two recent journeys have highlighted a problem. Leeds to Durham, an easy drive and plenty of time cruising at 75 but Tom Tom says my time of arrival is well into the future. Even as I leave the motorway knowing I am 5 minutes from my destination Tom Tom tells me I won't arrive for 30 minutes.

Same thing today Middlesbrough to Wakefield. Arrived at my destination but Tom Tom tells me I still have 17 minutes driving to do even though the distance still to travel is zero.

If I didn't know better I'd drive faster to make the ETA come down . Anyone else notice this? Any solutions (apart from use my common sense...

Yes- check the configuration settings, you probably have an ambnormally low "average speed" set. Ours is set to 50mph and gives very pessimistic ETAs.

What Model is it? I asumed these looked at the route and road types an calculated the ETA from this. My unit (910) shows the car's speed and (most of the time) the prevailing speed limit eg 37 in a 40 shows as 37/40. The arrival time updates slightly as you travel and is very accurate.

I use tom tom navigator 5. I have no preferences re speed on mine. Mine is accurate to 10 minutes over a three hour journey and is very very accurate.

I drove from Reading to Manchester on Wednesday leaving at 4:30pm. Route was M4, A34, M40, M42, M6 Toll etc. TomTom at 4:30pm said arrive at home at 7:45pm and I got there are 7:55pm and it did update along the way. Pretty accurate I'd say. Obviously if there were massive holdups it would have been wrong but TomTom traffic if I paid again would sort some of that out.

On the newer TomToms (the one that show the speed limit), it it possible to get a more vocal announcement when you exceed it, rather than it simply turning red and flashing at the bottom of the screen?

DH

Don't think it's possible to get a vocal message - but I'm not too bothered. I find the speed camera warning irritating enough, and given the speed limit database is a bit innacurate/out of date I think it would be a nuisance.

Yes,just set the map to turn off at 70MPH. I have mine set to turn off the main map and the screen just shows the next turn (the screen becomes blue).I`ve set it to do this at 78 MPH,which is OK once out of Brumstrom territory.
