Peugeot 405 1.9TD 1995 XUD9 TE/L - Should I use original or an equivilent. 8 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I replaced the fuel filter a few months ago after a breakdown, (symptoms of running out of fuel). This fixed the car and that started another problem. difficult starting. I now have to prime the fuel on a regular basis to start. Then again another breakdown, same symptoms, another filter, and away she went. -
Electric cars 21 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Ho will car co's make money in antra of electric cars? Less moving parts = less breakdowns and wear and tear as well as less servicing time in workshops. Will cars become more expensive. It seems to me the entire motoring value chain is facing a tsunami of change as we slowly usher in an era of electrification. -

Auto Focus? 23 May 2001 (Forum)
Is this just early versions? I need an auto for my wife and the Focus seems good value, but is it a wise buy as the car-by-car breakdown says don't buy one! What alternatives are there in this size/class of car? -
Renewal "Silly Season" again! 9 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Every July is the same - house & car insurance, breakdown cover, car service.............. House cover passed OK - same as last year. Car Insurance leapt £60 to £234 - quick comparison & they almost matched the cheapest £180 in the end so OK. -
Fiesta Automatic Problems 17 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Most certainly was the reply ! How come this is not publicised ? More importantly why is it not in Honest John's Car-by-Car Breakdown - Breakdown ! - which I always check before buying any car. Not blaming John but I did a lot of research before buying but never got a hint anywhere. Anyone have a similar problem ? -
Diesel Mondeo 8 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Read the "car by car" breakdown on the mondeo diesel and was worried to see 35 mpg quoted in some instances. How have people found the car generally and economy wise? Friend is thinking of getting one as a company car, the other alternative is a Passat 2.0 s petrol. -
Fiesta Engine 25 Nov 2000 (Forum)
In the Car by Car breakdown it mentions that some Fiesta engines (CVH) need regular cam belt changes whereas others (push rod) do not. How do I know which one my wife's 1995 1100 (one of the last of that shape) has ? -
Glovebox Documents 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Is it a bad idea to keep photocopies of insurance or breakdown documents in the glovebox? If you need to exchange details it would make sense, but it wouldn't be too hot if the car got broken into - what's the best thing to do - documents in the glovebox or not? -
Subaru Legacy Sport Tourer 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Can anyone help regarding differentiating the power of the Boxer engine in these cars. I can see from the car-by-car breakdown that 2006 models have the higher power (163bhp) engine, however what are the differences when looking at the engine etc ? Thanks, Steve -
Honda Servicing 29 May 2003 (Forum)
In HJ's book and car-by-car breakdown, HJ says all Hondas should be serviced by the franchised dealers etc. For 3/4 year old Honda cars is this really necessary? Is the VTEC engine really that technical? I have a good local garage with experienced reliable mechanics who charge £45 an hour. -
new focus 17 Feb 2003 (Forum)
concerned about the car by car breakdown views. these views are of the car 1 to 2 years ago, can i assume the facelift model with be slightly more problem free? anyway with so many about you bound to get more problems, why has it won so many relibility awards? -
Oil costs 24 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Rather than re-use fish fryers' oil, take a leaf from the book of a garage proprietor I knew. He saved oil from customer car servicing, filtered it and used nothing else for his three family cars, one business car and a breakdown truck. He reckoned it was o.k. -
Suggestion for site improvement 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I've found this site very useful since discovering it last year. However, I would find it helpful if the information on the 'Car-by-Car Breakdown' included the date when the information for each car was last updated. Would it be very difficult to do this? Rod. -
Mercedes-Benz A-Class Diesel 06 - AA Breakdown Services 16 Jan 2018 (Forum)
My initial thought was that the alt (and whatever else) drive belt was broken. Then she told me that her breakdown cover had lapsed due to financial circumstances. 200 miles away and b*ggered.. I called the AA and enrolled my daughter post-breakdown and fair play to them, they got there within an hour. -

Anyone have any experience of the volvo s40 circa 2000, good or bad? Looked at car by car breakdown and seems to be that reliability was an issue. Going to look at one in next few days, a 2.0 petrol. -
