  • Spotting sub £1,700 cars - Rattle category? 30 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Thye former looked good for another 7 years and the latter - surely for a year? I guess my approach to the £350 job would be to just drive it into the ground if it drove `straight` just keeping the fluid topped up. You know how it is though, you tend to notice examples of the cars you`re actually driving, more than those you are not.
  • Left hand drive cars 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi I live in France and need to buy a new car (hence Left Hand Drive). Someone at ( 8< SNIP ) suggested your site, I hope you can help me. Apparently it can now be cheaper for someone in France to come to the UK, buy a LHD car, take it back to France and reregister it.

  • Been done for speeding - driver identity[locked] 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have been done for doing 97 in a 60 limit (nice day and little traffic so no danger!!). Me and Mrs are insured on the car and we dont remember who was driving because we share the car throughout the day. We have had the photo but it is dark and bit blurred so no ID possible. If we write back and say we dont know who was driving, which is true, will the councel jobsworths drop it?
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 2000 1.3 knocking noise 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
hi all, just a quick post looking for a little advice. i have a 2000 x reg fiesta that has suddenly developed a knocking sound occasionally when being put into gear whilst stationary, it also appears more often when moving off from a standing start. i can't really describe the fault much more as it has only appeared in the last few hours. i have been driving on a motorway and the car is driving fine apart from this noise appearing, i'm just looking for a quick reply on what this could be as i've got to drive 150 miles back home tomorrow and i'm a little concerned as to what this could be. thanks in advance, rach
  • What did you learn to drive in? 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
The first ever car I drove was an (1970's) Escourt Estate. Upon learning the core basics and spending many ours driving around a disused airbase near Beverley East Yorkshire - I was then put in to a Bedford 7.5t and let loose on the roads! I took my dual car & HGV 3 test in this vehicle. I then progressed from there to HGV 2 evetually on to HGV 1 vehicles taking a dual HGV 1 + 2 test.
  • The right to drive more slowly? 5 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I personally leave room for people to overtake, but if I wish to potter along at 50 mph on an A-road, I surely will and if I get stuck behind a lorry doing 40 mph, unless Im in a huge hurry, I believe im well within my rights not to bother overtaking. What is wrong with driving at a reasonable, but not fast pace? Is it not so much the pace of the slower car, but the driver behind thinking that they are infact far more important and people should yield to their will?
  • A12 - Slow driver in black Peugeot 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Why does he always drive so slowly, and why the hazard lights all the time? I didn't think much of it the first time I overtook him, but it is odd that he drives like that all the time.
  • Driving Test Requirements 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
(There are no motorways north of Stirling - and I don't thiink there are many on places like the Isle of Wight or the Scily Isles either.) I certainly can't see someone from Lerwick taking a whole day to sail to Aberdeen, then drive to Edinburgh or Glasgow for a test, then go back home again - a round trip of 800 miles, two drivers, probably 2 nights accommodation...... and they'll probably never see a motorway again. I could probably say the same for drivers in west Wales.

  • The unfairness of it all 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
so there we have it, over 10 years no accidents broken by an idiot in a white van driving into me, insurance company says NCB will drop 2 years if he doesnt admit it, why 2 years?, will be driving around in a group one car if im lucky enough to get a courtesy car, and this idiot will get off with no points (waste of time ringing the police these days), but of course if I drive through a speed camera a few mph over the limit i will get hammered, my car crumpled a little too well - where can i get a family car with NO crumple zone?

I am test-driving two Passats this afternoon - ex company cars. They are both 130PD diesels. Late 2002 cars. Anything I should be looking out for, over and above the excellent advice in the car-by-car guide? They are both on long service intervals.

Accelerating up a hill doesn't make the gauge get any hotter than 96C Driving down a hill with the heater on and no throttle for about 1 minute the temp dropped to 92C on the gauge. At steady motorway driving the gauge is around 95C but I'm not sure if the fans are still coming on.
