  Recently I saw an add for a new 143 BHP Seat Leon in an advert from a Euro importer. (Diesel Car Feb 02). Can anyone tell me whether this is a factory fitted chip change, an importer chip change or whether this is a standard car offered in Spain but not here. Also, how different is the injection system design on the 110 (and therefore possibly this 143) to the newer PD systems.

    a) How difficult would this task be, with mating up the engine to secondhand auto gearbox, transmission tunnel shape and and the lever/shift when doing the replacement? b) Does the fact the car is an import increase the insurance premiums.   When I asked if these were included in the sale the dealer explained that the car has Irish plates and had been imported at some point. My mum works at a BMW dealership and they have advised not to touch the car as it is imported? It has Northern Irish plates so this is UK isn't it? They can't seem to explain why I shouldn't buy an Irish import, though it is orginally from a BMW dealer.

  Think I'm about to buy a nearly new Leon TDi 110 from Motorpoint. The rep told me they're euro imports and thats why they dont have an Alarm fitted (the UK dealers fit these apparently) What they do have is a superb titanium effect centre console which I don't think is available in the UK and the car's £2K cheaper than UK dealer price.

  I'm looking at buying an imported 5 door Golf V5 from Trade Sales. They expect a four week wait for delivery and quote around a 3 grand saving on the UK list price. The specification quoted is as per the UK but doesn't have the automatic windscreen wipers (which I can live without), fitted CD / radio unit or alarm (but does have the immobiliser).

  I tried to convince my local dealer to match their offer but he instead started to warn me about the danger of buying import cars. So my questions are: What does full UK specs means? Does an import car with "uk specs" is the same as if it was bought in the UK or is it only a minimum requirement? The dealer was also warning me that some import do not have under sealing depending where they are built!
