Potentially Expensive MoT Problem with LED DRLs 2 Jul 2011 (News)
"Even then, most will be fitted with LED model specific lighting systems such as the LED 'eyebrow' effect of the Audi and LED circle around the front side lights on the latest Land Rover and Range Rovers." "These units, as we see it, will be sealed in manufacture so if an LED light was to fail, it will almost certainly be impossible to just replace the bulb. -

1954 Austin Healey 5.7 V8 in Historics 2nd March Classic Car Auction 25 Feb 2019 (News)
Shelby didn't have time to hang around waiting for a decision by Herbert Austin, so called on AC cars instead. And, due to the awkward installation of the distributor at the rear of small block Chevrolet 350 V8s, he went for the lighter Ford 289 V8 instead. Nevertheless, Healey Chevrolets were often seen at British speed hillclimbs in the 1960s, sometimes jacked up between runs while their owners changed the spark plugs via the front wheelarches (they wouldn't have had that problem with a Chrysler hemi). -
1929 Bentley 4.5 in Historics 6th June Auction 19 May 2015 (News)
1939 Fords were big news in January when the late Boyd Coddington's customised versions made megabucks in Barratt Jackson's Scottsdale Arizona auction. This car runs a 359 inch Chevy putting out between 350 and 400 horsepower through a 350 automatic with Lokar shift. Instead of a transverse leaf it has custom independent front suspension with Mustang disc brakes and a heavy duty 9" Ford diff. -
Toyota to Challenge Audi at Le Mans This Saturday and Sunday 15 Jun 2012 (News)
The test day gave us plenty of encouragement and we have to continue in this direction in order to be well prepared for the race. I am a positive and realistic guy; I hope we will have the car to fight at the front but I also know that 2012 is our first year so we have many things to learn.” Action began on Wednesday 13 June with practice (4 to 8pm local time) and first qualifying (10pm to midnight) followed on the following day by second qualifying (7 to 9pm) and final qualifying (10pm to midnight). -
Bargains Bought, Despite Auction Frenzy Today 21 Sep 2005 (News)
But too many buyers, trade and public alike, continue to persist in propping up ‘status’ cars like Golfs. £8,700 for a 3 year old 42k mile 2002/52 Golf TDI PD 130 can only be justified because the market still regards it as a car that will make them look better than being seen driving a Ford. -
Big Stuff at Blackbushe Today 23 Jan 2004 (News)
I figure there may be a bit of levelling out taking place over the next few weeks, so while Monday’s Top Car sale will contain quite a few cars owned by traders taking a chance, if they don’t get some sort of return by the end of the day they could let their last cars go at a loss. And, of course, there will also be plenty of fresh cars in the sale, so well worth a visit. -
Plenty of Variety at BCA Classic Auction 12 Feb 2002 (News)
BCA's Classic Sale yesterday proved well worth going to, especially if you'd spotted the ad in Saturday's Telegraph which entitled you to a free catalogue and entry for two. And there were some unusual cars, such as the well-used 1957 BMW 502 V8 in the photo. This one bore all the signs of having been stored in the open, including green moss and massive rust bubbles in the front wings. But it wasn't just a runner, it was a daily driver and the engine started with a nice V8 burble. -

The Volvo XC60 and XC70, in their new front-wheel drive guise and mated to the new 2.4D engine, offer emissions of just 159 g/km and fuel consumption up to 47.1 mpg. -

Jargon Buster: Van insurance 5 Jun 2017 (News)
It typically includes the cost of repairs to the vehicle even if you’ve caused the damage. Things like windscreen, medical, replacement vehicle and legal cover are sometimes included but not always, so check before you buy. Value – insurers often ask for a vehicle’s estimated value to help calculate the cost of the policy and it’s best to be honest, so if you’ve just bought it, tell them the purchase price. -

Jaguar reveals electric E-type 7 Sep 2017 (News)
Using an electric powertrain with similar weight and dimensions to the outgoing petrol engine and transmission means the car’s structure, including suspension and brakes, has not changed, simplifying the conversion and homologation. It drives, handles, rides and brakes like an original E-type. Front-rear weight distribution is unchanged. -
1972 Toyota Crown Custom returned to the road 20 Feb 2017 (News)
So the Crown was parked in the garage lot while they decided what to do with it. That's when classic vehicle enthusiast Robin Shepherd saw the car. He was on his usual commute when he spotted the Crown within a stone’s throw of his workplace. Stunned by its looks and recognising that it’s not every day you see one of these models, he stopped off to learn more. -

Despite being a mobile mechanic Joe started to receive positive reviews on the Good Garage Guide – one customer said “I booked a service (very reasonable) a couple of months later, and not only did Joe come and collect/drop off the car, he fixed the sticking window at no cost.” Following several years working as a mobile specialist Joe recently set up in a premises near Tattenham Corner railway station on the Epsom Downs. -
£50 BMW at Auction Today 7 May 2004 (News)
Sorry to give you such a jumbled report but that was the nature of today’s sale. Hard to categorise anything. Upcoming, It’s Top Car again on Monday 10th May, together with a Black Horse Finance executive selection, Lex and Leaseplan fleet sales in Hall 2 and plenty of part-exchanges in Hall 3. As always the best way to look for a specific car coming up at auction or to pre-check a day’s sale is to visit
Another Yaris Makes Top Money at Auction 26 Oct 2001 (News)
Even Skodas are shifting for the right money, but then a silver 2000W 32,000 mile Octavia 2.0 GLXi automatic estate for £7,050 looks like a lot of VAG car for the money. Last, but not least, £6,300 bid for a 24,000 mile Radiant red Focus 1.8 Zetec with climate pack looked low, but not for this car. It had taken a fair old whack to the front offside and the visible marks could well be hiding more serious damage.

In the MG Trophy Championship, Ross Makar claimed victory and driver of the race in the first outing, despite the race ending early due to a red flag after three cars left the circuit at different positions simultaneously. Jason Burgess won the second race despite another red flag at the beginning after an 11-car crash, pipping race one winner Makar to the finish line a cars length.
DTV Vauxhall Firenza Magnum heads to auction 18 Feb 2016 (News)
On twin Weber DCOE 48 carburettors and a relatively mild camshaft, the latter fitted for endurance racing, the 2.3-litre engine produces 172bhp at the rear wheels (204bhp at the flywheel). The gearbox is a five-speed Getrag. The interior boasts Sparco front seats, while the original instruments are supplemented by a Stack array. When the car returned to the racetrack in February 2006 for the Vintage Sports Car Club's Pomeroy Trophy at Silverstone, it was issued with the same competitor number (56) that it had carried at Spa back in 1977.
Happy Birthday: Hyundai Pony 22 Dec 2015 (News)
Love it or loathe it, the influence of the Hyundai Pony on the global car industry is huge. With Korean cars now making up almost 10 per cent of the European and USA car markets, it’s difficult to put into perspective the scale of growth during four decades, especially when you look back at the car that started it all.
