  • Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Toasty Buns 9 Jan 2018 (Forum)
from the cold wife, to the heating on chilling morns threads the £6 remnote control arrived today and by luck the local  Aldi had heated car seat s for £10 with 3 year guarantee !! This is just to show that it works, and that it has a range of at least 30 foot it has 2 relays , so maxed out, It can control two  10a 12v outlets  As it arrives £6 all in , from my man in the East ;) https://ibb.co/fi7B1m and as an added bonus, the remote looks like a Minion in his big underpants :) https://ibb.co/fn3Jgm This is how I've wired it, as my cig lighter is constant 12v  but you could just tap into a heavy duty 12v source https://ibb.co/dvALu6   first steps...very low standy amps . 11milli amps, if not less  https://youtu.be/ALoixRtiY4A    messing about, to test if it would run a 240v inverter disco bulb , incase you were wondering :) and yes, I did take the video with a potato :) https://youtu.be/A7-cCBro4sY I am trying a spare battery..as the heated seats take 2.5-3 amps  and can charge it on the fly https://ibb.co/bsZKnR https://ibb.co/jzSGZ6  Anywho, just to show that it lends itself to other applications.
  • Which large saloon car would you recommend for motorway use and towing a caravan? 3 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
I have owned a 2001 BMW 530d SE (E39) from new and have covered approximately 11,000 miles per year, 75 per cent of which has been on motorways. Though...
  • What does the team think... 15 Sep 2003 (Forum)
about my chances of getting a Parking Penalty Charge Notice retrospectively overturned. Here's what happened. Last December (I know, b****y C*******s shopping) I got caught-out one dark gloomy evening in Central Milton Keynes. Parked in a spot that I thought was OK. It subsequently turned out to be for Community Transport Users (whoever they are) but was identifiable only by a small easily missable (in my opinion) plaque attached to a lampost!
  • Strange tyre wear on a Fiesta 23 May 2012 (Ask HJ)
I was wondering if you could shed some light on a problem I have with my Fiesta. First a little history. It's an 08 plate TDCi Zetec S. I brought it just...
  • Protection from rear impacts 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
As Clarkson observes, ?Speed never killed anybody. It?s the abrupt stop that does for you.? In other words, it?s all very well having a rigid passenger cell, but surely there?s little substitute for plain old distance (and therefore time) between point of contact and point of coming to rest?

  • Why don't you criticise manufacturers who don't fit spare wheels to cars? 28 Sep 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Which small car should I buy as a reliable runaround? 9 Feb 2013 (Ask HJ)
My lovely 1994 Nissan 200SX with 99,445 miles, which I have found reliable, solid, comfortable and secure, evidently needs about £1000 of work - mostly...

  • Which cars have 'quickclear' windscreens? 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I know Fords are available with heating-elements in the windscreen; but as I've been looking around for a 'new' secondhand car recently, I've come across several mentions of 'heated screen'. (I'll feel such a chump, though, if the sellers are merely referring to the heated rear screen.)
  • Passed on M40 18 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I had occasion to go to Oxford yesterday and on way back I was tootling along at 70 when a Ford 375 Consul passed me - now that was a shock as my old Zodiac never felt safe at that speed - it was the grubbiest one I have ever seen - painted matt black with painted on cat paw marks- the rear number plate was missing so not sure of year - anyway I had to pass it just for pride sake - then further on I passed a car towing a hot rod not in too good condition either - then getting close to Warwick turn I passed a nice looking pink 50's Buick - very low to ground (my type of car) - so anyone any idea what event these cars might have been to?
  • Simplest to service new small petrol engine? 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I remember an old 1.3 Polo that just seemed to need oil, filters and plugs at about that time, but what`s its contemporary? We discussed the small Japanese engines and these seem to need tappet adjustment. How about the smallest petrol engines from Ford, Vauxhall and VW? for simplicity of home servicing and reliability?
  • twin motors wipers. Any feedback? 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The system, in which each wiper arm is driven by its own electric motor, offers the maximum swept windscreen area via motors that are both compact and flexible for under bonnet fitment. The Bosch system is already being fitted to the new Ford Galaxy, the Citroen C6 and the recently launched Mercedes-Benz S-Class." More info at http://www.bosch.co.uk/content/language2/html/3492_4530.htm Any feedback from users? it seems a good idea but I hope the the electronic controls are " robust" Having experienced a mechanical linkage failure ( in a thunderstorm) , a wiper arm fall off onto the bonnet, the motor burn out and finally smoke belch from the dash, the Bosch approach would avoid this risk.
  • Terrano/Maverick Wheel Wobble 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My first thought was wishbone bushes but all seem ok. I've had the wheels balanced and swapped around the car to eliminate them and it?s made no difference. Any advice would be most welcome. :)
  • Mondeo 1.8 Zetec Timing belt or chain? 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
John's comments on the Ford Mondeo 24v 6-speed Road Test ( http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/road_tests/?id=118 ) didn?t help matters as he mentioned changing a timing belt on his Mondeo and in the specifications immediately below says they have timing chains.
  • Volvo S60 2.0 - Your thoughts? 20 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm hoping to be in a position to change my car in the spring and I am toying with the idea of a Volvo S60 2.0 T manual in S or SE spec. The vehicle won't be new, probably Y/51/02 plate. I've been a Ford Mondeo man for many years now so it's time for a change. Can anyone who owns/drives or has any other knowledge of the S60 give me some input as to what to expect.
  • Focus to Clio? 8 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, I currently drive a '99 'S' Focus 1.8 petrol which I've had since Jan 2001 and which has on the whole been reliable and nice to own. I am thinking of downsizing to a brand new Renault Clio 1.6 16V Dynamique+ 3dr, and have seen the Clio on offer as low as £8499.
