Honda CR-V (2012 - 2018)
1.6i DTEC EX 4WD 5dr automatic
Lovely Car BUT
I bought this car to pull a caravan.. The car in question I bought at a FORD dealership, it seemed in very good condition with only 33000 miles on the clock, and with service history. I test drove it but didn’t get on the open road due to congestion at the time, it seemed ok, but a bit slow on the take off. Not being used to an automatic, I just thought that was normal.
During the couple of months of having the CRV, It did long and short journeys with and without the caravan.
However on the return journey in wet windy weather with the caravan at the end of the second month of ownership the car lost power and went into limp mode. Pulled into a petrol station with in a hundred metres and phoned the breakdown company, which resulted in the car being dropped off at the dealership from which it came.
The Ford dealership could not solve the issue and attempted to drive the vehicle to a Honda dealership. Discovered the vehicle was not drivable, then arranged a transporter.
The Honda garage took a few days to find the fault. A joint or a number of joints not properly sealed on the boost pipe and intercooler and discovered water had got into the system! Gasket and seals were replaced but unfortunately too much water must have entered to the extent the car would require a new engine.
I got a full refund. (After five weeks of fault finding fixing and faffing)
Now found an identical car in a Honda dealership, that is far more lively and responsive.
With hindsight and the experience, there must have been a fault undetected when I purchased the vehicle, but why and how a boost pipe becomes disconnected is difficult to understand, unless repairs had been done and bodged.
The boost pipe protrudes below the weather shield so should the joint fail, water can be sucked in!
