  My friend, without realising it, inadvertantly put petrol into her diesel car.  After 10 miles it was not running properly. She called the RAC.  The RAC man came to look at the car and said it was a fuel pump problem and that she should drive it to the VW dealer 12 miles away.

  As the title suggests, has anyone here sold their car at some ridiculously low price either privately or as a part-ex in a panic to offload it due to rising fuel costs and car tax debacle? Would anyone also admit to failing into the trap of "must have small diesel hatchback at all costs" or such like?. This applies especially if what you save in future fuel costs/road tax has been disproportionately offset by a large cost-to-change on such a vehicle and/or having to buy something older.

  Now as the car hasnt started when I withdraw the glowplug would I be correct in assuming that I should be able to see diesel on the glowplug, but at the mo they are dry, could this mean that I am not getting fuel through to the combustion chamber? If so any advice? Many thanks Danny

  All new cars are optimised and calibrated for the ECDC economy and CO2 lab tests on the highest grade fuels available, which are usually Shell V-Power Nitro Plus petrol and diesel. Consequently, if you use an inferior fuel, the performance of the engine and its fuel economy and emissions will be inferior   Is HJ correct?

  I have just purchased a 2013 Merc A class 1.8 CDI with 30,000 and full Merc service history. Car drives great but I find the engine noisy for a diesel. It doesnt sound like there anything sinister. Just sounds like a noisy diesel. Is this the norm for these engines? I have read about faulty fuel injectors could be a potential cause.

I like Toyota cars for their reliability and consider the Verso or Corolla suitable for my needs, the Verso has lots more room inside.   Focus TDCI 1.8 turbo diesel(2003) Car not near as powerfull as it used to be and putting out a lot of black smoke even at low revs, car quite sore on fuel. Have checked the K and N air filter and it is clean car burning a small amount of engine oil but very little!

  What's all this about? I have a diesel and am dersperate to know whats going on with this cooking oil thing. Is it totally legal? Is it a new liable fuel for the future? How on earth can cooking oil be combustable, i now diesel isn't that combustable but at least its part of the fractional distilation process!!!

  The engine does not appear to have a flat spot as this fault seems to occur at any rev setting except idle. The fault seems to be more apparent in cold weather. I use shell diesel but have also used BP Ultimate and ussually use millers diesel plus. The fuel filter has been replaced and there has never been any water visible in the fuel filter housing when replacing the filter.
