  • The MOT Files: Cheap first cars 14 Aug 2012 (News)
All of the cars below can be bought for less than £2000, and we’ve picked cars from 2001, just to keep things comparable. It’s worth remembering, though, that MOT pass rates vary from region to region and are very much dependant on the way the car is maintained and looked after - a car renowed for its unreliability might well pass with flying colours if its owner mollycoddles it and keeps it in a heated, carpeted garage.  See below for a run down of the some common first cars.

  • A Grand Monday: Peugeot 106 XS 31 Oct 2016 (News)
Here’s a little peach for this week’s Grand Monday – and a car that’s only going to go up in value as its numbers dwindle further. The Mk1 Peugeot 106 is already a rare beast, despite the model’s proven longevity. Unlike most small car rivals, 106s seemed, for years, to be immune to natural destruction.

  • Rare Barn Found FIAT Beats Auction Estimate 29 Nov 2005 (News)
Imported in chassis form, the attractive drophead coupe body was thought to have been built by Ranalah of Merton. After the war the car was painted in the livery of a small airline operating out of Blackbushe aerodrome. Then in 1962 it was taken off the road and locked away for 43 years until early this month. Woodworm and dry rot had taken their toll of the door trims and floor, but the rest of the car looked remarkably rust free and represents an excellent winter restoration project for someone with a heated garage.
