Honda CR-V (2012 - 2018)
2.2 i-DTEC EX Auto 5dr 4 X 4
NEUTRAL
I traded in a 2010 Hyundai Premium diesel auto. The one thing that prompted me to go for this car was the 0% finance. if Hyundai had offered the same I think I would have gone for that. The Honda is better quality than my Hyundai, quieter and smoother but even less involving - it seems to lack character. I opted for the Safety Pack option - big mistake. An extra £2,250 and all you get is irritation. I would never choose something like that again. Like others I have also found some irritating niggles. The chrome strip at the top of the driver's door reflects in the mirror. The mirror unfolds automatically when you open the driver's door which is a problem on a frosty morning because it stays closed and has to be defrosted before it operates. I would rather do that first and unfold the mirrors when I am happy that they will operate correctly. As with another reviewer I find that mud can build up behind the bottom of the doors. The rear view camera is easily obscured by rain or muck. I agree with the reviewer who was disappointed by the fact that the bonnet did not have a gas strut - my Hyundai did. I have done just under 4,000 miles in four months and am getting just under 42mpg. Overall I am satisfied with the car but I think that a firm like Honda could have worked a bit harder to produce a more rounded car.
It is now April 2015 and the fuel consumption after 14,500 miles is averaging out to 43mpg. But there is one strange thing. From October 2013 to January 2015 I had the ECO button permanently engaged. I then decide to switch it off and since then there has been virtually no change in the fuel consumption - if anything it seems to be marginally better although the car feels a bit brisker. I have not changed my driving style, so what on earth is going on? There have still been a few niggles, such as the seat belt retraction not functioning and the audio volume setting itself to zero now and again, but overall not a bad car.
