When the default answer doesn’t fit 8 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Better if it is non-turbo too but that isn't a deal breaker and MPG should be reasonably good.” To which HJ answered by telling them to buy a Mazda CX-3 auto or a Honda Jazz 1.5 neither of which would be a sensible taxi or qualify with any local authority I know of. Odd reply I thought. I’d’ve pointed them towards a nearly new Toyota Auris Hybrid Estate which is proving very popular as a taxi thanks to its proven running gear and economy. -

RE: 'Reduced circumstance' and 'Gearsick' I'm surprised, given he likes and recommends it, that HJ didn't recommend the Mazda CX-3 2.0 petrol SE-L Nav Auto for these people - a decent drive, ride comfort is fine on the 205/60 R16 tyres and the seating position is raised compared to the 2 and 3 - essentially a small CX-5 with a very nice auto box for the petrol engine. -
Bad Carma 23 Apr 2017 (Forum)
GR from Penketh (page 1) may care to note that only the top-of-the-range Sport model is affected - the BOSE sub-woofer in part of the under-boot space reduces the overall boot space considerably (see Car-by-Car section), but apparently all models can take a space saver spare, though at a ridiculous cost of £395 (from Mazda) for the wheel, tyre and special holder inside the wheel for the existing garb (presumably except the tube of gunk) that went in the location now taken by the spare. Sadly the same across the whole range, where space-saver spares are only an option (not sure about the MX-5 though). -
VW Scirocco 2011 1.4 TSI - scirocco repair costs through insurance 8 Aug 2016 (Forum)
There was a small bit of cosmetic damage to the bumper however it was classed as a write off - uneconomical to repair. I'm aware that the value of my Scirocco is a lot more than my Mazda however I assume that the bodywork required to fix this could be quite extensive and i'm very very worried that she might be taken to the garage later in the week and i'll never see her again. Is anyone on here familiar with bodywork and the potential costs of having this fixed? -
? - What family car 18 May 2016 (Forum)
Ideally we are looking for something that will give us at least 40 mpg and have a bit of ground ( i do a lot of hillwalking and drive on forest roads) clearance as well as a decent boot and plenty of leg room, also one that has a goid reliability and safety rating. So far i have come up with an asx, mazda 6 estate and the quashqai, i was just wondering if there is anything else i should take into considoration? Cheers -
To diesel or not to diesel, that is the question 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
My Mileage is about to increase from around 10k a year to around 18k. At the moment I drive a 10 year old 2.0l petrol mazda 3 and on a long motorway drive I get around 38mpg @ 80mph yet my friends and colleagues that have a German diesel of similar capacity seem to get 50-55mpg. -
Infiniti Ex30d - Manufactrers Warranty 15 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hi all Just bought a 2011 Infiniti Ex30d in great condition......apart from the alloys are "bubbling" I've had this problem before with Mazda and Lexus, anyway the Infiniti still has the original warranty to the 12th June. I checked with the previous owner who said he hadn't even noticed. I have booked the car into Infiniti Reading for an outstanding warranty issue and at the same time I brought up the alloy issue which wasn't exactly met with any enthusiasm, I was told that it was unusual and that if anything had been done to the alloys there would be no question of warranty work. -
Cleaning alloy wheels 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Cleaning with soapy water hasn't been too effective in the past and I am loathe to use "alloy wheel cleaner" as they can often be too harsh (especially as the alloys are rather brittle mazda ones). After washing the car, I topped up the fluids and thought I would clean the plastics over the engine with one of those "miracle sponges". As I did so, i thought, will it work on the alloys? -
Vauxhall Zafira B - Useless tyre repair kit 12 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Having read HJ's experience with a puncture in his Mazda 6, I was reminded of my episode with "glop" and a compressor. My Zafira SRi came with stupid 225/40 18 tyres, no spare, but a can of "glop" and a compressor. I damaged a sidewall in France, and, of course, the "glop" had no chance of sealing it. -
Large Family Estate Recommendations 16 May 2013 (Forum)
I'd like the car to handle well and not be too sluggish as I'm currently driving a 03 Mondeo hatch 2L 136PSI TDCi I'd ideally like to buy 2 to 3 years old with max of 60,000 on the clock. I was looking at either a Mazda 6 or Mondeo diesel but I'm concerned about the DPF. Although I do around 12,000 miles per year. My daily commute is only 4.5 miles extended to 9 miles if a school/nursery drop off is involved. Am I right to be concerned about likely DPF problems. -
Any - LPG or Diesel 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Thinking of 08/09 plates in: Honda Accord / Mazda 6 / Maybe a BMW 3 / Audi A4 Obvious choice is Diesel, but after reading about numerous problems with DPF's and the costs associated in fixing I am put off with it all. -
Suzuki SX4 v Swift - Which car? 1 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Having both cars next to each other, yes there was a difference in height but not as much as I had expected. Bringing in two other cars, the last year 2008 of the Mazda 3 hatch/ saloon and the same year 2008 Renault Megane Saloon, together with the SX4 (and perhaps the Swift as well) how would you compare these three (four) cars as cars, not considering the difference in age, and what would be your preference? -
Any - Beware newer 'fully synthetics' with older engines 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Any new oil which carried API spec only has 400 ppm of ZDDP, older oils or those not speeced to API should be fine It comes from a question I asked castrol asking why they recommended magnatec 5w30 as opposed to edge 5w30 for my mazda. They were quite honest and told me to stick to higher ZDDP oils to prevent cam wear. This may be old info to some but it was news to me, so may help another! -
Frightening yourself 18 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I ask because the rain is hammering down here and I have been whizzing round in the Celica this morning and experienced a little...ahem...sideways velocity when taking a roundabout. The Mazda doesn't do this and I had to try very hard to make my previous car 'slip' as well. I didn't frighten myself so much as Mr Bobbin. I wasn't afraid of driving in the snow over these past bad winters; it's just another condition to tackle, and rain doesn't bother me, but I did once petrify myself taking the M56-M53 sliproad far too quickly (never driven it before, been driving about 2 months, did not know it was that big a curve!!) -
How many miles can you squeeze from 1 tank? 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I'd be particularly interested to hear from focus owners as I kinda wish I'd gone that route instead of the Mazda I have to say :( -
Motoring 'agony aunt' advice required 1 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have been told, by 'someone who thought you ought to know' that my son's new mother-in-law owns a Mazda Bongo Friendee. I questioned my son closely when he told me he planned to marry, but apparently he thought it better that this fact was kept from me. Luckily, I am happily settled in France, 500 miles from any potential face-to-face embarrassment, so I don't feel the need to emigrate. -
Honda Civic UK (2001 - 2005) - High servicing costs ? 20 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I've checked the service schedule and there is no obvious reason for the high cost - it just looks like a typical oil/filter service to me, which used to cost me around £130 for my Ford Focus and around £160 currently for my Mazda 6. Any comments, thoughts or experiences on the servicing cost of Civics would be appreciated - thanks ! -
Should she get rid of the Nissan? If so, what for. 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
If not, what to replace it with. She likes the way it drives, so I have half suggested she looks at a Focus or a Mazda 3. The Almera's done 100k. Personally I reckon its got life left in it for a couple of more years, especially as I'd have to lend her the cash for whatever replaces it. The Nissan was £3.5k 6 years ago so its done pretty well. -
Reliable and sporting for £4k? 27 May 2009 (Forum)
18 months ago I bought a 2.0 Mazda 626 SE as a short term measure for £995. £600 later...4 new Michelins, belt change & servicing, it is still ultra reliable but I am getting restless. My future DIL needs something better for her 80 mile motorway commute so I am tempted to let her have it cheap...it is a known quantity...she currently runs a tired '96 1.2 Clio. -
Changing my car, but which one? 23 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I currently have a Mazda RX-8, which I bought in May last year. Love it, fantastic car! The problem is, 3 weeks ago I've gone from working 12miles from my home to about 75! I'm getting expensed, which just about covers the cost of the fuel/oil but I don't think the RX-8 is the kind of car you put 500 miles/week on and run into the ground.
