  Flying Finns in action at Race Retro 16 Jan 2017 (News)
  Vatanen won the British Championship in 1976 and by 1977 was a regular competitor in the World Rally Championship at the wheel of a Ford Escort RS1800. Signed to the Rothmans Ford team in 1979, Vatanen and new co-driver David Richards took their first WRC win at the 1980 Acropolis. After winning the WRC drivers title in 1981, Vatanen joined Peugeot at the wheel of a 205 T16, and was on course to win the 1985 World Championship until a near-fatal accident in Argentina ended his season and nearly his life.  The Finn recovered and returned to the sport winning four Paris-Dakar Rallies in 1987, 1989, 1990 and 1991, as well as smashing the record for the Pikes Peak Hill climb in a 600bhp Peugeot 405 T16 in 1988. Vatanen said, ‘I am very much looking forward to joining Race Retro and seeing all the rally fans over the weekend.

  1955 Dellow Mk II B in Historics 20th August Brooklands Auction 4 Aug 2016 (News)
  The design encopassed light weight and a rearward bias aided by a passenger bouncing up and down to improve traction. The Ford E93A sidevalve engines were mildly tuned and many used twin SUs on a cast alloy 'Dellow' manifold. MkII had a new, much more robust rear chassis section with coil springs, separate telescopic shock absorbers and a Panhard rod. This 1955 Mk II B Dellow car has been dry stored since 1973 but was MoTd in 2008 and shows only only 59,000 miles.

  In such a spot it was a real pleasure to watch the likes of Phil Garret and Kieron Brown drifting their Chevy, Gerry Crown trying to go slowly to match the now much reduced speed of our test section, and the Citroen DS, which been suffering over-heating problems, tackling the smooth track in "Sahara"-style raised suspension - the front is on maximum height adjustment and refuses to adjust downwards. The two Holdens sounded glorious, and drowned out the cuckoo nuisance, and car 38 the Ford V8 of Mike Reeves and Michelle Jana Chan swept through the wood at an even, steady V8 growl - recent oil-pump problems presumably cured. Looking very slow was car 15, the Ford Special - it has a worn rocker-shaft, but there are plans to change it overnight.

  The North East’s premier motor sport venue just outside Darlington will be hosting a National Championship fixture for the famed British Automobile Racing Club, featuring two hotly contested races each for BMWs, Legends (stock cars), open-topped Clubmans (sportscars) and both classic Formula Ford 1600 and Formula Ford 2000 single-seaters. Both FFord grids will surely bring back some great memories for enthusiasts as they include the type of car raced by many drivers who later went on to star in Formula 1 in the Seventies and Eighties.

  The Avantime in today’s sale was a 25k mile 02 reg 3.0 V6 petrol Privilege but with a manual box and bids for it stopped at £7,450. An exquisite little 9k mile 04 reg Ford Street Ka Luxury Winter Edition (with the very rare removable hard-top) sold for £8,600.   Mercedes-Benz teases new Vito Sport van 19 Sep 2019 (News)
  The new Vito Sport will rival the  Ford Transit Custom Sport  and arrive in Mercedes-Benz Van showrooms in late-2019. The Sport models will represent the new top trim in the Vito line-up, but be limited to crew cab and tourer versions at launch.  The Sport van comes with almost every bell and whistle from the Vito catalogue, with leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, LED headlights and alloy wheels.

  Mercedes-Benz refuses to comment on future of X-Class pick-up 31 Jul 2019 (News)
  The industry publication claims that just 16,700 units of the X-Class were sold in 2018 in Europe, Australia and South Africa - a figure that's well below key rivals, with Ford selling almost 17,000 Rangers in the UK in 2018 alone.  Daimler UK has refused to discuss the future of the X-Class, however, with a spokesperson telling Honest John Vans that it "does not comment on speculation".  In July, Mercedes-Benz recalled over 2000 X-Class models after it emerged that the i ncorrect mounting instructions had been supplied for retrofitting trailer coupling .

  A Grand Monday: Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16v 3 Dec 2018 (News)
  It was the car that reinvigorated the coupe market in Europe after the demise of the Ford Capri two years earlier, which had left a yawning gap in the affordable mainstream two-door market, and was also the most aerodynamic car ever made, with a drag co-efficient of 0.26 - a record it held until it was usurped by the Honda Insight in 2001.  It was also a strikingly handsome car, although its Vauxhall underpinnings have, sadly, seen most of them now rot away - rear body corrosion being the biggest killer of Calibras.
