  • Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSi S - Replacing my Mondeo 1 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I was generally happy with the car though it had a few problems other than wear items - fuel pump, two springs, other suspension parts, wheel bearings, HT leads, rear calipers.  But for an 11 year old car owned for 8 years not too bad. I only do 7000 miles a year so I'm thinking petrol. I like a big boot for carrying bikes, washing machines and other large things.
  • Asda parking fine 4 Jul 2013 (Forum)
I had not been out for over six weeks so had to do shopping being disabled means it takes me much longer than most as i have to rest every 10/15 minutes as i become dizzy weak and disorianted if i don't rest which leads to passing out or vomiting . I do have receipts from asda just prior to ticket time store was very busy not many tills open which added extra minutes on as well as my slowness with walking and movement.
  • Car insurance miscalculated, want me to pay more 28 Nov 2012 (Forum)
When I called back to find out what was happening they said they had added £64 to my premium as it was undercalculated due to me not telling them about this accident. They said failure to pay would lead to cancellation of my insurance. Now, I'm not sure how they didn't have this information as I sent them my no claims proof letter from last insurance company and I clearly am not withholding information as I called up to ask why this was saying 5 years when my accident with 2008.
  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - Loosing power, noisy engine 21 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Should this occur, the engine may stall or fail to start. The condition may also result in the camshaft turning in a non-uniform fashion, which could lead to the failure of the vacuum pump drive, and a reduction in braking assistance. Launch Date: 23 June 2004 My vin number is not listed. It is a 2004 1.5s first registered june 2004. Could this be the cause?
  • 53 Plate Honda Civic 1.7 cdti (manual) - Honda Civic Woe's; Starting & How to tow ? 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'm no mechanic but given the noise she heard, the lack of a clear click and the apparent abundance of power, would I be right in thinking that it might be either the starter motor or solenoid ?. This leads me onto my next question; my ford  fusion has 2 very clear towing points, one under the rear bumper and a hidden recess in the front bumper, which is under a small removable cover.  The civic has the usual rear towing eye/hoop but I cannot see any towing point at the front, does anyone know where the towing point is please ?.
  • vw golf mk6 gt 1.4 tsi 160 - VW warranty repair 21 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I got it straight into the dealer so did not get the bore damage that others have suffered. This leads to my dilema, because unlike the others I did not get a new engine. First thing to say is that the dealership were great and supplied me a loan car throughout. However, they were following the VW fault diagnosis proceedure (which is fair enough as VW were paying) but did take rather a long time to fix the problem as they changed the cylinder head first.

  • Citroen ZX 1.9D 1997 (Non Turbo) - Changing Bendix Calliper on a Citroen ZX 1.9D 1997 20 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I have had very spongy brakes on the old ZX with a juddering motion comming form the front nearside, which after some reading leads me to believe that this caliper is sticking and causing the brake fluid to travel back up the pipe, hence the juddering, does this sound like a reasonalbe diagnosis? Any way I tried to initially bleed the brakeds to get rid of some of this spongy brake pedal and you've guessed it, even after soaking the nipples with WD, have managed to snap both of them off!
  • InsCo encouraging Fraud after No Fault Accident? 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
When she calmed down we exchanged details and drove slowly to next services to examine damage.   (We were both insured by the same ‘market leading’ insurance company, and I was relieved and pleasantly surprised when they confirmed that the third party had admitted liability and they were going to treat it as a no-fault accident.)   Imagine my surprise when I get a call no more than 48 hours after the accident from someone saying: ‘I understand you were involved in a no-fault car accident and have a whiplash injury.
  • Volvo 240/260 - car just dead, driving smooth, then lambda sond on 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Basically, my car runs smoothly, sometimes problems with wet start but runs at the end. All electrics renewed: distributer cap, leads, plugs, bobine. But driving around sometimes the car just stops! Then the lambda sond turns on and after a couple of minutes being dead, we can start the car again: it runs smooth again but we never know when it will happen again ...... after one hour, a day, a couple of days or even a week?
  • Nissan Almera N16 (2003) - Nissan Almera Brake Problems? 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Indeed i find that as the wheels turn, the groan goes from quiet to audible.  This leads me to believe the following potential culprits:   Warped brake discs Possibly early signs of failing bearings (although this would get louder as the car goes faster)   Discs were replaced 45k miles ago along with new pads.
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 99 1.0 Starting problem, is now stalling problem 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My K11 would not start mid december, called out a "mechanic" who diagnosed the coil was away. He changed (or said he did) the HT leads, rotar arm, dizzy cap, spark plugs and coil. Whatever he did, the car then started. However, I now have a new problem. The car will run for 5 mins, then begins to stutter, kangaroo and completely cuts out, this can happen doing 60mph on the duel carriageway.
  • Campervan - Help please 31 Oct 2009 (Forum)
We thought that the Fiat Ducatto (Tribute, Adria or Timberland) seemed a good option but have since found forums that slate the Fiat terribly. Reverse gear ratio leading to burnt-out clutches, gearbox problems etc seem not uncommon. We are noticing vans of about the right size such as Mercedes Sprinter and long wheel base VW?s but these don?t seem to be converted ?
  • Blue flashing lights 29 May 2009 (Forum)
Had I braked, even slightly, a collision would have been inevitable. There was no pavement on the side of the road leading to Dooley Lane, so nowhere for me to pull in out of the way. Eventually, at the Dooley Lane traffic lights, I managed to pull to the nearside (my journey required me to turn right at this point, but that would have been dangerous with the Police car where it was).

  • Vauxhall Tigra (1994 - 2000) - 98 1.4 Engine Problem 15 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I had the car in my local garage who is usually pretty good, but he cannot get to the bottom of it., he has serviced the car changed spark plugs the ht leads and the last thing was he changed the exhaust return control valve, all to no avail. I would be grateful if anyone with any help could give some advice.
  • Mazda MX5 (1989 - 1998) - 92 1.6 engine dies when de-clutched 11 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I took the car back to the garage that did the cam belt, they did not think it was related to the engine cutting out and suggested replacing the spark plugs and HT leads which was done. They also said that the failure to restart may be something to do with the starter motor ie two different problems. For a few miles the car was fine but now the engine cutting out when de-clutched has started again and I have had one experience of the reluctance to start.
  • Renault Safrane (1992 - 2000) - 1995 2.2vi overfuelling/rough running on start 10 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Otherwise it may have to be an exchange ECU, although the engine runs fine most of the time, and if it has started to run smoothly it does so for the whole trip. Could this be ignition lead related? It seems to happen more in the Autumn and Winter. I have tried Renault main dealer for diagnostics, but been told their latest kit isn't compatible with the Safrane, and they don't have staff who can remember much about the engine management system.
  • Is this a joke? Well I don't find it funny. 21 Sep 2008 (Forum)
This is the genuine wording from a genuine advert on the Autotrader advertising a vehicle for sale, I won't give the make model year as that would lead you straight to the advertisement and could be seen as naming and shaming. The car is advertised at £1,499 by the way which is about £200 more than its worth. 'No best price No final price don't phone up and make an offer saying ah very high mileage too dear i have to travel very long way I'm not bothered where you live its not my problem best price for me my friend I'm not your friend I'm here to sell cars not pretend to be your friend in fact i probably wont even like you i just want your money and never see you again bring enough cash not your cousins brothers aunties uncles nephews sisters friends credit card details don't say all Ive got is £1450 please do it for me my friend again I'm not your friend why do i want to give you it cheaper i don't even know you you will be chased and have very long drive back to very long way away from where you've just come saying you cannot do that yes we can its our car we can.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 zetec misfire/power loss - Help please! 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I've been advised by a friend of mine that it is likely a fault on the fuel line and could be the HT leads, coilpack or injectors. I'm getting no engine warning lights on at any point, and the car runs alright(ish) at the minute, but I am sure it is just a matter of time before it gives up on me again.
