Alright, but other cars are better

Having had 2x bad/mediocre experiences with Kia/Hyundai I was hesitant to buy a third. However, I had been informed of improvements over older models and am pleased to say, I can see clear improvements.

I have owned plenty of cars over 20+ years on the road. This definitely isn’t one of the worst (that goes to the Hyundai Getz, followed closely by a series of Vauxhalls). But nor is it one of the best (that goes to BMW, VW/Audi/Skoda, Mercedes and Ford).

The Sportage is okay to drive - not exciting but doesn’t seem to do much wrong either, just bland.
It’s fairly comfy as well and manageable on longer journeys, however the 1700cc diesel is louder than I expected.

Car is quite practical and the interior is better built than Kia/Hyundai of old - still not great however. I have had one rattle at around 35,000 miles but Kia sported that for free.

Fuel economy is decent as well, I seem to get around 47mpg, however the road tax is higher than I’d expect for an EcoDynamics at £140 a year.

The only other fault I’ve had was a high biting point on the clutch caused by some kind of gearbox leak (Kia fixed for free) and the A/C broke (again fixed for free).

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the Kia Sportage. It doesn’t do much wrong, nor does it do much right, it’s very “Meh”
Rivals are generally more comfortable, reliable and economical.

However, I can see that in the last 10 years or so Hyundai/Kia have made progress. They are better than a company such as Vauxhall but cannt quite match the Germans or best of Asia quite yet. But over time I’m sure they’ll be up there
