Cumbria Scammer Vans - New Threat! 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
It is likely that cameras may operate in pairs or threes in a short stretch of road, so watch out! Yet another money making scam from the Safety Scamera Partnership. Don't forget to flash your headlights to oncoming vehicles if you pass one - just to indicate your presence in accordance with the Highway Code of course. -

Bora's bulbs 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Look in the book to find what bulb to buy and it says that all bulbs should be replaced by the dealer. Is this a scam so the dealer can charge £15 for a £2 light bulb? Or is it really impossible for the user to fit a replacement? What happens in France when you are supposed to carry spare bulbs if: a) the manual doesn't tell you what bulb to buy. b) you can't fit it yourself anyway. -
claim following a scam insurance claim against me 8 Nov 2013 (Forum)
hi some 18 months ago ;whilst sitting in my car outside school i was approached by a young woman who claimed that my car had been in collision with hers and a slight scratch had been made on her vehicle,i told her no way and she replied i went to the police because you drove off, no police ever came to my house, some weeks later i recieved a letter from my insuance company informing me a claim against my car had been recieved by them and they wanted my instuctions, i told them not to pay anything because in my opinion it was a scam, shortly after i recieved a letter informing me that a inspector would be coming to check my vehicle for damage i never saw the inspector or indeed his report , but i did recieve a telephone call from a solicitor in liverpool informing me he was representing my insurers and asking for details ,i told him exactly as i told you above; and he sounded somewhat surprised about the small scratch, when i asked about that he replied the woman was in fact claiming low back whiplash, after the usual contact between this solicitor and her representative i was sent two statements one from the woman and another from her witness, they were conflicting on a number of salient points, there was apparently some discussion on the colour of my car and perhaps i should state here that my car is a motorbility vehicle, apparently requests were made by my insurers solicitor that the claim should be withdrawn which was obviously refused, weeks later i was asked if my car could be checked by a court appointed inspector ,which was duely carried out, i recieved a copy of that report and ,not that it was ever in doubt by myself it was revealed forensically that my vehicle had never come into contact with any other car let alone the claimants, there was some mention of colour again and i think there had been an inference that my car may have had a re spray, then i recived a letter informing me that the claim had been withdrawn, this has caused myself and my wife months of worry and stress, my wife has durin this period had a heart pacemaker inserted, thi was not caused by the situation chrinicled above but it most certainly has not helped, my question , can i now claim against her insurers, sorry its taken so long but i feel you needed to know all the relevant facts,, yours K Royle mr -
Sold a car overseas 20 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Now he has contacted us asking for a copy of my ID to register it, saying this is a requirement. Really reluctant to do this, does it sound like a scam. Keen to hear people's views on it. As far as I'm concerned, car has been sold and registered as exported with DVLA, he has all of the paperwork so why does he need my ID?? -

Incorrect Car Parking Fine 5 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I received a letter from Town and City parking saying that i was being fined for car parking in Scotland. This is clearly incorrect as i have never been to Scotland. Is this a scam by the company or an indivdual in the organisation to get a bonus? Or has my car registration been cloned....? I am not planning on paying the fine, despite the letter talking about debt collection agencies, what should i do? -
UKPC pursuit of my money 31 May 2012 (Forum)
I have read a number of strings on the issue of PPCs trying to scam money from the public. Your write up was the most informative and stressed that the identification of the driver was the crucial issue. I have received a letter from Debt Recovery Plus Ltd acting for UKPC which refers to the Norwich Pharmacol Protocol. -

Seat dealer - £90 to diagnose fault 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The dealer has told him if the fault is not a warranty issue, he will need to pay £90 for their diagnosis. Since when did they dream up this scam? We are not talking about an intermitent fault, it should be easy enough to diagnose. Is he allowed to take it to an alternative VAG dealer nearby for warranty work? The skoda dealer and the VW dealer do not charge for diagnosing cars that are under warranty. -

I guess I'm just worried that some scam artist will run off with my car. Does anyone have any tips of how best to sell a car of this age and get the best return? Many thanks Matthew -

Peugeot 307 - sold car on ebay, buyer won't use paypal 15 Aug 2010 (Forum)
The auction description said in no uncertain terms "PAYPAL ONLY" and people with no paypal account were unable to bid. The winner now says he won't use paypal as he has "been scammed" before. I think he wants to turn up with cash, find fault with the car and offer less. Am I paranoid? My instinct is to refuse and re-list. Ta. -
Online Banking - *iMPORTANT* 24 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I got an email pointing me to this forum: http://www.skylineowners.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15945 I'm sure you've all seen scams but this one is incredibly realistic . If you look at the demo pages, it uses the real Barclays site but for the login it uses the fake one. The particular nice touch is the "BE AWARE OF FRAUDSTERS" Like I say, it's a smooth job and I do apologise for posting here but if at least a few people read it then that's something.
