Ford Fiesta - Coolant leak 1 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Hey all I have a 2009 Ford fiesta (1.25) and a big fat coolant leak. I topped it up (actually above the max line) and the coolant dropped below the minimum line after about 70 miles of driving. I'm just wondering the best way to go about fixing it. -
Volkswagen Golf - 51 VW Golf - Engine Coolant 11 Feb 2019 (Forum)
It's 10 miles on low speed roads If not, I have no knowledge of the coolant currently in there - I know what's in the manual, but not sure if that's what is actually in - is there a safe way to top up to get it to the garage without causing issue (I have never in my life had to add engine coolant, so I am new to all of this). -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.8 advice please about replacing coolant 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My question is if next week I decide to get the coolant renewed by the garage and some point down the line the pump starts to cause problems (or the radiator for that matter), would I need to replace the coolant again and if so would it be much more money ? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1996 diesel - Coolant in passenger footwell 19 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Found a puddle in the passenger footwell of my 306 today, and thought I had a leaky door. After soaking it up, realised it smelt of coolant, and sure enough, opened the reservoir and I've lost several pints. Thinking back to yesterday, I did turn the heater on for a few minutes, and it smelt of coolant. I changed the coolant about 10 months ago and flushed the system, so I've done what I think I should have done maintenance-wise? -
Rectification of coolant leakage 25 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Sometimes I can see wetness, but it is never sufficient to drip onto the garage floor. The car is still under warranty, but I know that coolant leaks at gaskets are often difficult to cure, and I wouldn't want any attempted rectification work to make the leak worse. I imagine that if the coolant had been plain water I wouldn't have spotted the leak, but dried bright pink antifreeze is a dead giveaway. -- L\'escargot by name, but not by nature. -
How long does coolant last? 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The water pump had gone, which took the cambelt, which wrecked the engine, which made the car economically unviable. In her service book, it said that the red coolant was filled for life and concentration checks were done by her dealer at annual services. Which they were. she'd done the lot. The coolant, checked by the AA, was OK at 35% strength, but had no corrosion inhibition left. -
Toyota Carina E (1992 - 1997) - 95 2.0 - loosing coolant. 5 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi I have a Toyota Carina E 2.0 litre and the car is losing coolant at a rate of about 1/4 litre per 100 miles which is a lot. Can anyone suggest why my car is losing so much coolant. The car has already been pressure checked but no leaks were found. Thanks Gregory {subject header amended to give brief details of question being asked} -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 orange coolant renewal - when should I do 8 Aug 2008 (Forum)
In the Ford Focus owner's manual it says after 10 years the orange coolant should be replaced provided the concentration is kept correct (50:50). Does this mean that the corrosion inhibitors in the coolant will still provide adequate protection until 10 years is up or if not would the damage from the corrosion in the cooling system that they talk about be expensive to fix ? -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 06 1.8TDCi Normal to have to top-up coolant twice 10 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I've just been checking the fluid levels in my C-Max and noticed the coolant is down to the minimum mark again. It'll be the second time in a year I've had to do top it up. Is this normal or should I get the dealer to check it out? I thought you only had to top up the coolant reservoir very rarely. -
'99 Focus 2.0 Coolant Loss 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi I have noticed that my coolant has dropped halfway between min and max over the last month, and there appears to be fresh fluid from a pump next to the auxilliary drive belt, just above the A/C compressor pump, is this the water pump? -
Cooling system flushing 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Could anyone please clarify why it's necessary to remove the themostat when flushing engine coolant passages? Does the presence of thermostat (closed) trap coolant in a particular part of the system? I recently drained my Passat's coolant (without removing the thermostat) and although I didn't measure the quantity, it seemed to be somewhat short of the specified amount. -
Water for Coolant 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Happy New Year all. We all know that deionised water is best for use in the coolant mixture of our engines. However, how about using water collected from a dehumidifier? Presumably this water is at least soft (it won't contain any of those hard salts like tap water) and so should be suitable for use in the coolant. -

306 dt coolant concentration 22 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Could anyone out there advise on the recommended coolant concentration for a 96 306dt. I recently asked at a Peugeot garage and was told "about 50%". An answer like that leaves me unconvinced that the person really knew what they were talking about. Thanks in advance. -
Astra coolant loss 31 Dec 2006 (Forum)
my thoughts were dicky 'stat at first but now having checked water level and topped up have thought again. both top and bottom hoses were easy to sqeeze and warm - make the coolant in resevoir move when sqeezed. when filler cap removed there was a certain amount of coolant that re filled it with a hiss after engine had been on but before refill. carpets all dry any pointers? -
Radiator problems on Ford Escort 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
12 months ago, I changed the coolant in my ford escort. In about April, I realised that the coolant level was a bit low, so I topped up with a mixture of antifreeze and water. Since then, the coolant level slowly falls, ie I have to top it up every week or two. -
VW vr6 engine - Knock sensor leaking coolant? 21 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Struggling to find a coolant leak. It's a slow drip, when engine running it's faster. Looks like it may be coming from the knock sensor. Anyone else had this? Do I have to replace the sensor? -
