A299-does anyone know what this is? 12 Jul 2004 (Forum)
On the M2/A299 not far from Herne Bay there's a section of dual carriageway which passes through quite a large 'underpass' 100-200m long with cameras and illuminating warning signs (rather like those at a level crossing) at either end of it. Aside from the fact that a small road passes over it, there seems to be no real reason why it's so big and why they didn't just use a bridge for the crossing. -
car hire & points on licence 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
No it's not me! Mr R has been told by his employer that he has been caught by a speed camera (41 in 30mph if it makes a difference) in his company van. They are sending the paperwork to him. If he is to get points on his point-free licence, when will that happen? I'm asking because we have booked car hire abroad for the first week of June. -
Motorists' friend of the week? 20 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Our local rag carries a picture and story of a local Councillor holding up a large paper notice: WARNING POLICE - PERSECUTE BURGLARS NOT MOTORISTS. He is positioned in front of the rear of a police van, obscuring the view of the operator of a camera which is pointed at oncoming traffic. "His 45-minute protest in pouring rain was popular with motorists who sounded their car horns and gave him the thumbs up. Some even stoppped and shook his hand." -
Cloned Number Plates 28 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I've read a few news stories of people being the victims of vehicle cloning criminals (mostly in London - people copying number plates of similar cars to avoid paying the congestion charge). Has anyone been a victim? What can be done to prove your car wasn't where a speed camera says it was??? -
I have a question. Volume 16 13 Oct 2003 (Forum)
It does not need to be motoring related. In fact, in this thread it should not be. No politics No Speeding, speed cameras, traffic calming No arguments or slanging matches Nothing which I think is not following the spirit of the thread. Any of the above will be deleted. If the thread becomes difficult to maintain it will simply be removed. -

Cars on TV 9 May 2003 (Forum)
Just been watching one of the numerous house programmes on TV(Channel 4's Selling Houses) and noticed the camera lingering for rather a long time on the Peugeot 607 driven by the presenter. If you watch Location, Location, Location you'll see them do the same with a Volvo XC90. Not really bothered about a debate about the pros and cons of soft marketing, but it got me thinking once again about the long, chequered relationship between cars and TV. -
V5s 24 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Can I use the tear off strip (the one for the new owner) even if the previous owner hasn't sent his section off? Up until now I was *pleased* I hadn't got the registration doc because of the camera problem. What action should I take? Sending off the log book is clearly the previous owners responsibility. -- These are my own opinions, and not necessarily those of all Toads. -
Licence plates - a new career? 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Have the Government invented a new crimimal career for basic street thug types? Say £10 a set of plates from specificied vehicle or some such? The car park is festooned with cameras, as is Guildford town centre but of course it also requires someone to watch them/give a damn whats happening. -
Look mum, one hand! 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Whenever I watch a tv programme that features a camera inside the car, Deals on Wheels, etc, 90% of the drivers involved seem to spend most of their time with their left hand resting on the gear lever. Apart from the loss of steering control should an emergency arise, it is just plain uncomfortable. -
Another alternator problem 28 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Had a lovely drive in the BX from Lauder to Catterick down the A68 yesterday, the Geodesy politely reminding me that accident blackspots seem to occur wherever there's a speed camera - what a coincidence, eh? Anyway, every few miles the battery light came on, very faintly and the headlamps seemed to get brighter. Then the light would go out and the headlamps would settle back to normal. -
Avoiding a ticket 19 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I say old chaps !! What would be the legal position if one were to recieve a camera speeding ticket whilst one's vehicle were in the custody of a citizen from another country ? Would the authorities pursue the foreign driver ? Could be useful if one's employer has employees from Europe here. -
