Find my daughter an automatic...? 7 Jul 2019 (Forum)
As you can see I'm trying to keep away from automated manuals / DCT and the Nissan notorious CVT but is that a good path to be following? Also as budget is £5K, age isn't as important as condition (although younger is normally nicer) My research more and more makes me think I should do a website that allows folks to say they only want a T/C car or CVT car etc and be able to choose from a list of models. -
Moscow motor show stars 29 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I can see elements of at least two Rolls royce models in there, along with a hint of Maybach (maybe a Rover 75 too?!). But as well as 'conventional' examples to tempt rich Russian's away from foreign imports, there will be armoured versions offering 'an uncompromising level of ballistic and explosive protection'. Engines available are a 590bhp 4.4 litre hybrid V8 co-developed by Porsche and a 6.6 litre V12 (no power figures mentioned, but probably 'sufficient'), https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/wnk2Q/s1/2018-aurus-senat.jpg http://www.autodevot.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Aurus-Senat-rear.jpg -
Nissan Qashqai? - Affordable new/used family car for long commute 3 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Its about a 150 mile round trip (much of it on the M25) and I'll have to go probably 3 days a week, so I need to buy another car that can do 25,000 miles a year. (My wife needs our exisiting family car - a 10 year old Prius). The most important criteria are: • A decent sized boot for my greyhound (when I'm not driving to work) • Really good fuel economy - I'm looking for at least 50mpg. • Total monthly running cost no higher than my rail season ticket of £400pm (I may get a small compensation allowance on top but probably no more than £100pm). -
Mazda 3 / Skoda Octavia / new Suzuki Vitara - New car - hatchback/new family 28 Sep 2015 (Forum)
I've been looking at a number of cars, as one of the new criteria is that the car has to swallow baby seat, and both parts of the stroller in the trunk. Consumption does not get the final say, but important also. The last 3 still in the game are the following: Mazda 3 sedan 2.0 petrol, 120HP: +: killer looks, japanese made (my old one has 205000 km without a fault), big boot -: not a lot of space on the back seat (wonder if I could fit a 0 group baby seat there, as it takes a lot of space), trunk opening as bad as on my current Mazda Skoda Octavia 1.6 TDI, 105 HP: +: a lot of space on back seats, trunk opening can swallow an Airbus inside, excellent fuel consumption -: average/pensioner look, high price here in Croatia (22500€, whereas Mazda comes to 19500 in the similar spec level) New Suzuki Vitara, 1.6 VVT petrol, 120 HP: +: cool crossover looks, nicely equipped for the price, gives same amount of space in back seats as Mazda, 375L trunk seems as it could just fit both stroller parts, has cam chain -: fit and finish (the door just doesn't want to clap when you gently try to close, completely unimpressed by that), price for diesel version goes sky high (21500€, unacceptable for a smaller car with this fit and finish), 1,6 petrol says 5,3L/100km (53 mpg), tests give 7,5L/100km (37 mpg) Further to consumption, Mazda has 5,1L/100km (55 mpg) on highway test at 100km/h, and 7,0 (40) at 130 km/h, which is, for a 2.0 petrol, excellent. -
Mazda 3 2008 - Service interval reset. DPF lamp flashing. 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I am not responsible for you wrecking you car because your not an authorised Mazda Technician ! Here's how I did it :- IMPORTANT: If the DPF light is up, but solid, it does NOT need this proceedure, it needs the DPF regenerating, and if that doesn't work, the DPF replacing ( or deleting ? !) 1) Locate the 6 pin service commector under the bonnet. -
Alleged Speeding Offence 5 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Also if I choose to go to court and have to admit the offence can I realistically ask the magistrate not to give me 3 points as having a clean licence, which I have had for a long time, is important to the type of work I intend to apply for. Just one more thing: I did not see the 30 MPH limit signs as they are quite high up unlike a number of other speed limit signs in the area, not even my wife who was sitting next to me at the time saw them and she has eyes like a hawk and is an enthusiastic back seat driver. -
The death of the diesel engine? 19 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Klaus Schmidt, director of vehicle engineering for start-up Chinese brand Qoros (and previously head of chassis development at BMW’s M division), said he, too, thought diesel engines would markedly decline in importance by the end of the decade, citing ever more stringent pollution regulations as the cause. Some 50 per cent of new cars sold in the UK are diesels, well behind the 70 per cent in Spain and France, but not far short of the EU average of 55 per cent. -
Throttle Hesitation in Xsara HDi 22 Mar 2013 (Forum)
At this stage, I've lost all confidence with the Citroen dealer and my patience is rapidly running out with the national importer. Nothing has been done in the last three months other than check the diagnostics. All ideas are most welcome -
I LEASE FROM MOTABILITY BUT I WANT TO BUY NOW 14 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have concidered buying a much older car and hope that it is resonably reliable, I am thinking maybe something with a very high seat to make it easy to get in and out, range rover, or something simular with a very high entrance and plenty of leg room and comfort is very importent. I drive a renault grand scenic at the moment, and although it is smooth & economicle it is no longer really that suitable with regards to getting in & out...It was at the time the very best I could choose with my given budget and that was also suitable for my needs I am quite aware of most the cars available on the scheme and quite a few are very suitable, It is the A/P That is now making me think about moving on to pastures new... -
Ford Ka, Fiat Bravo - Two car family - trade-offs 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I’d also like something a little bit more enjoyable for weekends away, happy for that to be a little hatchback (i.e,. the runaround) as it’ll be two of us plus luggage. In saying that, economy (financial as well as fuel) is more important than zip. Any ideas for a pair of cars that would meet the above needs, or simply some comments upon our provisional choices, would be much appreciated. -
Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - Help me make sense of the range 12 Mar 2008 (Forum)
the 200SX had 200BHP and felt wonderful (until the back end lost it). I certainly wouldn't want more, but also realise that the mid-range performance was most important not absolute top speeds etc. 20 - 50 acceleration , or 30 - 70 being where it counts. Can't even decide diesel/petrol, but probably would prefer petrol. Diesel is attractive due to the mid range shove I know is typical of a turbo diesel. -
Can't make up me mind wot car to buy 30 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I don't want to get, say, a Mondeo cos I think they're too 'middle-of-the-road sensibly conventionalistical'. However, reliability is very important because I get very annoyed indeed if my car breaks down and I'm late for work / appointments. I've also thought about a new(ish) Mini Cooper. I'm DEFINITELY NOT a tree hugger but don't fancy a 4x4; despite the attraction of putting 2 fingers up to the environmentalists. -
When does your driving style change? 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The literature also indicates that other factors are likely to have an effect; although it is not known what all the influential factors are, or their relative importance. I aim, for the purposes of my PhD, to investigate the circumstances under which drivers change their behaviour in the short term (i.e. during a particular journey, from journey to journey and from day to day). -
Living with the Seicento 8 May 2007 (Forum)
Funny, but this car has become the most important car ive ever owned - mainly because I have always loathed Fiats and I have now relented after ten years and am two weeks into the ownership of one. Its actually not anywhere near as bad as I expected and I can see why people like them. -
Climate change - latest report 14 Feb 2007 (Forum)
For the UK, I think that a significant reduction in fuel use is essential for 3 reasons 1) to do our bit to slow down global warming – we have had our bite at the resource and need to set an example to the developing world 2) our balance of trade – we will be importing an ever increasing proportion of our energy requirements 3) energy security. Not good to rely on other countries for basics In addition we need to change our approach to fossil fuel use from the “I can afford it, so why can’t I use it? -
Diesel engines - dimensions & tech spec 21 Apr 2006 (Forum)
, 1994-97 VW Passat 80 bhp 1.6 TD, 1992-1993 VW Passat 75 bhp 1.9 TD, 1994-1997 There's a fair variety there but I'm trying to consider several possibilities. My preferred choices would still be the Merc engines. The dimensions of the engine are important in terms of fitting it in a trike frame. Is there a resource on the net that would provide this information? Can anyone advise about the relative simplicity of these c/f complex electronics etc? -
Selling: ebay v autotrader v dealer 12 Apr 2006 (Forum)
For some rather complicated reasons, I will be returning to the UK in a few weeks time to sell a 1 year old Volvo XC90 (2.4d SE right hand drive, exported on purchase and which I will first re-import - it has the full UK guarantees etc). I can only really spare about 4 or 5 working days in London, before needing to return overseas. I have approached several dealers, who have made a few offers. -
Modern Signs Are Rubbish! 19 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The RAC Foundation's Sheila Rainger explained: "There's all the information in the car, high tech devices, and there's also all the information outside the car provided by road signs, traffic lights, speed limits perhaps painted on the road. "There's only so much the brain can take in at any one time and a real danger something really important like a red light could be missed." Signage worry "Very highly-trained people like fighter pilots can manage seven or eight pieces of information coming at them, but for Joe or Juliet Public, it's really only three or four. -

The decision (maybe) ? Small Car 10 Jul 2003 (Forum)
As I've said, we are not car savvy, and this is the best thing for our family to do. Could buy elsewhere and go there for servicing, but am nervous of an import. The dealer has 3 pre-registered cars (2003)now of interest to us A silver metallic T3 - this has remote central locking, a cd player and alloys on top of all the standard stuff (new list £8,546.95 inc 12months tax, mats and £20 fuel) they are asking £7,795 with only 6 months tax A Colour Collection in metallic burgundy - this has the colour spec and a cd player (list inc as above £8,546.95 - no alloys and key op central locking) they are asking £7,295 as above A Colour Collection which has the colour spec and alloys (but on this particular one they have added a cd player at the garage) List without the cd player is £8,746.95 - they are asking £7,760 with cd and six months tax.
