Excellent city car that is lacking for journeys over 30 minutes

We bought the i10 for my wife after test driving it against a Fiat 500 - didn't expect the i10 to win that one!

It is a very capable car in and about the city with a good, nippy engine up to 30 MPH and responsive brakes and steering. It is really well equipped although the seat material is cheap and the seats offer little support. The seat position was my main problem - being tall I felt I was sitting on the seat not in it (like a park bench perhaps) and this meant that when driving my leg was in a funny position that gave back ache after a few weeks of driving the car every day (and achilles tendon pains after 45 minutes of driving). This made it a perfect station car, great shopping car but not any good for the 20 mile mixed roads commute I started recently.

On the 20 mile commute of 40% dual carriageway 60-70, 40% single carriageway 50-60 and 20% stop/start city <30 it averaged 44 mpg recorded over 3 months brim to brim filling calculations. I was a bit disappointed at that but I reckon the little engine sucked petrol trying to get up to speed on the faster roads and then keeping up at times. A 2 litre turbo charged petrol Audi A3 has averaged 36 on the same journey over 2 weeks.

The alloys were starting to bubble in places on our car but otherwise we suffered no faults. The service cost was reasonable.
