  Today sees the UK launch of Fords new small sports utility 4x4, the Maverick.   The new Fiesta will be offered with Ford's three-cylinder 1.0-litre Ecoboost petrol engine in 99bhp and 118bhp forms, and also the new 79bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine, a 1.25-litre with either 59bhp or 81bhp, and a 104bhp 1.6-litre. A new 74bhp 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine joins the Fiesta range, the other diesel option is the existing 94bhp 1.6-litre.

  Bids for this rose in thousands from £25,000 to the £36,000 lower estimate, then continued by £500s to a provisional £39,000. A particularly nice 1917 Ford Model T two-seater started low at £3,000 but went on to sell for the estimated £6,600. A 1964 Mini Cooper 1275S, which must have been one of the first 1275s, sold for a huge £7,600.

  It is expected to go on sale in 2017. It's not clear what the new model will be called, but it was first previewed in 2015 as the City Adventure Concept. Underneath the curious dirtbike-cum-scooter bodywork are the underpinnings of the popular NC750 motorcycle and the Integra scooter - specifically a torquey, 54PS parallel twin engine with a DCT automatic transmission.
