Classics enjoy Indian Summer 20 Oct 2008 (News)
Finished in Old English White following a bare metal respray, the interior and hood had been fabricated from the original patterns and the car was described as nbeing mechanically faultless. Of the 100 originally built, around 25 survive with fewer than ten in full running order – arguably this is the finest example of the model you could find anywhere. This rare car seemed good value, selling for £13,000. For followers of more modern classics, the 1970 Triumph Vitesse Mk II Convertible was in exceptional condition following a detailed restoration over the past ten years at a cost exceeding £20,00. -

These engines represent another step towards meeting customer demand in four priority areas: fuel economy, clean combustion, low running noise and outstanding performance. The engines required an aggregate investment of nearly 1 billion. Production capacity will ultimately exceed 1,600,000 engines a year, providing most of the diesel powerplants in the core model lines of each partner. -
Cars Selling Like Mad at Auction Today 1 Nov 2002 (News)
Convertibles are now winter money with a 65k 99T Audi Cabrio 1.8 selling for £9,000; another, but 98S with 67k selling for £8,100; a 15k mile 2001Y Golf 2.0SE cabrio bidding to £9,250; and a 19k mile 2000W Toyota MR2 running out of enthusiasm at £10,150. £24,300 seemed a low bit to me for a 47k 2000X Mercedes S320. A 60,000 mile 98S Nissan QX V6 SE auto was a good, solid buy for someone at £3,900. -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 30-5-2015 30 May 2015 (News)
Should I consider replacing the car? Apart from the turbos, the car has been reliable and inexpensive to run for a large vehicle. MK, via emai l Usually the reason turbos fail again is that the oil supply and return pipes to the turbo bearing have either not been completely cleaned out or not replaced. -

SB, via email The smell is of bacteria growing in condensation in the ducting. So if when you come to the end of a run you switch the a/c and heater to maximum heat output, that should both dry out the condensation and kill the bacteria in the ducting. Of course the other thing you need to do is replace the pollen filter. -

LG, via email If you're buying new, and will use the car for short runs in town or the suburbs, then get the 1.2DIG-T Acenta, not the 1.5DCI: /road-tests/nissan/nissan-qashqai-12-dig-t-2014-road-test// If buying used, Qashqai 1.5DCIs before 2010 did not have diesel particulate filters so don't have the problem of them getting clogged up from repeated short runs from cold. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Vivaro 2001 - 2014 16 Jun 2025 (News)
What to watch Ask if the fuel injectors have ever been replaced, if it’s running roughly or cutting out then have them checked. Check the shift quality of the transmission, if it’s notchy or vague the gear linkages might be worn. It’s a relatively common fault, but an inexpensive fix - costing around £100-£150 to repair. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Toyota Hilux 2004-2015 16 Jun 2025 (News)
From 2012 onwards the Hilux is fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) but they don’t like to sit idling too long and can be expensive to replace or reset. If you’re looking to minimise bills, or are likely to leave the engine running while you’re working elsewhere, look for an earlier, pre-DPF, Hilux. Interior trim doesn’t wear as well as earlier Hilux models, seats in particular aren’t as resistant to wear and tear. -
Used Pick-Up Buying Guide: Ford Ranger 2011-2020 22 Nov 2019 (News)
However, for smoother running, we'd recommend having the oil and filter changed every 12,000 miles or 12 months. A major service will cost in the region of £240, with an interim service being £150. New front brake pads will cost about £140 fitted, while a new clutch will be just shy of £700 - so check it’s not slipping if you’re buying. -
Used Van Buying Guide: Vivaro 2014 - 2019 20 Nov 2019 (News)
In This Guide Vivaro prices What to look out for Vivaro maintenance Vivaro Essentials MoT pass rates Insurance groups Vivaro vans for sale Vauxhall made a big deal about its Vivaro being a British built LCV and that undoubtedly helped it in the sales charts here, it regularly accounting for one in 10 UK van sales during its five-year production run. Introduced in 2014, following its predecessor’s lengthy 13-year production run, the Vivaro might not have presented a radically new look to its customers, but it was significantly re-engineered throughout. As with its rivals Vauxhall offered its Vivaro in panel van, Combi nine-seater minibus version, crew cab and chassis cab choices, with a choice of two lengths (4998mm and 5398mm) and two roof heights. -

Frequently asked questions about your premiums 4 Apr 2013 (News)
All I’ll say is, whatever reservations and bad feeling you have directed toward the Insurance market, just try to be a little more open-minded and consider what’s been written; remember, the Insurance companies aren’t charities, they’re not Government run and they have overheads like anyone else. Your motor insurance isn’t a savings scheme that you’re ‘entitled’ to claim from as ‘you’ve paid enough over the years’ it’s more like a co-operative if anything. -

Bank Holiday ‘Barn Find’ Auction Results 3 May 2010 (News)
With three halls running, Blackbushe was bursting at the seams today. I’ve never seen so many people there. But fortunately the auction centre was well prepared with a gauntlet of guys beckoning drivers into additional parking on the Sunday market, a barbeque outside, and plenty of entertainment. -
Cheap Cars if Bought Right at Auction Today 16 Nov 2007 (News)
It always has been for the past 15 years, so whatever dire predictions there may be about property values falling and runs on banks it’s still a fairly safe bet. Sure they’ll take your money if you offer enough. But right now some fleets are not letting go at rock bottom prices. And why the carparks are full of stock rather than parking spaces. -
A Grand Monday: Rover 114 SLi 13 Feb 2017 (News)
Launched (as the Austin Mini Metro) in 1980, it was a British car 'to beat the world' - and despite its antiquated A-series running gear, it was a more than worthy rival to the likes of the Ford Fiesta and Renault 5 . With Austin-Rover desperate to move away from the utilitarian days of British Leyland, the Metro was progressively improved throughout its life. -
How to buy a used van from a dealer 3 Feb 2017 (News)
Check that your insurance (or the seller’s policy) covers you for a test drive and go for an extended run with the seller. Listen for knocking or squeaks from the axels and look for signs of lean or uneven tracking as this will show the van has been subject to regular overloading or uneven loads. Check the lights, dashboard warning lights and other electrical equipment, as electric window and central locking repairs can be expensive to fix. -

Are future classics a thing of the past? 15 Jun 2016 (News)
A couple of weeks back, I attended the Tatton Park Classic and Sports Car Show in Cheshire – one of the best events in the north of the country, and one which I’ve been going to since it was first run in 1987. Back then, I was nine. This year, I was there with a car built a year after the show opened its doors for the first time. A car that, had it appeared in the car park at any point in the past decade would barely have warranted a second glance.
