Honda Jazz - Can I change the brake pads only for front tyre? 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
My car current mileage is 43000+ miles. I understand that it is usual to change the brake discs together with brake pads (etc: my rear tyres). Can I change the brake pads for the front tyres without changing the brake disc? Will it lead to any damage to my front tyre brake discs? -
General: parking brake on automatics 16 Oct 2006 (Forum)
This can cause a couple of problems. The biggest problem is that the brake cables tend to get corroded and eventually seize up causing the parking brake to become inoperative. By using the parking brake from time to time, the cables stay clean and functional. Another problem comes from the fact that the self adjusting mechanism on certain brake systems uses the parking brake actuation to adjust the brakes. -
Brake Fade 11 Jul 2002 (Forum)
Since the advent of disc brakes, ABS and non-hydroscopic brake fluid, is 'brake fade' a term to be confined to history? -
Hazards of left foot braking re the Toyota debacle 6 Oct 2010 (Forum)
As in it occurs to me. If one is conditioned to brake with ones right foot and one starts braking with ones left as advocated by HJ, or indeed both feet in an emergency, as I have also seen advocated Surely the chances are therefore increased in an emergency of braking with the left foot on the brake pedal whilst "braking" with the right foot on the accelerator, but thinking it is on the brake. -

Can sudden/Harsh braking damage the brakes/ABS? Today I had to perform a sudden hard brake due to a driver pulling out when I was doing 30mph ish on a downhill so I had to press the brakes quite hard. I am worried if it can damage the brakes/Abs or braking system -

drum brakes to disc brakes 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
As i am thinking of sticking a set of alloy wheels on the car, i would like to know if it's possible to change the drum brakes to disc brakes. Is it just a matter of takeing of the old & putting on the new. Or does it have 2B a complete axle change? If can just change from drum brakes to disc brakes, is it a very complicated job? -

Honda CR-V III (2007 - ) - Parking brake question 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a question about the parking brake on the CRV III that hopefully some of you can help with? The manual says you engage the parking brake by pulling it back fully. However, long before it is in the fully back position the red brake indicator on the dash comes on but the car is not braked - if on a slope it will roll downwards. -
Brake Cylinders 1 or both? 3 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I took my 1989 1.0 Rover Metro into a rapid-service type brake outfit this morning, as my brakes did not feel right (brake pedal travelling too far, hand brake lever coming up too far and loss of "sharpness" when braking). They have diagnised that the passenger side brake cylinder has cracked and leaked brake fluid over the shoes and drum. -
Honda Jazz - Burnt smell at brake although new brake disc & pad 12 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Car used: Honda Jazz year 2010 Context: The car had some grinding noise when the brake pad at NSR tyre had been "eaten" all the way & the brake disc had been rubbing with the brake pad. I had since changed the brake pad & brake disc at NSR. The noise is gone which is good. -

peugeot 106 rear brake problem 12 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, My wife has a puegeot 106 1.5 diesel which has just developed a brake problem. When you brake the car dips at the back as if most of the braking is being done by the back brakes, if braking really hard then the back passenger wheel locks up, does anyone know what could be causing this problem? -
R reg Renault Megane brake failure 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I was driving on the motorway at about 60mph in heavy rain when I had to brake hard to avoid a car wheel which rolled in front of my car . The brakes worked well but I felt a 'clunk' in the brake pedal and when I tried to brake afterwards the pedal was really loose and went to the floor with very little braking. -
Rover 25 year 2000 - Brake lights. 9 Jan 2016 (Forum)

Xantia - dodgy brakes(?) 3 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Can't stop fiddling with this car (1995 1.9 td lx)... The brakes are driving me insane, I can't decide if they're playing up or not. When braking firmly (from say 30+mph) the brakes cut in and out, kinda brake hard, roll, brake hard, roll... which is really unnerving. -
Motorcycles - Brake modification with ABS brakes 28 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Due to not able to use right leg to operate rear brake I have adapted my motorcycles to use a thumb brake. Usually use a front brake master cyliner turned around on the left handlebar with some modifications to the mounting and lever. Thinking of purchasing a new motorcycle that has got ABS fitted. -
