Overall reliability

I'd say it was superb except they already used that name!

We had a 2011 Focus before - a badly made, badly designed, slow, cramped pile of drek.
The Octavia couldn't be more different.
The 1.4 petrol turbo is punchy and quiet, the DSG gearbox smooth as silk and at 70mph it's pull just over 2000 rpm compared to the focus's buzzy 3200
Beware - the DSG is very slow to kick down so think ahead when overtaking, or slip it into manual.
Bags of space, a quality interior and technology that works with you not against you (again Ford take note).
The Elegance or SE-L trim is generous - folding mirrors and the variable boot floor are a must.
It grips and rides well, yet still supple around town and not remotely 'crashy'.
Our dog now has room to play football in the back, and we can fit 4 6-footers in the rest of the cabin with ease.
Simply do not understand why so many motoring Journos praise the focus, compared to the Octavia, it isn't half the car. Pun intended.
