 30 mins latter and it restarted, would could of caused this? Car is used for short journeys as second car covering around 1600 miles per annum, maybe this could be a factor. -

Uk spec vehicle which they claim came direct from Renault BUT.... when I ask about the 3 year Renault Assistance breakdown cover that comes with all new Scenics they are claiming this will only apply to cars bought from a main dealer.
