  Restarted fine though. Sounds like an even bigger bag of spanners now though. Oil light came on and the battery light has been flickering on off for a few days. Im no mechanic, accelerator pedal isnt sticking, battery terminals all secure. Sounds like a possible sensor issue... Finding a garage with a diag machine for an LDV is proving difficult.

  Idleing fine but the same problem. Any push on the gas pedal it just cuts out. Update. Disconnected battery and left for 10 mins. Started engine back up and now it seem if its not running on all cylinders. Update. Have checked sensors and sprayed with wd40. Now cuts out straight away after starting. Also battery seems to have drained.

  When this fault appears, you can start the car, the flashing stops, and the car can be driven, although sometimes the cruise control does not work. The only way to stop the flashing indicators when parked though is to disconnect the battery. If left overnight, and the battery reconnected, the problem usually clears, and may not reappear for several months.. But this latest time it has stayed in fault. The electrics are obviuosly getting their 'knickers in a twist' due to wiring, connection or electronic controller.

  Heard some clicking which sounded like a relay flicking from near the ignition and also the box next to the battery. Can anyone shed any light on this? It was very wet today, so I was wondering if damp has got into the electrics? Many thanks

  I rechecked all the levels the next morning and looked for anything obvious and could not find anything. I also disconnected the battery (for about 30 seconds) to try and reset the system but only succeeded in erasing the memory on the radio. Do I need to disconnect the battery for longer? Is the fault related to the long drive (such as something dislodged and blocking a sensor)?

  Ended up removing the fence panel from neighbour's side. Opened the bonnet, put her on charge and went and got another battery....original only 3 yrs old. What a kerfuffle ! Ted

  Our car had a new key with integrated (2 button) fob provided and coded by a Citroen dealer approx 18 months ago as the original was lost. The fob has recently stopped working and I fear I may have dropped a clanger by taking the battery out of the fob overnight to take with me as a sample for a replacement - hence possibly having lost the coding as the fob will not work with the new battery in?. I was in the motor trade a few years ago and seem to remember various combinations of pressing fob buttons and switching the ignition on/off used to be how you enabled the fob but am not having any success.

  When ever I have tested an alternator the output has always read about 14-15v and I remember my dads Lada always used to read 16v (the bulbs were always blowing on it) now either my meter must be well out or cars must run on more than 12v. Why is this? I realise the battery is a 12v DC battery so all the electrics are rated at 12v, so howcome the altnerators always tend to read more? I thought the output was supposed to be heavily regulated unlike the old dynamos. I am right in thinking things like the ECU have further regulation to ensure it has exactly the correct voltage?

  Hi, I have a peugeot 306 2001, 1.6 meridian. The other day I put new battery in, took it for a spin but the positive terminal was loose so it brought up the ECU light as it juddered for a few moments. I reconnected pos terminal and car runs no problem I've tried disconnecting battery for 10 mins and reconnecting but the light stays on.

  Has been very reliable on cold mornings too. Yet, when came to start it yesterday, was trying to turn over but couldnt manage it. Battery seems fine, ligts and such are working, and when attempting to start the battery light switches itself off. If I push accelerator whilst it is trying to turn over, it momentarily tries a little harder but soon becomes obvious we aren't getting anywhere.

  Some assumptions made - What does "BK" mean for instance ? I assume you've purchased a battery and didn't bring it from somewhere??. Sorry if my tirade seems rude to you but you could have read the small print before posting.

  Then they work OK and the car has no problems or driveability issues. I posted this problem a while back and the general consensus was a battery on its last legs. Well, I have a brand new battery installed and the recent cold snap has shown the problem still exists. Is there anything else anyone can think of to rectify this? I'm concerned this will happen when driving, or worse it points to an imminent failure of some component!

  Basically the engine barely turns over when you turn the key, its kinda like the starter is jammed or severely lacking power, then after about 3 or 4 goes it seems to get some life and fires the engine up ? I have put in a new battery. Have also taken the starter out , checked and extensively cleaned all wires and earths. I benched the starter on a good battery whilst out of the car and although it did spin it seemed pretty slow to me be then again its hard to tell.
