  • Ford Mondeo MK2 - Mondeo MK2 can feel knocking through brake pedal 1 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I am reasonably mechanically minded and have checked this on the net including this site and basically I have eliminated most common causes.. 1) Both drive shafts have been replaced with new ones (the n/s driveshaft had a knackered cv joint) 2) Both bottom arms have been replaced with new (o/s balljoint had slight play) 3) New discs & pads been fitted I have even tried swapping both front hubs from one of my mates who runs a scrappy to eliminate wheel bearing problems and they seem fine.

  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 Coolant Leak 14 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Couldn't see anything till they had it on the ramp and apparently its the core plugs leaking at back of engine? I didn't get a look. I believe they need some bits from Ford and a gasket or two. Anyway quoted around £165 if all goes to plan and the plugs prove easy enough to remove. Its booked in for Tuesday and we've not used it much, only to take son to nursery and back.
  • Mazda 6 Estate 2015 - Excessive tyre noise 25 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I have a 2015 Mazda 5 estate riding on 225/45 R19 tyres. Recently I've noticed what seems like excessive tyre noise and vibration and am wondering if alignment/tracking will help with this. I have had a few bumps against high pavements as well as driving through some poor quality roads with large potholes.

  • Ashtray/Cd tray Mk5 Fiesta 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have a Mk5 fiesta and it came as standard with a ashtray fitted. I have seen several other Mk5's that are fitted with a Cd storage tray/coin holder fitted as a optional fit item instead of the ashtray. Does anyone know if this is available as a spare part conversion, i've tried my ford dealer and they are saying that its a production line fitted item only.
  • Ford Focus - EXTENDED WARRANTY 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I`m new to the site and I would appreciate any help at all.  This is an unsual situation (I think!). Just over a year ago I bought a Ford Focus from Motorpoint in Newport. The car was only 6mths old and still had over 2 years of the manufacture`s warranty to run. The extended warranty was not to kick in until 2017 (Sept). Unfortunately I was involved in an accident last week and the insurance company have told me that the car is a write-off.
  • Why do people..... 20 May 2014 (Forum)
There are peope in the Back Room who drive very nice cars, but one assumes that they can afford to buy/lease and run them.  I can afford to drive cars which cost a lot more than my S-Max, but it suits my purpose and at the moment, I can find better things to do with my money.  But I simply despair when I read, yet again, the same phrases: -  "I only have £1,000 to spend and I want to buy a two year old (sic) BMW".
  • Petrol or Diesel for long term ownership 14 Feb 2014 (Forum)
As the three smallest are going to be all big by the end of that next decade, I need it to be quite a large vehicle. I have in mind the C4 Grand Picasso, S-Max, Galaxy (ex Addison Lee perhaps), Zafira, or maybe an estate like a Mondeo or Passat.   Question is, diesel or petrol. I know the conventional view is low-users should go for petrol, but does the 10y cycle change this?
  • Nissan Juke - Happy Pink has a new car! 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
They say the best way to test drive a car is to rent one.  So three years ago I was given an S-Max rental and three years later I am still driving the one I bought as soon as I got home. Christmas saw us in a Nissan Juke.  Very happy with the car, had a good crawl over and SWMBO announced that it was a suitable candidate to replace the five year old A-Class.
  • Suggestions for my next car 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Or should I go for a lower mileage car and change it after 1 year? My budget will be £4K max. My preferences would be something nice to drive, automatic preferred [easier when you in unfamiliar towns and cities] 4 door and not too thirsty. Not bothered about petrol or diesel. Something 'flash' would be nice but not essential.
  • headlights and DLR 24 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My final thought on the headlamp subject is dim-dip should be reinstated and used around town and the 4x4s need to have the beam aimed at max 5% not 1.25%.
  • Mopeds. 20 Sep 2001 (Forum)
well if i worked in my local area, i'd sell my car and buy one ! The only thing that'd put me off is the 35mph max speed and the puny noise it makes, but i'd put up with that when i'd be saving all that money that i'd be paying out for my car ! Rgds, Ash.
  • Ford Transit - Questions for Transit owners 3 Mar 2021 (Forum)
(Bear in mind I’m not planning on a resale but want it to last us at least seven years as a camper) Or would we be better off looking for an older model with less than 100K on the clock? My concerns with the older models are that if I’m not sure we’d get the max height and width (no, I want a Ducato!), but I don’t have the budget to get a newer van with less miles... 4. Finally, I don’t suppose anybody knows when the used van market is going to cool off a bit?!
  • Ford Focus Mk1 99/T 1.8 petrol - Badly reduced fuel economy 1 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I've eliminated things like tyre pressure/condition and despite having a small oil leak, it seems to make no difference whether the car is a Max or Min oil level. One thing I haven't changed for several years is the fuel filter, but despite a friend suggesting it as a possible cause I can't really see how it could cause the car to use *more* fuel??
