  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1995 1.8 AAM Auto engine hesitation when cold 3 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The car always starts fine and runs well otherwise. There are also no faults recorded on the ECU and the ECU temp sensors (coolant and air) read exactly what the current outside temperatures are. regs Joshs
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 95 1.0 Starting Problems 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Today was the same saga, but I gave up after 10 mins, and tried bump starting behind a land rover. fired first time in about 10 meters! Having read the various threads on this, should I go for coolant temp sensor first? There is a smell of fuel after cranking for a few minutes, so overfuelling could be the problem? Even tried 'Easy Start' - no joy. Ivor moved into a standalone posting
  • Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 00 1.4 lumpy running and cutout on warm-up 4 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Is there any way of reading the fault codes without a diagnostic check. Is it possible that the mixture mapping could be corrupt at a certain coolant temperature and is giving it over enrichment? Any help appreciated. Cheers slt
  • SEAT Altea (2004 - ) - 2004 2.0 FSI (petrol) cooling system problems 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
No steam is visible when looking at the engine, the water appears to be coming from the engine and not the radiator or header tank. The coolant is not showing signs of head gasket failure. The only clue is that when starting the car a gurgle can be heard from the heater matrix in the dash. I am concerned that we are about to embark on funding the dealer replacing the cooling system bit by bit.
  • Vauxhall Omega (1994 - 2003) - 97 2.5V6 - new head gasket - now poor MPG 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Had the HG done, as we were loosing 1/2lt in 300miles or so. No loss of performance, or water in oil, so not certain if this was REAL cause of coolant loss, as it needed 2 further attempts to fix 'other leaks' after the HG! But that's hard to quantify, so ignoring that, really. What we do have is MPG prior to repair of 27ish, now lucky to get 21!!
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - buying e46 330d sport 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
My current car has died (see thirst for coolant on technical) and need a new (to me) car. I have always wanted a 330d (see post over two years old) and am taking this opportunity to get one (03,04 e46 204bhp sport with some spec). Am I mad??
  • Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - (95-99) Multiple problems. 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
First the car judders (vibrates when switched on) , then when you shift to first gear and try to drive the car with the handbrake up the car moves, now the heater dont work and everytime I top up with coolant it doesnt seem to fill the container but I dont see any water leaking from under the car and plus there is also a cranking noise like metal shaking the noise comes and goes but Im worried. I bought the car for £700 and exchanged my vauxhall corsa 1993 k reg with 49,000 mileage.
  • MG MG TF (2002 - 2005) - Just bought one! 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Negotiated a 12 month warranty into the deal as well although hoping not too need it, will give some peace of mind. Will fit a low coolant alarm as well just to be on the safe side - although hoping that hgf will be many miles away. Any other TF owners in the backroom?
  • Seicento update 19 May 2007 (Forum)
I went ahead and had the cambelt changed, including all the other bits that come in the kit - cost me £110.75 all in ( I had a little snigger reading about those Merc service costs ) - is that a good price? He said a pulley was quite worn ( part of the kit so was changed ) - is that normal? Also had coolant changed, just as a precaution. Only real fault so far is that the OS front indicator keeps running fast when I first turn it on, then after a few seconds, it goes back to normal speed - Im assuming a loose connection somewhere?
  • peugeot 406 110 16 May 2007 (Forum)
The gauge usualy rests half way but can swing down quite suddenly then back up again to center.Sometimes it will go down to zero and stay for a few seconds, This can be accompanied by the "engine coolant to hot" warning and the "stop" light flashing on and off I am sure the engine is not over hot as it usualy happens about ten minutes from a cold start but runs for a lot longer with the needle at half way most of the time.
  • audi stalling and oil leak 11 May 2007 (Forum)
Also the oil leak is still present with the smell of burning oil on the exhaust and I now appear to be losing my coolant water. I wondered if anyone could help with my problem. I am tempted in taking it to a dealer but I have been warned about the hourly rate. ouch!
  • Old Charade 12 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The engine still seems quite sweet and doesn't smoke or use any oil in between the 5 year chages!! As a new year treat for the car I'm going to get the coolant, B/fluid and pads, oil, plugs etc changed and; the timing belt. Is there anything else I should consider to prolong the cars life and, could anyone advise me if it's only the belt that needs to be changed or, is there anything else associated with it that needs to be replaced at the same time.
  • Jeep Cherokee 4 litre S reg 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Also, the aircon cooling condensor fan cuts in every few mins even with the aircon switched off. Apart from that, the engine and cooling system are in excellent condition and has had regular coolant change and flush through (both directions) Is there a vehicle body condition monitor or similar on these cars as Jeep wont say (they want to charge a fortune to plug it in to a pc and have a look) Andrew
  • Corsa 1.2 8v running cool 30 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Any advice and tips on the procedure would be welcome. I have changed a timing chain before, but this is the first timing belt. The coolant hasn't been changed before so do I need to flush the system, or is the garden hose sufficient? The car has 80,000 miles on the clock so should I look for anything else to replace while I have all these bits off.

  • Oil Consumption - Volvo V70 2.5 20v 13 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Can anyone offer any advice before I send it into the garage and a possibly long and expensive search for the problem? The car exhibits no other problems that I can see. Coolant levels are stable and the oil does not have signs of emulsifying. It is also usually quite clean. Cheers Mike
  • 306DT no hot air 7 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Is it possible for the matrix to fill with grime, does anyone know the flow path, is it possible for the coolant to just be passing over the top and not through the fins. Removing the entri dash and maxtrix is all I have left to do, but I would rather avoid it. HELPPPPPPP cheers H
  • Extended Warranties 31 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Car not driven any further. Garage removes heads and finds that the whole cooling system is clogged with emulsified oil/coolant. Car needs new radiator, heater matrix, head gaskets, oil cooler, etc, etc - the best part of £2,000. Extended warranty company say they will only accept a claim for the oil cooler, as the rest of the damage was "drive on" and not covered.
  • Rover 414 stalling 3 Oct 2003 (Forum)
My garage have replaced the spark plugs, distributor, rotor arm, ignition coil, engine temperature and coolant temperature sensors. If I can drive on quiet roads, the temparture never gets hot enough to cause the problem. Can someone advise me on what the problem might be (or how I can keep the rest of the traffic off the M25).
  • Diesel Smoking / Additive 8 May 2003 (Forum)
Car runs perfectly though. Am I worringly unnecessarily? P.S. It was the sender that was faulty on my coolant temp problem. Thanks for all your help.
