Hi all, Having a bit of a situation with my new 850 T5. Bought it a couple of weeks ago, primarily to do some workhorsing when we move house, but also...
  • I've done it this time 25 Nov 2004 (Forum)
OK So in August I sold the Volvo S80 to buy the Trajet for SWMBO. I took over her CR-V but couldn't get comfortable. I want to change it for something I can drive without getting back and neck ache in three minutes. In the meantime in April father buys Subaru Forester, 1999 V with Auto.
  • Catastrophic Brake failure 6 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Three weeks ago I purchased a 1994 460 Volvo from a local independant Volvo dealer. A week or so ago my wife reported a problem with the brakes. They were spongy and occasionally the car travelled forward quickly whilst stationery (in driveits an auto).
  • Suzuki Vitara - Suzuki Vitara Allgrid twitchy at high speed 30 Oct 2023 (Forum)
I found the car steering to be on the light side and feel a bit twitchy after 50mph. My sister used to drove Volvo V40 said steering is lighter than hers. Can someone tell me if it has speed sensitive power steering? can I make it a bit heavier at high speed or I need to adapt to it? My tyres pressure set to 33psi.
  • SUV or estate 2 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hello all, I am currently going round in circles trying to choose my next car. I currently drive a 66 plate Volvo v40 which I love, but the boot space is just too small for our ever growing puppy (vizsla), also the MPG is not great either. My budget is £11,000, the car will mostly be used for commuting to my office during the week (20miles) and weekend drives (50-100 miles) for dog walks in the Scottish countryside.
  • Audi A5 - Fuel economy 2 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Over the last 2000 miles (a mix of Manchester congestion, and motorways) I am averaging 43mpg. 10 years ago I didn’t get that from a Ford Focus 1.6 petrol. On longer journeys I am getting 52mpg - again our Volvo V40 1.6 diesel only we had before used to get about 59-60 on the same trip. How are petrols so economical these days?!
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - Used estate for under £5000 6 Sep 2018 (Forum)
For example BMW 3 series touring 2008 125,000 full service history, £3500 This seems a bargain and I would expect a car like this to go over the 200,000 mile mark easy. I usually go for Volvo's as a rule but open to suggestions here. Needs to be fairly economical probably 40+mpg. I know the key to long life is looking after the car which I always do.  Open to any Make or model, it will be interesting to see what your experiences are
  • Any - Humps and cushions, best way to drive over 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Just had my SLK tracked and it was way out due I suspect to bumps and cushions. Wife's 2008  Volvo V70 had exactly the same problem, humps etc would appear along with potholes to be the culprit so how to do least damage when you can't avoid the things? Service centre doing a roaring trade @ £60 a time, also which cars cope best with humps etc?
  • Hyundai and others - Diesel engine 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I am wondering if, in my usual way, I have taken it to extremes because of my experience with Volvo C30 1.6 diesel. I do at least one decent 60 mile round trip, Inc dual carriageway, every week and once a month a cross the country journey.  Annual mileage on excess of 10000.  It's just that with some cars the diesel is recommended.
  • Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - Replacement of Hybrid Company Car 12 Nov 2017 (Forum)
My monthly lease allowance is approximately £800, unfortuantely not enough for either Volvo XC90 & XC60 hybrids. My two primary requirements being CO2 emissions < 75 (thank-you spreadsheet Phil) and a SUV build (I'm 1.9M tall with a dodgy back so need to step into, not down into the vehicle).
  • n/a - DRL's - another badly thought out idea 8 Oct 2016 (Forum)
It seems quite common for people whose cars have DRLs not to be aware they only show lights to the front. When Volvos introduced 'always on' sidelights it made some kind of sense, what half baked (probably EU) committee thought up the present system (and fails to publicise how it works - nobody reads the car manual, do they?)
  • Tyre repair sealant 3 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Is there a difference in quality between what different manufacturers supply ? e.g Toyota or Volvo. I have been told (by a car salesman who appeared trustworthy) that manufacturers say it improves the time it takes to get moving again.  Obviously if tyre shredded no use.
  • Dealer Performance Enhancement - Insurance 27 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I'm looking to get a dealer installed BHP upgrade on my Volvo so that the warranty etc will still be valid.  This will increase from 150 to 177 BHP but my current insurance company point blank refuses to insure me statimg that it's their policy not to support modifications .
  • SAAB 9-3 Sportwagon - Used car for high mileage commuter 25 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The main things I'm looking for are good fuel economy, reliability over high miles and be a comfortable motorway cruiser. Other main contenders are 1.9tdi skoda octavia or 1.9d Volvo v40. Have a budget up to 5k but would be much happier spending around 3k so am expecting to be buying something which already has a fair few miles on it. Any advice on what to look out for or possible issues with the 9-3 would be great.
  • Audi A5 Sportback - Help me choose a car 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
The cars I have in mine are: Audi A5 Sportback 2l TDI 170 S Line Audi A6 2l S Line Honda Accord i-Dtec Type S Volvo S60 D3 R Design BMW 520d M Sport Will be buying a 2009/2010 in manual. I would like to know peoples real life experiences with these cars and maybe recommend another car. At the moment I'm leaning towards the Audi A5 Sportback.
  • Reliability of larger diesels 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I have noticed that some of the larger  diesels like the  Jag 2.7  Volvo 2.4 D5 and the Audi 3.0 TDI as well BMW 730D   seem to suffer less than some of smaller offerings by the same brands. Are these better engines in general with inherently less faults or I am i talking through my .....
  • Which Merc or BMW is best for a dull driver 24 Mar 2012 (Forum)
What models of Mercs or BMWs (or similar) cars would be able to fit this mould.   How can I get a Volvo while she thinks she’s got a BMW?
  • Which of the three would you buy? 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)
All cars have FSH and are roughly the same price (give or take a couple of hundred) First car is an 06 plate volvo S40 2.0d SE with 75k on the clock Second car is an 06 plate VW Jetta S 1.9d with 105k on the clock.  It had a new clutch and DMF not too long ago Third is an 05 plate Honda civic SE 1.7 cdti with around 90k on the clock I intend to run either car into the ground - so resale doesnt matter much to me.
  • SEAT Exeo ST 2.0 SE CR - Good car or not? 22 Sep 2011 (Forum)
Looking to replace a well respected Volvo V50 2.0D early next year and have narrowed the choice down to two cars - Seat Exeo ST 2.0 143 CR (SE) or one of the new Astra Sports Tourers (1.4 Turbo or 160 bhp diesel). Have lloked at the Seat and its a lovely car to drive and with good road presence.
  • 7 seat estate cars 15 Feb 2010 (Forum)
When we pick up friends I'd like to open up spare seats in the boot. I guess I'm looking for an estate that can have a 7 seat conversion? I know the Volvo V70 has this option and the Merc estates too. Any other options or tips on companies that'll convert other estates? By the way I really don't want an MPV of any sort, I just prefer estates. Thanks, wbuchan
