  After the 30 seconds from starting, the car runs and performs perfectly. To note, I cleaned and blanked the egr a few months back, the fuel filter is changed every year (last in december) I use super (non supermarket) diesel, the cam sensor has already been changed and the glow plugs are only about a year old.   Anyone have any ideas????

  Although in many ways a better drive than the Lexuses I'm really struggling with just how noisy it is at idle and low revs - especially (but not only) when cold.  It sounds like a diesel and I HATE the sound of diesel engines. It went to the dealer a few months ago after the amber engine warning light came on and they replaced the ignition coil and spark plugs. It was OK for a while but has since got noisier and noisier.

  Any other suggestions...my criteria are M/L hatch/estate, 30mpg + in combined driving,excellent reliability and decent handling, petrol or diesel. Image not necessary! Perhaps a Mondeo 2.5 V6, late model petrol Astra estate, old style Primera 2.0 Sport (if I could find a good un) some kind of Focus?? Any suggestions please...petrol model will presumably be cheaper to repair if anything goes wrong, and I am a bit wary of high mileage TDCi diesels...perhaps unnecessarily so.

  Hello to all,this is the first time I have posted on this site so you will have to bear with me,I hope you can help me in my quest to sort out the problem with my Rover Diesel. My problem is this,when you are accelerating it suddenly dies,as if you have turned the ignition off,it can be in any gear,if I take my foot off the accelerator and put it back on the power comes back,when it does it if you press the pedal down further it just keeps dieing until you raise the pedal and depress it again then it runs fine again.It ticks over fine.

  I also started to hear a horrendous noise from the engine and severe power loss, no warning lights (the best way to describe it would be that when I reved the engine it sounded like a diesel truck rather than a car..diesel engine noise x5) then after ten miles it just stopped. I asked some mechanic friends and they said at a guess it was bad fuel clogging the injector and the engine was flooded and must have blown it out.Which made sense as on Tuesday the car was jumping all over the place after filling up with petrol the night before.

  I do not want an estate car or a diesel engine. I have been looking at another Ford Focus from the year 2015 but the Eco boost engines have had such a bed press and so has the powershift (I would prefer an auto over a manual). Vauxhall Astra seem to rate so badly in reviews.

  hi , iv had problems for the last few months with the service light coming on and restricting the car to 2500 rpm, i had the codes read and found out it was the egr valve and a glow error,, the guy told me 8 times out of ten you can clean it and armed with that i gave it ago , iv cleaned the egr valve best i could using carb cleaner , while i was at it i cleaned what i think is the inlet manifold? where the egr valve connects,i had to undo the fuel lines/injectors to get this off for cleaning.. anyway iv put it all back together and now the car just will not start iv tried to blead it but the injectors are a night mare to get to and i managed to get one off theres barely any diesel coming through any one got any ideas whats gone wrong?

  There's no problem in 1st gear, but occasionally in 2nd, and around 50% of the time in the higher gears, the car pinks at around 2,800-4,000 rpm. It feels as though the injector or fuel line is starving the engine of diesel for a split-second, similar to the effect of a faulty lumbar sensor. It makes the car jerk about 4-8 times, then it rectifies itself at around 4k rpm. (It's a similar sensation to hitting the brakes for a split-second when speeding up.)
