    The 1.6-litre petrol now manages 47.1mpg, and improvement of 2.3mpg, and emits 8g/km less CO2, at 139g/km. The changes not only reduce fuel bills but also road tax, which is £15 less annually. The 1.5-litre dCi diesel has a fuel economy boost from 55.4mpg to 57.6mpg, with emissions reduced from 134g/km to 129g/km. That means a drop in VED band from E to D, saving £20 per year.

    Britain’s motorists could see a 13p-per-litre drop in the cost of unleaded fuel after leading banks issues a warning that oil was heading for $10 a barrel. If true, the prediction would be good news for drivers, with unleaded falling to 86p-per-litre. The Royal Bank of Scotland and Standard Chartered have both predicting an unprecedented crash in oil prices as OPEC, Russia and the USA continue to battle for market share and flood the market with surplus oil.  Wholesale oil prices have already fallen by 70 per cent since June 2015, but analysts have warned that further cuts are on the way.  RAC fuel spokesman Simon Williams said: “This latest prediction of oil hitting just $10 a barrel would have the potential to take petrol prices down to around 86p per litre.  "At $10 a barrel, tax would account for around 84% of the total price per litre – a clear indication of just how high a proportion of every litre we buy goes straight to the Treasury."

    The new engine will be unveiled in at the Auto China show in Shanghai under the bonnet of the all-new Ford Mondeo . The new aluminium-block, twin-cam 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine will feature some of the innovations introduced on the 1.0-litre EcoBoost, such as an integrated exhaust manifold.

    The 1686cc 16v 80PS four-cylinder ECOTEC turbo diesel, with two overhead camshafts and common rail direct fuel injection, produces a maximum torque of 170 Nm and a top speed of 108mph in saloon and hatchback models.     By adding Start/Stop tech to the existing Astra 2.0 CDTi Hatch, Vauxhall has not only maintained the model’s robust performance, but reduced its fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions, too. Compared with the outgoing 2.0 CDTi Hatch, the Start/Stop version’s fuel consumption improves by over 5mpg in the EC lab test combined cycle, from 57.6mpg to 62.8mpg.
