  • Peugeot Partner Combi - Peugeot partner 1.6hdi 2015 limp mode 6 May 2021 (Forum)
Mechanic took a sample of fuel, all fine (unfortunately) and tried changing air flow sensor, didn't work so sent it back. Diesel additive tank needs filling with patfluid so he's doing that tomorrow but no idea if that will solve the issue.

  • Audi A4 Avant or VW Golf - Which VAG estate? 25 Aug 2018 (Forum)
So... I will be buying a used car probably 4-5 years old..... 1. A4 Avant vs Golf Estate 2. Petrol vs Diesel of above .... hilly rural roads mostly short journeys, some longer ones now and then, I do less than 10000 a year. Do petrols die before diesels? My current car is still going strong at 136000 and no issues yet!

  • £4500 Budget for Hatchback that will last? 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I also hope that I can get something that is reasonably fuel efficient without being absolutely sluggish? I am aware I might be asking for too much! I am just unsure whether to balance age vs miles on the clock and diesel vs petrol. I have bought some terrible cars in the past and I hope that will end here!

  • Nissan X-Trail - Possible Purchase - Advice 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My questions are: a) Are the diesels really as bad as reported? If so I can't really justify the additional potential cost of getting them fixed versus the savings over petrol. b) Is the petrol fuel economy really around 29mpg?
  • Peugeot 307 sw 2.0 hdi 110 Hp 2002 - Anti pollution and limp mode 29 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Can anyone please help several months ago the unblock diesel filter warning came on followed by anti pollution fault resulting in the car going into 3000 rpm limp mode. I have checked that there is fuel additive still in its tank and also removed the particulate filter and checked it's condition which was quite clean I also have a reciept for this being changed 10000 miles ago.
  • Volvo V70 / Saab 9-5 estate - What estate for under £3k? 19 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Got to be an estate, so that's that. - Hills: I live in a very hilly area, so the torque of a diesel is really useful. But I don't tow anything and only do 10k miles a year (mostly local runs up to 25 miles, and an occasional motorway slog), so maybe the relative fuel economy bonus of a diesel isn't so important.

So, I guess the fuel costs will be a few hundred less per year if I risk a diesel but what are the downsides ? What could I get for 5k ? I tend to use car as workhorse with all kinds of rubbish in the back , so don't fancy leather interiors etc, no ghia specs thanks.

  • any suggestions please 10 Aug 2006 (Forum)
can anyone being really honest, say what car should i try next to use as a eliable taxi, ive had a vauxhall carlton in 1990 it got worn out, changed to the vauxhall omega - gave up with that as it had nearly all sensors replaced, two rebuilt engines, changed to a 1998 2.0 td mondeo, had never ever problems with that too, ie, fuel injectors, glow plugs, and bad shaking through the steering wheel, changed to a 2001 2.0 mondeo tddi , and have experienced more problems than ever, two diesel pumps costing 650.00 each. drop links replaced twice, drivers seat replaced, clutch that took 2 days to fit as the whole subframe had to come out, ongoing air con problems (which are still happening ) bad tyre wear even after paying out for the ford 4 wheel alignment, i could go on but dont want to bore you, i need a good, heavy working diesel, that doesnt need things replacing so frequently, many thanks claire
  • Super mini's i've driven 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
As for the modus i could not decide what i was driving nothing special at all The biggest shock was the Picanto the small engine had plenty of urge it has cheeky looks but a very small boot and the interior is not quite there. Otherwise good One interesting point is on the 90 mile run they all use about the same amount of fuel around 7 quid even the diesel Renault was the same

  • Corsa D 1.3 ecoflex - Engine issue 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
Hi i have a 1.3 diesel 2013 and I’m having a bit of trouble with the engine. First of all once it’s driving for about 10 minutes, sometimes longer/sooner the noise off the engine changes completely. It turns into a more rough noise and when going up the revs there’s like a squeal noise, when this is happening it’s drinks the fuel.. once I turn the engine off the cooling fans will come on for around 5 minutes then power down, took it to a mechanic and he said it was the temperature control sensor and replaced it.
  • N/A - Norway to ban all fossil fuelled cars by 2025. 5 Jun 2016 (Forum)
http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/norway-to-ban-the-sale-of-all-fossil-fuel-based-cars-by-2025-and-replace-with-electric-vehicles-a7065616.html Elon Musk apparently thinks it's a wonderful idea - he tweets. He would say that I guess- he makes electric cars. A bit hypocritical IMHO seeing as Norway is a large oil producer - they will be quite happy to take the oil revenues from their oilfields in the North Sea but ban petrol and diesel fuelled cars from their roads.

  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon - Used car for high mileage commuter 25 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I'm considering looking for a used Saab 9-3 1.9 diesel as my mode of transport for a 600 mile/week commute. Any opinions on the suitability of the car? The main things I'm looking for are good fuel economy, reliability over high miles and be a comfortable motorway cruiser.
  • frod transit 2008 - cranks but won't start 9 Feb 2014 (Forum)
No dtcs.fuel rail pressure was going to high so I put a pressure relief valve on it and suction control valve as well. (Prv wasblown).fuel pressure within tolerance now.there is a good battery and good starter motor on it.tryed crank sensor, ignition switch.all to no avail, oh and fed pump and return into can so rules out diesel running back or taking in air.thinking of sending injectors of to get cbecked now.any help would be greatly appreciated.
